  • Rest in Peace little Suri :(

  • that baby giraffe has more muscle than mee

  • I love giraffes!!!!!!!!:D -3

  • although it's a long way drop at birth to ground, I think it stimulates the baby's body & organs to do their think and Wake-up!!

  • its to cute

  • lol, thats one hell of a way to come into the world! thump. mom coulda squatted down more. thanks, mom. lol

I guess its a good way to get it moving. Just like slpain a baby human when its born.

  • god bless the little giraffe died i think last friday broke her leg and did further damage to the fracture had no choice to put her out

  • It looks like it hurt when it fell

  • Aww yao ming looks adorable

  • ok i got to tell you this! i went to the Cincinnati zoo on a field trip with the 5th grade cause i go to collins lane and i heard from the workers the baby got hurt..poor baby...

  • Trop cute la vie...........

  • That loving bond between mother and baby is so touching to watch!

  • They drop onto hard ground in Africa - the mother does not make a nest - it is likely the slam jolts the baby to gasp and begin breathing - even at birth their bones are resilient and do not shatter. They fall as far onto a hard surface wherever they are born.

  • @BB876 indeed they do! ...I regard your comment as a worthwhile read thanks

  • what comes out after the baby?????? it is all red

  • This brought trears to my eyes.. Too precious! :)

  • awesome

  • ITS A BOY!!

  • ouch to falling on the ground so hard?

do they ever die from birth

  • I can't wait to see Tessa, Kimba, and Zuri when I visit them in the summer! Epp! :)

  • Nice :-)

  • lol i had to watch this a few times to figure out where the head was then i thought it was dead. haha i watched the first part like literally 30 times! i think they have really pretty eyes:D

  • Patrick Star: uhehehehe It's an elephant!

  • Just beautiful seeing something like this come into the world!

  • fuck you seriously change the title to Baby Giraffe Birth-Cincinnati Zoo you fucking assholes

  • wow ! amazing birth moment bit yukky but interestin

  • Absolutely Beautiful. Once I got over the horror of the "birth drop" it actually brought tears to my eyes. What a good little mommy. She is so gentle with her baby. Haven't been to the zoo in years, since my children were little. Plan to go soon to see their newest star.

  • What was that thing that came out after the baby?

  • @ 0:51 he's like, "how do i walk?"

  • I live in Cincinnati and can't wait to take my mom to the zoo for Zoo Babies! It's her Mother's Day present every year. We can't wait to see the giraffe.(:

  • ....ouch

  • I think you should name the baby Blossom since that is what is happening at the zoo!

    Cindy Brumagen

  • Painfullllll

  • Name the baby Girl - G-Raff

  • Name the baby Girl - G-Raff

  • I had to re-watch that painful wet ground slap like four times. I finally watched the rest of the video.

  • People need to understand that without zoos, there would be a fraction of the already minuscule interest in wildlife conservation.

  • It's scary how it dropped on the floor. :X

  • I can't figure out why the birth of giraffes make me laugh.

"Welcome to life! For your first experience, heres a 9ft drop into pain!"

  • Call the Giraffe baby Upende. It is Swahili for Love. Gender doesn't matter in the case of love....

  • @BB876 Upende ...thumbs up!

    thanks for sharing

  • Truly a miracle!

  • name it ellen. after ellen degeneres. because she is a loving, happy, nice, unigue person. that always has fun and loves to dance and make people happy

  • A couple of great song lyrics come to mind:

The Clash: "I wasn't born so much as I fell out..."

Stephen Malkmus of Pavement: "Pardon my birth I just fell out. Origins I can't brag about..."

  • whoa! it kind of looked like the baby didn't make it, the way it just fell out like that-- quite a drop (and a rude awakening!). Really incredible to see up close-- yet so sad that they live in concrete and steel....seems like we could try a bit harder to make their habitat realistic, if we're going to keep them in captivity....

  • @lakeruby7

I'm sure that they usually get to be in an outdoor enclosure. Zoo's usually just have rooms like that for times when the vet and other staff need to be there because it's less dangerous for the zookeepers

  • @lakeruby7 This enclosure is not their only habitat. It has been a while since I've been to the Cincinnati Zoo, but IIRC the large savannah animals have an outdoor area to live in.

  • @lakeruby7 I do so agree with all aspects of your insightful comment ...that drop and the splash is almost heart stopping yet very much a part of the miracle of Giraffe birth

  • she's beautiful! but it's so sad that her first sight is of concrete walls and steel bars.

  • @AnotherWob I was thinking the same thing until I saw that 75% of baby giraffe's are killed by predators. The walls and bars dont seem so bad with those odds.

  • @crushingbasstone ..astute point! ...but it is April and the birthing place could have been prepared outside ...surely these Giraffes have an outdoor environment too ... zoos and zookeepers would be wise to rethink their methods of doing business ...just a thought

  • @gaiagale The giraffes have one of the largest outside areas at the Zoo. Unfortunately it is still cold here in April and too cold for the baby to be outside. So, while it's not the best setting, it was the safest place for the mother to have her baby.

  • @CincinnatiZooTube I did wonder if the cold weather extended that far south in April so I do appreciate, on several levels, the point you have made regarding the temperature of the Giraffes' birthing environment

thank-you for seeing my reply of acknowledgement to another viewers acknowledgement of yet another viewer's insightful comment ...and for making time to reply

...I'm curious more over intrigued with your replies

  • Wonderful! So grateful to have a membership to this zoo, and live only 5 min. away. What will his name be?

  • @jmneuhaus I think they're believe that it might be a girl, and they'll be voting on the name on the zoo's facebook!

  • ahhh how cute, I want one!!!

  • I love giraffes! When I was a child we were at the Washington Zoo when a baby had been born and I have loved them since. Love their faces and those big beautiful eyes!

  • The miracle of new life is so profoundly moving. I wish it could see a natural landscape as its first view of its home. But, yes, it will at least be safe, loved, and nurtured at the zoo. Thanks for sharing this video.

  • tooo cute toooo cute!! I love giraffes!! they are just sooooo amazing!!

  • /watch?v=kLl6nRRzA7c Amazing video about the truth of cruelty happening to animals everywhere, a definite MUST WATCH

  • The umbilical cord must break when the baby falls out?

Interesting how the little "horns" are soft and flat until the baby's been out for a while. I've always wondered how mother giraffes dealt with that potential birthing snag.

  • i was there the day before she gave birth

  • Awww i cant belive Tesa had her baby yesterday. She\he should name him or her Kimba it sounds like a good name

  • i luv giraffes and that baby is tooo cute!!!!

  • How wonderful! I grew up in Cincinnati and so enjoyed visiting the zoo there and feeding the giraffes was always a highlight. Congratulations!!

  • The little baby seems to be looking for something real to sniff and taste, like plants or trees or something. After finding only concrete blocks and steel bars, It seems to look up at Mom and say, "Why are we in jail, Mommy? What did we do wrong?"

  • @benzflix I understand the point you're making, but as a new born calf it does not know anything but the surroundings it is currently in. While it is heart wrenching to see animals behind bars, there is a great silver lining in the guaranteed shelter, food, and health they benefit from while living at the zoo. They have no predators to fear. That being said, the air in Cincinnati is disgusting and nobody benefits from being stuck breathing it.

  • @LiquidEye what a clown comment.

  • So glad I came across this on the NATGEO site. Thank you for the miraculous post! Shel near D.C.
