  • I bet if the audio didn't stink the song would be even more beautiful

  • i'd tap dat

  • Beautiful! And your dresses are gorgeous as well, where do u get all of your costumes?

  • Soprano is to much into into the mic.... she takes away from the song.

  • @babyboy1490 this is barbershop

    soprano 1- tenor

    soprano 2- lead

    alto 1- baritone (bari)

    alto 2- bass

  • That's not the lead... It's the tenor, and it's a tenor solo. Beautifully done.

I can't wait to see you girls in Houston this fall. It's my last YWIH contest ever (I'm 25).

I met you guys with my former group Fourmata (Nashville '09), but I'll be there with my new quartet Afterglow, this year.

  • Oh, my God! I'm out here feeling melancholy and the lyric, pacing and sentiment could drive a man to tears. You girls are my balm for pains gone by. I love you, all.

  • The lead is too overpowering. She should back off just a tad and blend a little better with the other girls.

  • Ok, everyone needs to check out the new version of this done by LoveNotes. The blend is way better!!! Check it out!

  • AMAZING!

  • Amazing Video!!! I <3 acapella and this is an incredible example of it!

  • There is a large amount of scooping and the balance is poor. Sorry for the bluntness but I have studied music for a long time and would be offended if someone took it easy on me. Good job on the inner voices.

  • the soprano is way overpowering.

  • they are good, but the whole hand moving annoys the hell out of me. Plus the mic could have been better.

  • They are so hot...

  • nice gowns!

  • So pretty I'm only 11 looking up Quartets... SHAME ON ME

  • the lead is obnoxiously loud. but other than that it sounds good. good solid harmonies.

  • @TechieActress The tenor of UnderAge (now LoveNotes) has the melody.

  • the soprano sounds like a dying sheep and it wayyy to close to the mic.

  • I sang this in women's enemble!!!

  • Super video, song and harmony. Enjoy!

  • Poor audio good performance. maybe a better microphone would have helped. It sounds too close. maybe a non directional that would pick up the room reverb would have helped.

  • ahh the new celtic woman.. great job girls!

  • The soprano is very loud, nasaly, and she scoops her notes a lot. And she doesnt blend at all.

  • @sparklesandhairdye Its a barbershop quartet dude its supposed to sound like that

  • @johnrobert2 I've been in plenty "barbershop quartets" (even though, when it's girls, it's a sweet adeline) and they are all supposed to blend together, not drown out the other ones. but, it also doesnt matter, it was just my opinion. (although, she really does scoop her notes... a lot.)

  • @sparklesandhairdye Yah I wasn't trying to be offensive. Yah she does...its just a style thing

  • @johnrobert2 Scooping of one part doesn't blend very well. Isn't barbershop all about blending? Just saying...

  • @sparklesandhairdye She's the tenor, not the soprano.

  • it's just great!

  • I'm rather certain I just had an eargasm...

  • @maddiecorynne If it's so horrible, why did you listen to it 50 times? And it's not the lead, it's the tenor that has the melody and she's loud because of the way the mic picked up her voice, not because she always sings loud. If you were listening to them in person, it would be more balanced

  • @maddiecorynne So, like, Oh my GOD, like, my highschool choir is like, a gagillion times better than this. Are you kidding me? Get a life. Judging by the applause, you're an idiot.

Nice job girls. Heartfelt and the stylistic gliss (not scoops) were right on the money. When you can be stylistic like that and still stay in tune, it's not scooping.

Maybe one day you'll be as good as maddiecorynne's "select" high school chorus. lmao!!

  • you all are wonderful, which is why this sounds so awesome! but the two who stood out to me are the melody and the low part. loved it:)

  • Horrible distortion

  • damn!

  • god I love this song, and you've performed it wonderfully! Thank you for sharing! :)

  • this is sung b-e-a-utifully!!!!! Kudos to the alto for hitting those low notes. the voices fit together and I love it!! I wish some girls in my choir would do this.

  • little soprano needs to move back a tad, the voices would blend so much better

  • The whole thing is incredible, and especially the low note at 0:28. So beautiful!

  • Brilliant Harmony, however next time get a better mic.

  • Should have used a SHURE SM57.

  • Does anybody know where i can download the PDF file of the sheet music for this song? I have been searching for hours and I can't find anything!

