how do you only get the shape like i dnt want no background period not even white so life when i paste it onto another picture in paint only the shape will come up no white square how do you take out the white and only have that shape in the picture?

@CTeves97 you cannot create transparent background with MS paint, because it is unable to handle transparency. Thats why you get white insted.. So you should paste the shape into a new PS project setting up transparent background , paste the shape, save as png.

The pic used could have been cut out better and just as fast with the pen tool - with a little mask soften on her hair.

Refine edge is best for strands and messy stuff, but even then you usually have to got in and tweak it with your wacom pen. At the end of the day a computer doesn't 'know' what you want to achieve visually.

Oh Jeez, how bad is that, than i can't believe you took chunks out with the eraser. There are much better ways to get even a half decent cut and even easier ways to get an exact cut. Go watch some real video's about Photoshop man.

This technique is a waste of time IMO. I hate the extract feature because it offers virtually NO CONTROL over the finer points of an image, especially when you're dealing with something like wavy hair. I would have created a copy of this image, added a layer mask and proceeded to cut out and correct the image using either paths/feathered polygon lasso coupled with the refine edge feature. I do this with all my images and get great results. I'm glad the extract feature is gone from CS4.

First make a selection "rought" then use the button refine edges to extract the subject from the background..

The only way to get some refining in CS5 is trough "Refine selections".

after you cutted a shape, you can copy paste it to a new layer, with transparent background
