Lets get real. The Spencer Davis Group version was done in a studio. This is a very poorly recorded live version. You can't make a fair comparision given the 2 drastically different recording methods used. I think this version would have been equal or better if they player it exactly the same but in a studio. Note: the drummer in the Spencer Davis Group Shits. You can walk into any lounge that has a band and hear a better drummer. {:-)
Nobody could replace the imcomparable Steve Winwood on this song. But having stated the obvious, this is a credible rendition. Bear in mind that it's live, too, so cut Spencer Davis some slack on that because a lot of better-known groups sound worse than this when performing live.
@AlisoViejoMan No: I agree vocal isweak & the video sound is all bubbly & really messing with THIS guys superior organ tone but THIS organist is EASILY as good as Winwood & had Spencer let him sing it , you would be picking you jaw up off the floor . Okay a friend of mine (IMO the best rock keyboardist in the world) held this position for awhile & HE even said "I'm no Mike Finnegan". If you hear him singing Born Under a Bad Sign with Crosby Stills & Nash you'll agree he should have sang THIS.
when you are washed up, had too many beers or blow, and in need of money, well, what do you do?......"Oh shit, let's get the "band" back together! We'll make shitloads of money!" Well, at least that's what these blokes were hoping, BUT it didn't work, and neither did this bugged up version! Pure cow dung!!!!!!!!!!
E is a VERY bad key for this....He doesn't have the higher range Steve does.. It's funny that a co writer of a song has to change the key to perform it like LOL
Good morning, do you like sixties? Listen and pod cast my program " great sound of 60' s " on the site plumfm. Greeting and made blooper in rock and roll.
Salut, vous aimez les sixties ? Ecoutez et podcatez mon émission "le super son des sixties" sur plum fm. Salut et faites gaffe au rock'n roll.
Why do artists who had something to do with a classic song many moons ago think they can keep recreating the sound when they should just let the blooming thing lie. Truly awful
Let's face it, it's not easy replacing someone of Winwood's calibre. It would be like the Beatles trying to get a substitute ofr McCartney. Davis does ok considering it's an uphill battle without Stevie along for the ride.
I wished I had two more hands to give this four thumbs down. Steve had soul and flavor, this song is nothing with out him, and that bass in the very beginning makes the whole song worth while and it sucked terribly in this one.
I recorded it back in the days when they would simalcast the audio on an FM station to go with the video on TV. That's why the sound is a little off. I agree, this isn't a great version, but it's all I have of Spencer.

Not as good as the original because:
a) it's too slow
b) it sounds better with organ.
Still a cracking rendition though.

Wow! Spencer...that's a convincing vocal performance. Ofcourse not as good as the original. but almost the real thing.
Like Stevie,Spencer Davis is a(not as well known) legend himself.

Yeah.... Steve Winwood made this song work. You don't realise how badass he is until you hear this without him. The band is still awesome, though.