  • The lead and tenor should not be so close to the mic. If they have to be so near then the baritone and bass should carry themselves more. Other than that, quite nice

  • @darrensux333 shud b th soprano (girl with blonde hair) she over powers th otha gurls. beautiful tune thou.

  • @darrensux333 I agree to a certain extent. It appears, however, that the baritone and bass (especially the baritone) tends to get lost in the chord, whether it's UnderAge Quartet or Max Q

  • there's only one soprano??

the soprano was off at times and way too loud and scooped alot which ruined evrything but the altos were great

  • @maddiecorynne From your comment it is obvious you are not familiar with the barbershop "cone" These girls are the best of the best, and I will stand by them and their performance!

  • Incredible!

  • It's the King's Singers arrangement

  • Absolutely beautiful! ...no wonder why you ladies are the International Champions. What arrangement is this? I would love to sing this with my women's ensemble. Thanks for sharing this wonderful music with everyone.

  • Im sorry but...Jesus Fucking Christ this is amazing....i was blown away when i heard this WELL DONE

  • @blackflag4 You must have low standards. This is so distorted it's hard to listen to, not to mention poor projection by the low end and off time by the soprano

  • this was really well done. besides the soprano lead. the slides killed it, and the vowels did NOT match with the others, whose were near perfect. so, besides the soprano trying to be a superstar, it was pretty beast.

  • My soundcard F*CKS this song up, its crunching -.-*

  • It's not you, it's the recording.

  • The tenor was too close to the mic. You can't really hear the bari, bass, or lead. Very beautiful but they need to get an actual barbershop mic so they can move around and stand next to each other not in front of each other. Or get an ambient mic. I just came from a barbershop quartet workshop and they had an ambient mic which made it a whole lot easier to listen to and enjoy.

  • I think the balance is spot on. For this song it is appropriate to sing it in the fashion of a solo. Normally that style is limited to songs where the background parts "oooh", "dm dm", etc, but in this case, it makes sense to make the lead part predominant regardless.

  • beautiful

  • Note to quartets: lead NEVER sings into the mic, because it's the ONLY thing you can hear. Put the baritone and bass closest to the mic, and let the lead and tenor carry themselves. Or better yet, ambient mic.

  • The person singing the lead part in this video is the tenor of the quartet :)

  • There's nothing wrong with the balance. I can hear all four parts distinctly. The lead is predominant, but that is appropriate for a piece like this with such a strong melody focus.

  • WOW! yea thats all i can say...made me cry....hit the heart w/full force!

  • WOW... That is all i can say... To tell you the truth it made me cry... It was truly that BEAUTIFUL!

  • this is my favorite song ever, and this is a beautiful rendition of it :)

  • I am so glad to hear this arrangement again...we sang it in my high school jazz choir. I love all of the resolutions in this piece. Gorgeous.

  • this is just beautiful. the soprano is ANYTHING but annoying and the low notes are amazing. and everything in between is perfect, as usual in your videos.

  • i rly liked this, but the soprano might wanna learn some control. i mean, her beatiful, but this is a GROUP. and to the guy talkin bout 'leave this for the men'. pshaw. my school choir could blow a buncha guys outta the water. pshaw.

  • Your words are pretty harsh, jcga30346, considering these girls were only 14 years old at the time this video was made.

  • WTF ARE U TALKING ABOUT??? This is amazing! Apparently you have no taste in music!

  • perhaps it is the recording that is throwing you or your ears are full of wax. trust me, this is fabulous. I heard these ladies sing this live, there wasnt a dry eye in the house. this is a barbershop young women's first place medalist quartet.

  • wow, they're really good. the recording quality is bad though.

  • The quality of the recording was bad, but the group sang the song beautifully!

  • very exaggerated.

  • The low woman is absolutely astounding, I can't even believe her talent. I wish they would have kept her/she'd stayed in the LoveNotes

  • Is this the SSAA Kirby Shaw arrangement? It's not actually bbshop, right?

but either way, you perform it beautifly! :D

  • well, it's not a solo song, I think the 1st soprano should have been just a tidge quieter, especially sharing 1 microphone. It would've blended much better, but, other than that good.

  • there is no first soprano in barbershop...it's tenor, lead, baritone, bass

  • i should be shot in the head. I'm sure nobody knew WHAT on earth I was talking about. good 1

  • Too much scooping. Hit the note clearly ladies.

