Pilot error unfortunately, he brought the Helicopter down at too much of a vertical angle too fast causing a vortex ring and no way out of the situation.
My old man worked with the guy who fell out of this helicopter, he was a lucky sod. The remaining prop dug into the ground and lifted the helicopter up enough for him to breath while they made the equipement available to move the craft. He did survive reguardless of what anyone said it was not a fatal accident, all members involved lived.
@canubelieve he came in to fast he needed to get the helicopter to a stall and lower it not come in as a fighter jet and land the wheels and continue moving he did so hitting the ground with the tail rotor and lost the only thing keeping the helicopter from turning with the blades i do agree with you but how the hell did that soldier survive?

Pilot error yes, but not vortex ring. It was clearly a tail-rotor problem, probably struck the ground with it on landing.

Pilot error unfortunately, he brought the Helicopter down at too much of a vertical angle too fast causing a vortex ring and no way out of the situation.

My old man worked with the guy who fell out of this helicopter, he was a lucky sod. The remaining prop dug into the ground and lifted the helicopter up enough for him to breath while they made the equipement available to move the craft. He did survive reguardless of what anyone said it was not a fatal accident, all members involved lived.

The pilot had the nose of the copter way too high on landing, what you don't see off screen is the tail rotor hitting the ground.

@canubelieve he came in to fast he needed to get the helicopter to a stall and lower it not come in as a fighter jet and land the wheels and continue moving he did so hitting the ground with the tail rotor and lost the only thing keeping the helicopter from turning with the blades i do agree with you but how the hell did that soldier survive?
