she's not apologizing to him at all she explaining something to herself. you're missing the point. She's finding herself in this horrible memory and it helps he get control back.
that she develops a friendship with him later and the relationship between roger and holly that was a real problem.
She's apologizing because she made one mistake and the ramfications and how it affected her for a very long time. A woman should never apologize for trusting a person, Jeffrey was just as guilty and he realizes it now. If his past was revealed when he first came to Springfield, people would have treated him like the Town Pariah.
I never taught Olivia was apologizing for being raped but realizing that had had she don't things different it might have not happened. I never saw this scene as an apology to Jeffery just her coming to terms with the rape.
i don't really see olivia as apologizing to jeffrey...i think she's just lamenting what was...all of it, from her sad & abusive relationship with her mother, to the desperate need she felt as a teenager to be loved and feel empowered, to the reckless and heartbreaking course her life took that followed...
WTH? Who wrote this scene, that dialogue? O's words are good for a bff or a therapist, or even the mirror, but the rapist himself? And a hug..from the rapist. ::Scratches head:: something isn't right.
That was Another Great Performance by CC, she got across O's regret and pain, but Jeffery's presence was like being drenched in cold water. I'm gonna justify O's words to myself by saying that once O started talking, Jeffery was inconsequential, she was just venting to herself.
... but at the same time I think her guilt about this is where her hardness comes from in the first place. It's why she won't let herself be vulnerable and has to be in control of everything and everyone in her life. It's why she sets herself up for failure so that no one else can cause it for her. It's why she gets into these toxic and mostly onesided relationships. It wasn't just the rape, but how her mother made her feel after that created this mentality and unltimately this scene.
I get where everyone is coming from with being upset with Olivia blaming herself. I'm there with you in my feelings about how vile the act of rape is, but I think that it's so true to character for Olivia. This internalized guilt and insecurity is an integral part of who she is because of the rape and all of her experiences afterwards. It makes complete sense that she would react this way to me. I would have liked to see more anger towards Jeffrey...
While Crystal's performance in this scene is stellar, I can't help but feel nauseated while watching it. This a rape apologist storyline, with Victim Blaming 101 trope. If I were a viewer when this scene aired I likely would have shut GL out for good.
This really pisses me off!! Why in the hell is she apologizing to the rapist ? This is part of a disturbing trend on soaps of trying to normalize the rapist and downplay the brutality of rape itself. GH had Luke and Laura, Roger Thorpe and Holly on GL, etc. WTF!!
I love CC and her performance was brilliant as usual but I'm really fed up with the writers trivializing violence against women!!
damn it! don't u touch her!! GRRRRRR
