Even with warnings (which smokers eventually just switch off in their brains) you get ciggies packed in the most elaborate, golden, embossed, opulent packaging with all the branding tricks in the book. Tobacco companies do this precisely to counter the warnings. I think two simple things, plain packets and out of sight POS, and sales would drop significantly.
I've got a great solution - bar the sale of cigs from everywhere but Liquor Stores, Tobacconists and Pharmacies. Yes Pharmacies - If I have to answer 20 questions from the evil eye anytime I want a pack of sudafed - Imagine how those beeyatches could grill the smokers!

In my mind the real shame is that the government refuse to subsidise nicotine patches. It costs about $30 for 7 days of patches, the same as 2-3 packs of cigarettes a week.
They also refuse to allow patches to be sold in supermarkets and insist they are pharmacy-only. This makes any would-be quitter who runs out of patches only able to go to the chemist to get more which is not always viable.

why do they need to suffer watching these ads?

cause for every 100 ppl who are inconvenienced watching this ad due to the fact they dont want to acknowledge it's the truth... 1 person realizes it's true, and time to quit.
the 1 person quitting is alot more important than ppl not liking what they see on tv!
i dont like alot of shit i see, but that doesnt mean others dont like it.

lol, so no gullable people in the world?, and no not really my dad quit smoking because it was costing money not cause of the health risk, and back to 2nd hand smoking

guliable or not they still made the right decision. guliable and healthy sounds better than stupid/hardheaded, and DEAD.

and not everyone is hardheaded, and i really don't see how my dad is a cheap ass, he wanted to save $30 a week because he dosn't earn much a fortnight

like you said... how do you figure smokers are healthy? you just contradicted yourself. first you say smoking isnt as bad as they say, then you admit smokers arent healthy, now you say your dad is perfectly healthy after 30 yrs of smoking pole... i mean cigarettes

Yes, I dont smoke but I'm forced to change the channel every time one of these stupid ads show on the TV, just like I do when those feminine hygiene ads show as well! Argggh!