  • The alto's pretty damn good. I'm not sure I like the way all the notes swell... Makes me feel a bit seasick. Still, they're young and I'm sure they'll be cracking singers once their voices are done maturing, 4 stars.

  • wow...this is better than my choir at my school...well i was kinda crying when i sang it lol.....plz add me as a friend! Anyone!!!

  • This is even better than what the jazz choir did at my school!

  • I going absolutely crazy or do they all sing kinda sharp? I mean, they stay together, which is pretty much awesome, but if I restart the video, it's like WOAH they all started way flatter than they finished. Unless there was a key change in there that I missed. Ahaha. But it really seems like they slowly wander up...I listen to the first 47 seconds and then restart it, and its like "Huh? A quartertone off...?"

Is it just me? Am I nuts? Anybody out there agree?

  • Unfortunately I totally agree..

  • oh wow... i'm not that great at singing, i noticed it. i'm a little crushed now.

  • I can hear it too...I thought I was loosing it :P

  • oh. wow. yeah. ouch.

  • Yeah - the sweet adelines all sing a bit sharp - well, not exactly sharp but certainly at the top of the note. It's part of the style.

  • I'll take it as opposed to being flat.

  • I think it happens just after the first phrase, like within the first 10-15 seconds. Perhaps they started slightly lower than they should.

  • wow amazig , really , but the Soprano I ... wel she sang it wonderfull , but i wouldn't let her sing so near from the mirco , she has a loud voice without mirco , i'm sure . I would like it more if i could hear the other one more. But its really fantastic :)

  • jesus. that lead can belt! <3

  • Brilliant! I just wish I had a recording with a quality that does it justice...

  • To hear CD-quality of this song, click on creator 'atenshonisgood', then click on the 'website' on the left-hand part of your screen, then click on And So It Goes on the MySpace page

  • @atenshonisgood

I just did...if they're going to have the soprano overpower the other girls, she should at least be in tune. Lots of scooping paired with flatness in certain bits. The other 3 girls are great though! And all 4 of them have great control! I just wish it was mixed better...and the soprano 1 wasn't so damn flat...

  • Check out the new version of this song that was recently uploaded. This quartet is now called LoveNotes Quartet. It's a much better recording

  • @lordxofxfaerie This is a barbershop quartet, there is no soprano. There is a tenor, lead, baritone and bass. In this particular arrangement, the tenor has the melody instead of the lead. I am not sure what you are hearing but the tenor is not flat. She has a beautiful voice. Perhaps it is the quality being on Youtube that you are hearing. I was actually at this performance when these ladies sang this and it was awesome, you could have heard a pin drop and there wasnt a dry eye in the house.

  • This is a beautiful cover. Wonderful colour added, I think this piece should be done with small numbers because you can hear the colours. Many choirs fail to colour in the beautiful lyrics and harmony.

  • you cant often find other people singing billy joel well, but they were magnificent

  • i think the crescendos are what make it so wonderful :) but thats okay. the quality isn't good so im sure it would have worked if any of us heard them live :) great job by the way

    ss

  • I love it, but the only thing I don't like is the (unnecessary creshendos and decrechendos (spelling).... it makes it sound wierd.

  • crescendo.. and diminuendo :)

    xx

  • I love how they exit off the stage :) they like lift their arms slightly and turn :) made me laugh. great job :) bad sound quality...eh, but everybody's critic :]

  • Power to the Alto 2!

    Alto II for Life

  • OUTSTANDING

  • so beautiful

  • It's not a song that lends itself readily to showcase the vocal talents of a Sweet Adelines group, although the arrangement and the performance are beautiful. It has one basic chordal progression throughout the song, and there's no transitions or inversions to showcase their talents. And this group is highly talented, so sadly this arrangement doesn't do them justice. And the recording was horribly overmodulated which just made it harder to listen to.

But we get the idea. Good stuff.

  • it's beautiful, except for the microphone being WAY to close to the singers, wich too often gives clashing overdriving sounds. Also, watch for the tonality pitching up with time. I'd say perfect though to this wonderful performance

  • this is a lovely version of And So It Goes - I can't believe the negativity on this site - it just baffles me.

  • To clear things up this is a woman's barbershop quartet. They are the 2005 Young Woman's International Champions for Sweet Adeline's organization. This Arrangement is NOT a barbershop arrangement so it is suppose to be a lead solo arrangement sung by the Tenor. Hope this clears things up.

  • Beautiful! I'd write for your group anytime!

