  • I'm hard-of-hearing. What was the Baker calling out?

  • good thing he wasnt carrying "8 sizzling hot fajitas!"

  • I WONDER IF THE BAKER BAKED ANYTHING ELSE BESIDES HIS CAKES BEFORE HE WOULD DO HIS FALLS?? ;0

  • There's a number 1, also!

  • I always felt sorry for the baker...

  • Eight clocks! I just love the simplicity.

  • It was definitely Henson singing the dessert choruses, but the falling baker was someone else.

  • What does that baker do, slip on a patch of ice, or something? He should be wearing ice grippers. lol

  • Is that a hair left on the 8 in the final shot?

  • I saw this when I was 4 and now I'm 43. Until now I never noticed the baker didn't use his own voice. I never even noticed it was Ernie's, Kermit's, or Jim Henson's voice.

  • Sorry about the duplicate...I didn't know it took several minutes to come up.

  • This brings back lots of memories.

  • This brings back lots of memories!

  • hahaha, this takes me back.

  • That is definitely Henson's voice. Plus, he's listed in that role at IMDb. The actor is Alex Stevens.

  • 8 Ping Pong balls! LOL

  • Try pulling this off these days the PC BS would be all over CTW!

  • 8 puppies!!!!! Love 'em!

  • I hope the baker wasn't cut on the glass....very dangerous.

  • Funny as hell.

  • 8 ping pong balls! wow!

  • How cute was Brian Henson in these.

  • 8 puppies!! whee!!!!!

  • some of that food the Baker annouces sound Yummy!

  • Blocks then clocks! How about locks?

  • I think the baker is Jim Henson, it certainly sounds like him. I know it was funny when he fell down the stairs & always spilled everything all over the place, but still I hope he was ok after that.

  • According to Muppet Wiki, Alex Stevens played the baker, while Jim Henson only did the voice. Just letting you know.

  • It's Henson's voice dubbed in but the man falling is NOT Henson!

  • @mstatz sorry it was Henson

  • @angelgirl7473 It was Henson's voice but it wasn't his body.

  • According to Muppet Wiki

Finally, a baker melodically announced that segment's number of desserts, and fell down a flight of stairs. Jim Henson provided the voice of the baker, while stuntman Alex Stevens played the character on screen.

  • @vidman1976 The voice is Jim Henson's but the stuntman is Alex Stevens.

  • @vidman1976 He's trained to fall in such a way that he doesn't get hurt. You have to go to clown school to learn such things.

  • @vidman1976 The baker's name is Alex Stevens. You can find him on IMDB(dot)com.

He was also the stunt coordinator for the movie Superman!

  • Eight Democratic Senators----- and that's the Song of Eight!!

  • Not many people know this, but there was a lot of broken glass from the fallen raspberry pudding desserts. The baker is actually covered in his own blood by the end of the sketch.

  • lol, omg, that baker is such a clumsy offe, Someone should still shout, "WATCH OUT BAKER!!" When he starts to come down the steps.

  • That's Frank Oz's voice dubbed over. He did all the puppets on SS and his voice was silly anyway.

  • No it's not! It's Jim Henson's voice. Oz didn't do all the voices either. Oz did Bert, Grover and Cookie Monster and Henson did Ernie, Kermit and Guy Smiley.

  • There have been so many people lately who have been leaving comments under this particular video stating the wrong info. about who does the voices of the Baker and other characters. I keep correcting everyone but apparently no one is reading my comments. I've been suspecting lately that people out there are just pulling my leg!

  • lol you are starting to remind me of the baker man, he never gives up. can you send us number 1? plz

  • listening to the baker's voice over and over watching the clips, I've come to the conclusion that the personplaying the baker is none other than Jim Henson himself, only because I know he did the voicefor ernie in sesame street andthe voice is the same. minus me if you want but that's what I think

  • The voice is Henson's but the man falling down is not.

  • I believe the man juggling 3 balls (from Baker #3) is Jim Henson. I think it's likely the baker is Frank Oz.

  • You're right about the man juggling the 3 balls. That is Jim Henson, but the baker is not frank Oz.

  • The baker had the best job in the world.

  • I always wondered what a "raspberry pudding desert" was. I always wanted one. Who makes raspberry pudding?

  • Where in the world do you think raspberry pudding comes from?

  • Watching this takes me back to when I was 7.

  • that baker sounds like kermit the frog

  • That's because it's Jim Henson.

  • The baker sounds like Ernie!

  • The Little Boy shouting "8 ping PONG balls!" is none other than Brian Henson, Jim's son.

  • That dude with the clocks is a Gestapo in hiding, probally argentina!!!

  • You mean "Falling Baker 1-10" segments.

I've actually seen the one for 1.

What I remember is 1 turtle, 1 belly button, and the baker with "1 Wedding Cake"

  • To me it's this.

1 bird, 1 belly button, 1 cow, 1 penny and the baker with 1 wedding cake.

  • Is that first kid Will Smith?

  • I used to love watching that guy falling down the steps when I was little. I haven't changed much I guess..

  • does ANYONE else notice how the kids can never sing the second to last number on the right pitch? they always mess it up!

