Yamaha are very good outboards too and I've had a few Yamaha's, Jason's had a very good run with Honda and very happy. I'm running Suzuki at the moment, twin 300HP's
@Reefari twin 300hp's sounds very good=D I am "loyal" to Yamaha because I have grown up with Yamaha and I have worked alot with Yamaha, and there is very little problems with them. I live in a very expensive country (Norway), so I will have to save up if I want my own boat with lots of HP =D
Good luck and Yamaha are definately one of the best, although you do pay a bit more for quality. Boats aren't cheap, and my outboards do use some fuel believe me,
Hard to say, Four stroke outboards should get at least 2 - 3000 hours, and 1000 - 1500 hours out of two strokes. I've almost got 1100 hours up now on my Suzuki's 300 HP's and still running a treat. Make sure you also keep good clean fuel up to your motors and no water, stuff's injectors real quick,
@Reefari Thanks for that 3000 hours? thats heaps, so far its done 420hrs, will keep in mind fishing line etc is the main cause of seal damage and water in the fuel system..anything else that causes water intake?
i found that DI two strokes get better fuel economy at slow speeds than four strokes do. and even at crusing speeds DI two strokes only use .2 - .4 more gallons per hour than four strokes which is almost nothing. and at full throttle i have found that DI two strokes use 1 gallon more per hour than four strokes do but again not a huge difference and you get alot more torque and speed than the four strokes. both are great motor's though. i have both on my boat. main is a DI and kicker is 4 stroke
I've always had 4 strokes, main difference is servicing the oil in the sump versus oil burnt in the fuel, Expensive on Evinrude E-tecs. Two strokes maybe a bit lighter, and faster excelleration, Fuel consumption seems to be very similar,
@Reefari yes i agree the oil can get expensive if you use the boat everyday but mine is only a 115 hp DI two stroke and i go through one gallon of oil for every 100-125 gallons of fuel. However I can tell you that some of the four strokes are very quiet. My DI two stroke has a quiet clicking noise at idle which i think are from the injectors but overall the motor isn't much louder than four strokes. I like my four stroke as a kicker because it sips on fuel and is pretty quiet when trolling.
I'm sure there's not much in it between outboards, but having a auxiliary outboard for trolling is a good idea and save putting a heap of hours up on the Main engine, plus always handy to get home if you ever have a breakdown and it does happen,
2 motors definately better than one, but twice the cost and more service costs. Also great for piece of mind if one breaksdown, at least you can get back safely. We travel some large distances of Mackay, up to 50 nautical miles. And you're right more grunt/torque with two if carrying heavy loads, but not much in it for top speed, probably a big single is faster,
Honda sucks ass, Yamaha is the real deal

@TheAfrobob Heavy four strokes with lack of torque, no thanks

@sangolt88 Fucking monsters that don't even have half as much problems as any other engines.

Thanks for the upload of the Honda.
Just found your videos, like them, subscribed. I'm keen on a Honda to repower my boat, or Evinrude? Not sure yet

Quality outboard, Jason's very happy with his, but most modern motors are pretty reliable now, and come with good warranty's, and all the best.

@Reefari i have a 225 Yamaha 03 outboard, how many hours you reckon you could get out of it regularly serviced and not flogged?

@jonrad5 (4 stroke)

nice vid, great motor love the start up and so i take it that with 2 of them it gives better torque and better acceleration?
