There are many references in Quran, Hadith, Sira, and other Islamic writings which show the authorization that husbands have to beat disobedient wives. Such disturbing commands are nowhere to be found in the Bible.

@mouzouki in Old Testament there is a lot of brutality towards all, not only women. and it is stated as well that in hierarchy there are animals, on top women, "on their heads" men and then God. In the Bible in Exodus 21:7 man can sell his daughter as a slave and if she wasn't a virgin at her wedding day she was to be stoned to death (22:15).

Practice of beating or honour killing of women is a colonial tradition but many people use it to gain power (same thing Christian Church had been doing)

Old Testament is not less holy than New Testament.I'd been Christian for many years and even i noticed some passages in New Testament that didn't go with the idea of Merciful God. I don't say that Christianity is a bad religion, but neither is Islam, some Muslim scholars do amazing job explaining Qur'an.