  • How do you make raspberry pudding?

  • 8 8 8 8 let's sing a song about 8. How many is 8

  • Was that Buck Owens opening the door to "8 Puppies!"?

  • Like the other Baker clips, I remember this fondly. However, the reason I'm watching it now is because of the date today - 8/8/08!

  • Damn, give that baker some Workman's Comp or something!

  • I think the money he would have gotten from Workman's Comp would've been canceled-out from the cost of all those desserts he ruined. :)

  • you must have copied my comment-- I said that on another of the videos...

  • @conradragzoff You'd think someone would be on to him after the previous 7 falls, lol Oddly enough, I actually commented NO workaman's comp for him in another video. He FAILED, lol.

  • Sometimes Jim Henson messes up his baker shirt.

    LOL!

  • Um that's not Jim Henson. It's his voice but that's not him actually doing the free fall down the stairs.

  • Hey, baker, look out out for that first step; it's a lulu!

  • EIGHT RASPBERRY PUDDING DESSERTS...whoop! LOL

  • Thanks for confirming that that is in fact Jim Henson at the end as the baker. I thought, hmmm, that kind sounds a little like Kermit the Frog!

  • When will somebody upload the pinball count song for number 8?

  • Turn it on its side, it becomes INFINITY...

  • these sesame street counting skits used to scare the life out of me when i was two years old ( in 1971 ), especially the falling baker at the end. i have no idea why. i would run away from the tv every time it came on.

  • It's probably because you didn't know that nobody ever really gets hurt in these skits.

  • This is some pretty trippy stuff. This scene here and all scenes like it are perfect examples of how even educational shows like this one can be so trippy, you'd think the show producers were on drugs when they made them.

  • I bet no adult or child could ever count those puppys :-P

  • LOL, I thought that too :-)

  • At the closing shot it looks like there's a small hair on the 8.

  • Did the baker actually break the china, glasses...(etc.)?

  • Looks like it. But it was all staged so I don't think he actually cut himself up with the glass.

  • The baker in the end sounds like the guy who does the voice for Kermit the frog.

  • It is! It is the one and only famous Jim Henson!

  • poor sound levels!

  • I know! I recorded all these segments 21 years ago on an 80's VCR in slow speed WITHOUT cable!

  • mstatz are all the 9 bakers skits available on dvd? in like a sesame street classic collecton

  • No, only one or two are on the Sesame Street: Old School DVD's (vol. 1 & 2).

  • Sad to hear that there are people out there who don't know this stuff....:)

  • WTF is this suppoz to b?!

  • You're not old enough to remember these but a bunch of these films were made between 1969 and 1970. They introduced each number up to 10 and played a film of someone counting a number of sommething there.

  • That's one of the Baker's better spills. :}

  • Eight clocks is not the same as eight o'clock.

  • The man with the clocks must have been busy this past weekend.

  • I doubt he is still alive.

  • Then I guess his time was up.

  • Where Did #7 Go?

  • It got removed because the user who posted it got banned but there's another copy of it on here.

  • LINK PLEASE

  • the clock guy is also the professor who shows shapes in other segments i think

  • The sadist with the puppy cellar should be locked up.

  • I agree they might as well do the same for the Cow, turtles, fish, frogs, cats, and the mice, (but not the crocks those were puppets and the spooky spiders they like dark places.

  • Eight Democratic Ideas!!! OOPS!!!

  • thanks! this brings me back

  • that baker sooooo tried to spill those puddings.

  • AWESOME!!!

  • I just showed this to my 2-year-old son! He laughs histerically at the falling baker, and this was way before his time!

  • raspberry pudding?

  • AWESOME! THANK YOU SO MUCH!

  • I don't think there was a #1 either.

  • 8 ping-pong balls. That was an audition reel from "Captain Kangaroo".

  • you sure about that? that is interesting

  • there was but it's gone; we need another skit for 2 anmd more of those number skits with 0 penguins, etc.

  • please put these up on vintage sesame street

  • I think there's a 2 somewhere around here.

  • I don't think there ever was a #1

  • There was indeed a #1 film in this series, which is weird because by the time #1 sponsored an episode of Sesame Street (mid-80s), the Baker films were being phased out.

  • The only thing I remember about #1, which I only recall seeing ONCE when I was 3 years old (so that would be 33-34 years ago) is that a boy lifted up his shirt and said, "one belly button."

  • The only thing I remember from #1 was the guy with the animals/question mark opened a door and there was 1 cow behind it.

  • I also remember the piggy bank boy only having (and saying calmly) one penny. The baker had 1 wedding cake!

  • all we need ia 1, 2 and 9

  • that was fun and another reason why I love #8. wasn't there a Baker skit with Rowlf the Dog?

  • That's #9.

  • Yes, It was the #9 skit

  • Yeah, Rowlf was in #9 - his head was poking out through a large hole in a wall, and 9 red light bulbs were mounted on the wall in a circle around him. "NINE lights" was Rowlf's line, as the kids counted, each light bulb lit up in turn.

The scene reminded one vaguely of a shooting gallery, with Rowlf's head in the middle!

  • You're my hero, mstatz
