IMO, this is the epitome of 1990s janet. the song was underappreciated and overshadowed by the inferior "runaway" when it came out, but it's truly a masterpiece, and so is the video. she looks strikingly beautiful and the song is one of her best R&B jams ever, if not the best. lovely. the only thing missing is a dance breakdown, but that wouldn't very well fit with the video would it?

From my understanding she is playing Dorothy Dandridge. This video came out back in 1996, and Janet did the video as a tribute to Dorothy because she wanted to do her autobiography. At the time Janet, Halle, and Whitney were trying to get their Dorothy Dandridge projects off the ground. As we all know Halle beat everyone to the punch.

Actually, this video came out years before Halle Berry played Dorothy. And they didn't "give it to Halle". Halle Berry produced "Introducing Dorothy Dandridge" herself. She even spent close to $200,000 out of her own pocket in order to film a scene that didn't fit into the budget. Janet Jackson is a good musical artist, but she's not a good actress and would never have been able to portray Dorothy even half as great as Halle did.
