I don't mind seeing a few ads to pay for the service but I think tying them to particular peoples tweets and paying them is a bad idea. Youtube partnerships work because videos are fairly low volume and a few junk ones will ruin a partners channel.

Twitter is higher volume and more like email. We don't need to give people encouragement to post tweet spam.

I hate the whole concept of twitter. If we're not careful we're all going to end up as drones constantly staring at a screen believing people we have no idea about are our friends. From what I know of it most of it is self promotion anyway, so ads will just add to the put off for me. I want depth not trivia and sales.

Sure, I know some people who love it. I was pressured to join by someone who did, told it would be very helpful to me, but after an investigation decided it really wasn't my cup of tea, but I can't speak for everyone. I do know that addictive nature of this online thing though, and something like that seems to hook right into it.

i wonder how the twitter ads would appear on the various services. obviously they couldn't justify sending random text messages to people (unless there was an option to turn that off). Would the ads only appear on browsers or mobile apps? It's probably not going to change the twit experience much.

There are a lot of twits out there aren't there. Oh, I meant twitters. Twitter is for people who haven't got a lot to say. "Public Texting" is what I call it. The ad program does sound awful familiar. YouTube is kicking itself now: all we had to do is host a few lousy word, instead of a gigabyte of video to sell ads???!!!

Well my hand was forced. Spending too much time online socializing was costing me a lot money since it was taking away from my work time. Plus, my savings got mostly wiped out by the stock market crash so it is almost all work and no play for a while.

I don't like it at all. Am I going to get random tweets about new CDs and movies and stuff? Or are they going to imbed something in short tweets (way less than 140 characters). I believe that Twitter should be making money/profit, but I don't think this is the way to do it, IMHO.

Hello,Heidi. I tweet on Twitter. If the ads are on the border,or off the center where the actual tweet is,I have no problem with it. However,if an ad is a hyperlink,at the end of a tweet,this is a bit much. I would be most annoyed,if they take the method of BlogTV,with a LOUD advertisement being displayed before one can enter the BlogTV chat.

To really combat this,a person can go tohis profile,and choose Antarctica as ther "home".
