i quite liked these trains...admittedly they're not as comfortable as the old but i use the london underground quite regularly and they're not much different in terms of comfort.inside the overall atmosphere was a lot nicer due to the "open plan" layout, genrally seem brighter than the old 313's on the line i had, also if i'm not mistaken they have air con which is great in the summer especially with the heat we've had...so i personally think that the positves outweigh the negatives.
@hezmeister Yes the Air con is good, and its a smoother ride than the 313s, But one would have hoped for progress on the comfort front and those seats are uncomfortable for longer journeys. Regards
@oggy1953 i do agree with you there with the comfort, maybe just a bit of extra padding would be nice, the new london buses seem to be going the same way, like sitting on plastic/wooden school chairs
@ingravegreen " I am with the Mayor on this one even it meant higher fares as a casual user."
A casual user is someone who doesn't use the service that much. Your contribution would be as small as your travel cost per year compared with a worker (Constant user) who has no choice. Let the price go up and up, eventually it will be cheaper to get a scotter and then watch how london becomes crowded with scotters. Fares have to be linked with income rises otherwise you price people off.
I had the unluck of getting one of these from Barking and those seats make sitting down uncomfortable. I won't be using the Overground once all the trains are replaced. I don't like being on a Human cattle train.
Hate these trains. Got one one from Camden Road yesterday and just before we arrived at Kentish Town West, it broke down (hence the delays). Apparently there was a problem with the pantograph, they had to cancel all the trains both eastbound and westbound, and our train became not in service. Worst of all, we didn't get our money back. Class 313's for the win.
@365520morgy Sorry hear of your trouble. Not a very good advert for London Overground. My oyster card blew out on Tuesday, only had it 5 months, now i have all the hassle of claiming a new one plus the credit lost. Regards..
do u expect to sit down on an underground train ? i reckon u get a seat 50/50 everytime u get on one, also the comfy seat problem, there is a few reasons for this, from my experience on the underground , having comfy seats creates alot of work, cleaning is one,we done certain tests on the dirt on these seats and they would make u think again, having a less comfy seat with less padding , stops dust getting in, also needles, which are found regularly on comfy seats ,
im commissioning these units , ive tested ever one of them, and we done a test survey, and most people only use these for 3-4 stops which is roughly 12 mins , so hence they reason not alot of seats
@tel922001 Fair enough, but if you pay for a tickrt you hope to sit down . If your lucky enough to get one it would be nice if it was comfortable. THAT would be progress.
they should really refurbish the seats and remove the longitudinal seating so the seats can have taller backrests! Or maybe at least make it more like the Class 376s
@Ayman170Turbostar I dont know what the 376s are like, but i am sure London Overground would like to remove all seats so as to cram more passengers on, especialy for the 2012 olympics.
378 005 must be the single most videod unit on the network!! I got some footage the other day of trains being tested on the Dalston end of the East London Line extention. Check out my LIFE BEHIND THE WHEEL video to see.
Everyone has an opinion, and rightly so, but if fares could be lowered one would put up with the uncomfortable trains and get more people off the roads. Oops i can see a new debate starting. Regards
