I get that, but there's a difference between having a character who is almost entirely a terrible person portrayed as someone to sympathize with and outright bigotry. The former is achieved through storytelling and the latter is pretty much just assholes thinking their opinions are justified somehow.
Maybe the show's end would have been a bit more exciting with Tony being blown to bits though, who knows, haha.