  • One of my favourite piece. the lead is pushing a bit too tho I agree. They have great voice but sounds like she is pushing her voice. It could just be the audio of the video tho i guess

  • the lead is pushing way to much

  • i agree but its very good because the others are like background music unless theyre a beauty shop quartet (male-barber female-beauty)

  • The official name for a female barbershop quartet would be Sweet Adeline.

  • i thought it was a beautyshop quartet. thats what ive heard anyways...

  • The singing is nice. The problem isn't with the voices, it is that the record level is too high. That causes distortion on the forte sections. The recording doesn't do justice to the beautiful performance.

  • The lead is over doing it.

    The rest sounds good

  • i totally agree with you.. we sang this song in our choir and its my fav... and she just killed it

  • And I completely disagree with you. In this case, this song was written for one person to sing, and the rest of the girls are supposed to be instrumental. Yes, the recording itself is shoddy, but even with this problem, the clarity and tone is perfection. again, the lead is the lead in this song, because she is the vocals in the song (throughout) not an instrument as the others are supposed to be "copying"

  • yes but theyre singing it in a beauty shop quartet form the sound should be equal.

  • hmm I guess I just felt that because it WAS a song that was written to have a lead... that it was performed perfectly. Also, the way they are standing shows that they wanted to portray a lead... shes standing in front... not in a line equal to the other girls. (plus, the mic doesn't help... and I'm sure the quality of video makes it sound worse)

  • hmm you have a point. it sounds good like this too. theres like a vibrating sound when it gets loud.

oh yeah i didnt notice that before but she is standing a bit more forward then they are

  • Search: Luther College Undeclared Falling Rain. Guy that tagged it was silly so it has not nearly enough videos... they're soooo good... watch... go to luther! one if not thee best vocal music program in the country. Nordic Choir is considered top three w/ st. olaf and concordia. symphony kicks ass. Go there!

  • Love that soprano's voice...cute too!

  • Very nice...I think male groups and female groups have their own special qualities, I'm suckers for both. The lead is standing a bit close to the mic, but it detracts little from the beauty of the arrangement.

  • did anybody else notice that they ended higher than they started? hmm...

  • Nerves and anxiety usually cause groups to go sharp, but I think they stayed pretty consistent.

  • in the middle of the song there is a key change which normally cause the key do go higher.

  • And you think the key change is where? Cause I can't hear one. They start in D and and in E, which I think is due to drifting sharp rather than a key change. However, drifting sharp is much nicer on the ear than drifting flat.

  • TristanCook is right. Lead is just a bit too loud and overpowers the Harmony. IT is suppose to be 4 part harmony.

, not Lead & 3 backup singers. But it was beautifully sung,

with great video angles & Production value. Where was this

2005 Int. Young Women Harmony Event held?

  • The contest was in South Carolina, but this video was taken in Detroit at the Sweet Adelines International Contest the October after they won

  • Dude. I'm in a quartet right now, and the lead is SUPOST to be the loudest, then base is supost to follow up right behind it. So techicniquly they did fairly well, except the base should have been louder.

  • I think they are great! The lead has a solo so she is suppose to stand out ...and I love her voice!

  • yeah the lead totally needs to quiet down, but it's still beautiful

  • The lead needs to be standing behind the others... the melody will carry through, and a better balance would be created...

Some of her sound would be absorbed by the bodies, and the the remaining voices would be picked up by the mic better.

  • i think this is the best one they've done, i really wish they would back away from the mic. i don't even mind the suprano so much louder, i think it makes sense because she's the main melody. i really like the way it sounds country and the girl version of this song. :) just wish it wouldn't be such a strain on the speakers.

  • yea nothing is better than male barbershop. and its not the volume of the lead singer, its where she stands in comparison to the mic

  • not quitet the same as a male barbershope quartet....but still pretty good

  • the leads voice is to country in some parts and to loud i know she has the melody but she needs to back off a little

  • really good but you can only hear one ...the blond ....shes to loud :D but gooood

  • This is absolutely gorgeous. I have always dreamed of being in a women's barbershop, so I am very jealous. This is gorgious.

  • The lead is much to overpowering. But whoever had the lowest part was brilliant.

I like the TTBB version of this song better. SATB and especially SSAA lack the emotion needed to make this song truly wonderful.

    Just my thoughts.

