  • I would've liked to have seen him play the Phantom. Based on this performance, I think he might've been able to do it.

  • this is awesome except that the phantom is supposed to be seductive he shouldnt make you want to go build a barricade and lead a revolution ;)

  • I think I just died a little inside.

In the good way though. Cause I just found heaven. <3

  • It's so interesting that the voice is from Michael but the picture in this video showing Ramin Karimloo, and more interesting that they were both amazing Enjolras!

  • ::SIGH::

  • OMG he was Enjolras in the 10th Anniversary concert of Les Mis and I fell in love with him then! Fifteen years ago!! Dirschbag you don't know what you are talking about! xx

  • Too strained all over the place, same thing when he played Enjolras. He's got the range of a good 16-year old boy.

  • @Dirschbag Are you kidding? He is an absolutely amazing baritone with remarkable control and timbre

  • @HaraldJoe69 He does have a nice timbre...if he sings a song that's in his compact range. His vowels are ridiculous especially at the end of words like "away" and "day." It gets spread and goes right into his nose. He just sounds shaky most of the time like he's barely hitting the note.

  • @Dirschbag I wouldn't call his range compact' Musical theater has an unfortunate bias against basses and baritones. Almost every lead role is a tenor. He has a pretty good upper range for someone who is clearly a lower baritone/bass. The vowels on 'away' and 'day' are a bit annoying, but that's because he is going on the dipthong too quickly. I will admit that the aflat 'beeeeeee' is a fairly shaky, but that's if we are comparing to it to a tenor like Colm Wilkinson/John Owen Jones/Karimloo

  • @HaraldJoe69 I see your point. I would love to see a lead role that's made for a baritone so he doesn't have to strain for the high notes!

  • @Dirschbag Me too! :D Way too many tenors in musical theater!

  • Love Michael.

    Hate Ramin.

  • @ImJimmbo I AGREE! There's so much fan-girl obsession over Ramin at the moment. Michael is better.

  • I just can't see him as the Phantom, knowing how incredibly attractive he is in real live. I just keep thinking 'take of that mask, you don't need it at all'. Hahaha.

Other than that, his voice is perfect! And, just as everyone else, I think he's the best Enjolras. *sigh*

  • Almost as swoon-worthy as the Michael Crawford original. ;)

In fact, three Michaels have done brilliant renditions of this song: Crawford, Ball, and Maguire.

And yes, he will always be my favorite Enjolras. ;)

  • Nobody sing ENJOLRAS like Michael Maguire. Not to mention he's so cute...

  • My favorite Enjolras!!

  • KYAAAA. *dies*

"Soar" left me speechless. I love Michael, especially as Enjorlas...he did wonderful on this! "Be" was equally powerful. ;3

    Bravo!

  • He was the best looking and most talented Enjorlas (i cant spell it lol)

  • I think it's so cool how like.. mostly every cast member of Les Mis has been in Phantom XD

  • OMG, another Phantastic Phantom I'm hearing for the first time. Is there no end to the cadre of wonderful voices that have done this role? Why on earth did they mess with the part in the POTO movie? Will I ever be able to get that awful Butler out of my head?? I need my brain washed of that nightmare.

  • Where did you get this recording? I love Michael Maguire.

  • @Arielle92B Everything's Coming Up Broadway: Best-Loved Musicals, Vol. 1 I found it on itunes

  • I recently became a fan of Les Mis and Michael Maguire after watching the 10th Anniversary concert with him in it. I love his voice.

  • When was this recorded?

  • F*CK! (falls down in worship)

  • I think my heart stopped for a second at "soar". He has such an amazing voice!

  • This is perfection.

  • great sound fantastic soar!!!

  • Oh, man. Michael Maguire as Javert WOULD be hot. I've seen a lot of posts about people finding the character of Javert attractive, regardless of the actor, but M.M. would be insanely hot in that role, needless to say. I guess it's that whole man-in-uniform thing.

