very recently, we locked the keys in my Dad's H3 hummer...the tech who came out couldn't use the long tool because he showed us how the frame was shaped too sharply & deeply...his air bag couldn't get the door out enuf to make a gap. how would a hummer be unlocked???

@lokpikr999 he didn't. we had to work out some help from a dealership almost 40 miles away. it worked out, but we lost a big chunk of that weekend. o well, nobody's fault but mine for locking the keys in there...needless to say, Dad got a pretty good meal out from me after that one. thanx tho, i'll remember that the next time i do it...cheers

For those talking about picking doors open on vehicles, Car locks are usually not pin and tumbler locks, It takes a much more crafted person to pick a car lock without damaging it then a regular lock. Most if not all auto lock smiths will always use this type of method, and usually on the passenger side of the car.

A big thankyou, your tip really was a godsend. My kids locked the keys in the car. My car is a Chevy Metro. It was the frame type door and I was able to pry the door open enough to slip a steel wire rod through. I found it easier to bend a hook on the end. It only took a few tries and presto. Saved me a ton of money instead of calling a locksmith. Again THANKYOU

I'm a locksmith and if a lot of you people don't know, unless you are a locksmith if you are caught with any of these tools and do not have the proper license you will go straight to jail no questions asked because these tools are considered theft tools

totally a lie. i locked my keys in the car at a restaurant and i had bought a slim jim. while i was using it, some people called the cops and three of them showed up (different times) but he told us that as long as it's our car, we have the right to have those items and use them

slim jims are the exception but the other tools you can only get with a license, if you have these other tools with you and you can't show you are a locksmith you will be arrested, at least you are supposed to be, who knows what really happens it depends on the cop

well if you grab the keys from the inside and unlock, you can turn it off easy enough, OR if your keys are ones with a button you press to unlock, just hit that button with your tool, or hook it, bring it closer to you to press with your fingers, if the keys are slim enough (r your fingers for that matter)
