there are alot of ways to get the sound. just figure out how to do it in the middle of playing. you can also do a natural harmonic and wiggle the string to get a similar sound.

I play in standard all the time, and I can do pinch harmonics with my strat with Fender Custom Shop '69 strat pickups and Fender Pro Jr. It is not that hard.

Guys i need help, im kinda a noob in the whole guitar business and i dont know nothin about amps, i do know that i have a Roland Micro Cube though and i was wondering if anyone knows whether or not i would be able to play harmonics on it or not.

@cloud50006 i think you should be fine, have it on the distortion channel or the channel with the most gain (or distortion) and set all the dials to 12 oclock maybe have the gain up higher but thats it

the best way i find to test whether pinch harmonics are gonna work or not is to try natural harmonics

go to the g-string

go to the fifth fret on the g-string

now touch your finger onto the fret directly on top of the fret marker, dont push the string down (obviously you have to apply little pressure but dont let the string touch the neck)

pick the g string and it should ring out on a much higher note than if you actually pressed down the string

@cloud50006 the roland micro cube is an amazing amp. i own 2 so when i go on road trips with my friends we can jam in the car/hotel rooms/ etc. you can do harmonics on any amp, you dont need distortion, although it is easier with distortion.

@cloud50006 I used a Roland Micro Cube (I think it was the 30) a year ago at a music camp, and once you dial in the right settings you can definitely get some beastly harmonics to jump out of it. I think they're the ultimate solid-state practice amp.

@cloud50006 my school has a few 10 watt roland micros and harmonics are fine on them (they're great amps too *envy*). switch to the "Metal" effect, turn the gain up high and make sure the volume is low (you can play with it once you turn the amp on, high gain hurts!) there are heaps of great videos for how to do harmonics and pinch harmonics, so knock yourself out!

Yeah you need a guitar with locking nuts at the top of the neck. I recomend ibanez. thats what i use, and they're great with the floyd rose. well actually now they have to use the zr.

yeah man, basically you need an amp with alot of pre-amp gain as when you do a pinch harmonic, you're increasing the frequency 4 times or more so the amplitude of the string is devided by four... so with lots of gain = lots of volume on the harmonic