  • Wish he is playing the phantom!!!

  • It looks like his nose is blocked in some way.

  • wow nice soar

  • I actually lived a couple streets down from the McGuire family in Newport News, VA. Michael was a bit older than me. I did however go to high school with his sister Jennifer who is the same age as me. We lived in a very humble part of town, and we all lived rather humble, sometimes poor lives. So glad to see how big Michael made it. I would think Michael is in his early 50s, as I am 47. The whole family was very musically talented!

  • Michael's voice always hits me right here, it's so strong and full of feeling.

  • SOO WONDERFUL!! One of the best "phantoms" im not sure if i would chose gerard butler. but anyway this is soo beauty

anyone who knows how old Michael is today?

  • I LOVE this guy so much...

  • I adore this man, I wish I could meet him, LOL

Well maybe not Id probly do something naughty :P

  • Wow...

  • my goodness I cant believe I wrote that!

    it IS true tho haha!

  • haha i wud too lol :)

    love his voice so much

  • Girl, yes. XD

  • @joeygsmom I have met him, about 3 years ago. He is STILL so delicious. :D

  • @ChangeYourStars23 good to know ;-D

  • This man has an incredible voice. I nearly melt every time he starts singing in 'Look Down.'

'Where are the leaders of the land?

Where are the swells who run this show?'

  • lol same he is amazing!!!!!!!!

  • I love that part too. Actually, I love pretty much any part that he sings.

  • ME TOO!!! <3 Michael Maguire rocks as a singer and as a performer as well.

  • Considering how difficult a song this is, I think he did a respectable job. Yes, he is a baritone.

  • Michael is, I think a Baritone. But i'm not really sure.

  • How does anyone think this is the best interpretation of this song? His A-flat was barely there and the top is so nasal!! His has a pleasant voice, but--man, this is bad. He should stick to more traditional baritone roles and leave things like this to the Anthony Warlows of the world.

  • Here's a thought, instead of slagging of a wonderul perfomer, just sit back and enjoy.

One final note, shadowdog1977, If you can do this any better, please submit a video and let the rest of us be the judges.

  • I'm entitled to my opinion just as all of you are. I just want people to realize that there are better renditions out there, that's all. I think Mr. Maguire is very, very talented, but perhaps Music of the Night is not an appropriate choice for his voice. And yes, I PROMISE to post something of mine in the near future and you may be as positive or negative as you choose.

  • I actually don't like Anthony's version of this song... for the plain and simple fact Michael's vibratto has always been so much purer. There is such a thing as overpassing your vibrattos to the point of annoyance, and I'm sad to say as LOVELY and POWERFUL as Anthony's voice can be, he overpasses quite often. I'm not saying Anthony's voice is bad nor am I saying it's not a glorious instrument. I'm saying it's a personal preference which I am entitled to as much as you are.

  • aww no C# :( still good though

  • possibly one of, if not, the best version of this song i've ever heard..

  • He doesn't belong in a court room, he belongs on stage ... a beautiful man with a beautiful voice.

  • Hmmm the world is indeed an unfair place, such a beautiful man ALSO gifted with a beautiful voice!

    XD

  • He's in law school somewhere in America.I think anyway, there were a few things online which said that.

  • Where is Michael Maguire these days? He would be a great addition to several Bway shows. His entrance as Enjolras in the "One Day More" in the Les Miz 10th Anniv Concert was brilliant !!!

  • Best Broadway actor. Ever. I love, love, love Michael Maguire!

  • is their any audio of him for the phantom of the opera or point of no return? id like to here him some more

  • What I'd give to see him onstage as Phantom or JVJ!

  • Or Javert. Now THAT, my friend, would be hot.

  • AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! I aboustly love Michael Maguire!!! ahhhh! lol

  • Guh. *melts*

This has rendered me unable to make a coherent sound.

    *melts*

  • Micheal Maguire has one of the most loverly voices i have heard.
