its all good- i rebuilt it so theres bound to be impurities inside the motor from the rebuiild alone, and the fact that the air was pretty clean too. now had i been right next to say, a construction site where the air was complete dust, then i would be an idiot lol

those old sachs wankels never really had an air filter, only a cone to keep animals from crawling in.

not even that. all they really had was a piece of matireal that looked like chicken wire to cover it up.

The stock air filer was a white ram tube with a peice of chicken wire so nothing big could get in:P

I had this in my old cat. Loved it even though it was persnickety. Massive torque for the displacement. The normal idle speed is much slower than you have it in the vid. Proper idle sounds like a big truck engine. Can't beat the sound! Thanks for posting.

hahaha ya i know that idle- keep in mind that engine was just put backtogether, and nothing was settled yet, and the carb was definitly not tuned. the vid was taken after it had only run for about a minute. but after it broke in more and the carb was settled, it had that nice low thoaty idle

I bought one of those in 1972 and mounted it in a 1969 BMW motorcycle. My website has the whole story, but no video. Thanks for posting this. I had mine idling much slower, though and it loped like an idling Harley Davidson. Net output was about 36HP.

If I thought I'd be able to license it, I'd try it again with an Aixro XR50.

mate- this was the default engine on many artic cat snowmobiles from around 67 to 71/72. around that time they switched to a smaller 294cc rotary which went till around 74/75

Feel better now? That was a pretty good rant! Even though it made absolutely NO fucking sense! Rotaries didn't make it for a reason...Many actually...One of which being emissions. Who knows, maybe one day they'll find thier way into motorcycles,or hybrids, or something like that. But if you think they are going to take over the market some day soon,You're only kidding yourself!Remember,stereotypes are born from seeds of truth, and a rotary will always put oil down at the track,like it or not.

ya- the future for rotaries is small. quite a few motorcycle companies have/are making rotary bikes- yahmaha & honda attempted it, suzuki released the re5 in 75/76, hurcules, a small german company did in the early 70s/60s,and norton currently builds some. vanveen did also. mazda has a new motor, the 16x, which is supposidly much better on fuel/oil consumption, so maybe with modern technology it can finally start to take over your overcomplicated piston motors, ha. sho me one soiling a track

because in 4 years of being die hard rotary i haven't actually seen that happen. and i can tell you the reason they do- low budget rebuilds, as well as not fully letting the motors come to a uniform operating temp, thus warping the motor in certiain sections, allowing oil to leak. but to be honest, i've never seen it actualy happen, that i can remeber.

Rotaries are being looked into for flying car concepts and shit because of how light they are for the power they put down. I saw some flying car thats being produced that uses 4 rotary engines to lift the vehicle. pretty awesome stuff, but again, ill stick to my RX-7

i noticed the torque it had when you throttled it, impressive it lifted it off the ground. At first it thought it was vibration but i know that these engines have very little vibration.