  • Agreed. The lead does need to come out, but yes, too overpowering. I have been singing barbershop since a young age. Other than the slight overpower, they sound very good!

  • To clear everything up;

    This is womens barbershop.

    or "sweet adelines"

    the parts are as follows:

    tenor

    lead

    baritone

    bass

i have been a sweet adeline for fourteen years now.

  • on the cd recording, the lead is a lot less overpowering. :]

  • thats pretty good however i believe the leed is overpowering, if anything she should be the farthest away because he voice is the loudest, either quiet down to balance-or step away from the mic. man does it sound different than an satb choir, of course in my school choir i'm the only guy who can hit the low, i think its a d at the very end at least in the arangement we had

  • Yes they have produced 2 CD"s. 1 is till available and has this song on it. If you want contact info I can give it to you.

  • thats so nice do they have a cd or anything?

  • I think its diffucult to judge the blend when there's a single mic sitting in front of the lead. Hearing it live and unamplified might reveal a better balance.

  • a voice just stands out too much and it kind of ruins the rest.

if that voice is lowered, it would sound a thousand times better.

they all have great voices. it just that only voice got me.

  • very good, only thing is that the melody (soprano 1, if im not mistaken) out too much into it, i tink it would sound better with a blend

  • Wonderful job.

  • one is only sticking out becuase BRITTANY(the blonde) is doing a S O L O

  • They made it sound like a contest rather than a piece of music. The blonde just took the lead and didn't back down.

    Eww =(

  • ew. they should blend more. with the one sticking out, i think it sounds horrible.

  • this is awesome. great job and blondie is a babe

  • You know what Miley Cyrus, I bet you don't even know what this is.

    This is called good music.

  • Jewdai is just being an ass...

  • pwetty

  • BEAUTIFUL

  • Jewdai: I don't know what you would think would make it ineligible. There is nothing within that, stylistically, that would dictate grounds for disqualification. Phenomenally done and making me miss my old days of barbershop.

  • that was beautiful

  • thats good melody

  • Hi, Georgia was a custom arrangement written for UnderAge in 2005 by Susan Lamb....it is probably available for purchase now. Phantom is a David Wright arrangement---very challenging! Hope this helps.

  • Hi there Are your arrangements of Georgia and Phantom available to purchase?? I am a coach in New Zealand and my Quartets are HUGE fans!! We would love to try the above songs. Good luck and keep up the AWESOME vocal work.

  • You're entitled to whatever views you like but just remember that at the end of the day, those are medals around their necks and they aint got them for nothing! fair play to the girls, I think they're fantastic and if I even have half the voice that their lead does then I'll be happy!

  • Still the composition is not an official Barbershop composition. There are many stylistic issues that should have made this composition ineligible.

  • Jewdai, that is just your opinion though. There is nothing within the standing barbershop competing rules of Sweet Adelines that would disqualify these songs due to their style. Yes, a traditional barbershop song would have the lead singing the melody line and the composition would be different, but Sweet Ads accept modern barbershop arrangements as well

  • If you're referring to the fact that it isn't a contest song, you're right. They didn't sing it in the contest, they sung it as part of a show package at international

  • Wow. Reminds me of that peacfull feeling at church. I LIVE for that feeling!

  • Well maybe you should appreciate four beautiful young girls singing excellent harmony instead of sitting there in judgment that they might have sharped a song a half step. By the way, sharping a half shows that they're singing very well. Even if they were a whole step flat, who gives a rats ass? They are on a stage performing live and representing the new order in harmony singing. Instead of discouraging them with your retarded views, why not shut your hole and just enjoy something for once.

  • It WASN'T excellent harmony, though, that's the thing. Anyone with good sense of harmony would know that.

They're good, but internationally the VERY best? I don't think so.

Good on them for winning, I didn't say they didn't deserve it, just that it didn't sound, at least to me that they should have, because I've heard a lot better.

And why are you attacking me? Saying shallow and unjustified thing things like I have retarded views of barbershop singing ha ha. Hate the game, not the player.

  • Hmm...

It's too much about the lead (the blonde one) in my opinion. Her voice is too lead dominated, and she needs to have more consistently blending vowels rather than being the main focus.

A lot of barbershop is about blending, harmonies, and harmonic shifts, and all I could really hear was a pretty good singer backed by a bit of vocal texture.

And at an international level, they shouldn't be making the kind of mistakes they made in that performance :)

    And the sound quality hurts!
