Im deaf and never went to either deaf institute or public school in my entire life. I have always gone to a private school called Harvest Christian Academy for the Deaf. They have very good education there. I get honor roll a lot...I am pretty smart, not to brag, you guys could notice, my grammar are very good unlike other most deaf people. @MillingMusic not only..... There is a christian school for the Deaf in... Managua, Nicarauga called "Christian school for the deaf"... Even search it on youtube, if you don't believe me.

Purely nepotism is what I see here. Favoritism too much is what hurt deaf institutes. How embarassing for me to say that I am deaf and I approved the complete shutdown of all deaf institutes.

I do think that there needs to be more counseling in the schools. The transition from a Deaf school to a hearing college would be enough of a shock in itself. Kid's need to be better prepared for what it will really be like. I'm Deaf, but grew up hearing. I was lucky enough to have a good grasp of English before becoming Deaf. Hearing schools are hard-- and VERY different from Deaf schools. I think the schools need to take a stronger hand in the student's life AFTER high school as well as in it

As someone who went to the Arkansas School for the Deaf before leaving for the public schools. I agree so much with everything you said. The state schools for the deaf are a complete joke and offer no education to any of their students. It makes all the people who graduate have to work harder as adults to succeed, if they are not lazy and on SSI already . . . with 2-3 kids and not married.

I totally agree with you. Myself, I do attend a deaf school. I have seen students who are not smart, have recieved high gpa and honor rolls. And I don't really like how teacher give grades to students because it is like they are giving it to them to show how much the teacher like them or not. for example, a teacher gave a student an F because the teacher dislike the student. Seriously. this is giving us bad reputation.

Maybe not everyone is smart, but, like you said, some people have specific skills in some area for ex. Autobody.. and etc.

Deaf school dont mislead students, they have no other choice but to encourage them. Reward them for their own good. Maybe their brain function at a certain level, they need those "extra encouragements" to let them know they CAN. Suing schools wont do any good..

Im from Illinois SD. I see things like that too. But all for a good purpose.

I agree with you. My friend is not smart enough but they went to college like 3 level different.. Any Deaf School shld stop poor on deaf's personal.. Sometime I am not enjoy with Deaf school. I feel I can't make success my dream. I hate Deaf School. When I asked to teacher I want learn to reading, writing, and vocabulary. But I noticed teachers faovrite who students so smart pick them more focus than who low level. It is not fair but I just let them go.

Strongly agree with you, same here in the Philippines. I just hope that there are at least a good company with high salary requirements as well as hearing where lot of the employees are deaf. I am just a CODA and really love to Sign since birth. Strong Deaf advocacy because I can see them through my parents.

I used to attend PEP/MSSD in 1990 and I noticed that MSSD students are very smart! So, not all deaf schools have this similar problem, so don't blame on deaf schools!

This is not the first time I've heard this. Over 25 years ago at Gallaudet, I had this guy who I'd dated for a short time. He'd graduated with Valedictorian honor and he struggled badly with English at Gallaudet. I tried to help him, but he couldn't pass English 50, not even 100 at that time, so he was A.D.'d after his Freshman year. I was very surprised because I'd come from a hearing school with a C average. Seems like teachers don't care anymore.

hey, not just deaf schools have students with learning problems. i go to MSSD and there are plenty of smart students. you cant just blame the deaf schools! sure, some students have problems with english, that's because they are so talented with ASL or their parent dont care about them. so dont blame the school for it.

agrees with you! I just got high school diploma. but couldn't make it to community college, failed the test. My friends didn't get diploma but made it to gallaudet or Swicd or other colleges. weird.

THANK GOD that i am in hearing school! woot...!!! lol. so i am agreed with you that there are something wrong with deaf schools' education system... oh well it is not my problem lol =O hey deaf kids, my suggestion is go to hearing school not deaf school.. trust me.... but it depends on you.. if oyu cant stand with it then go deaf school.. i am just used to being with hearing kids.. i just have no problems with it but feel kinda boring as hell..

HEY, dang it.. im agree with you.. i've attend to missouri school for the deaf in HS im an senior this year, i was surprised, yes i know that they sucked! its not good education, i remmy that my friend was getting SAL in 2007 he have it. It not look really very good for what school had done and it can harmful to a deaf school! that mean School hired wrong ADM and wrong staff also. Our school at Kentucky School for the Deaf had went other kind with terrible time with several different kind of we had went thru, It had over now. so your school will be over with embrassment in the ahead of time :) I still support all deaf school no matter what it is. :)

You right, There are something wrong with Education system in various of Deaf School. I think this most important to have studies hard on Writing English, Reading, Math and science because this is most common for everyone to make flow go easier.
