  • 0:44 where did that come from

  • The spaceship looks more like it's 100 years old than it went through reentry.

  • wow

  • what is the set with the crane

  • This looks like something you could use to some old trains to make it look like there in the scrap yard.

  • What's the name of the set in which you found the crane?

  • @leokimvideo i am (hopefully) going to make a series of thomas using take alongs. i need to get the narrow gauge engines looking all dusty and dirty like they are. can you tell me how to do it please?

  • Shilack shilack shilack

  • I admire your passion and care for film making.

  • Get fun with beautiful Asian women *lushfmlk.info*

  • I did the same thing to a toy truck, but I used coffee instead. It looks like it's covered in dirt and mud

  • @LittleMonsterUSA1992 I have found if your presenting things to camera you need to over do the detail a touch, I see this all the time at work.

Sure I cave some extreme examples here and that's how I would present them to camera. If it was for a static display for personal viewing I would be be less aggressive with the detailing.

  • would it work on 00 models?

  • I agree that w/ film work the stage/props need to be kinda OVERdone, scenically. But with the digital sharpness these days, something need be said about more detail. I know a few makeup artists that have to insert more detail simply b.c of the better cameras now.

  • I have a bit of a sugguestion for the next mad bomber episode. You look like you would like to have some diversity amongst the different cherecters so here's my idea. I was thinking if you have multiples of Ertl or Take A Long toys, take a whole bunch of action figures of different series and making a cast of the faces. Then put those faces on some of the trains. That would create some diversity and for all we know draw even more attention to the next Mad Bomber episodes. Just a meere idea.

  • OMG I have that crane lying around my bedroom i never thought it was used in the mad bomber!?!?

  • Im doing the same thing with my models

  • mad props on that FAST paint method! Im doing a sci-fi and needs TONS of weathered props vehicles and scenery. it seems overwhelming, but your vid just gave me some hoped relief. you rule!

  • @Madkre8tor It's a hard and fast method, possibly not suitable for all. I find models appearing in video need to be overdone for the camera to read the distress. I know many model train people play with powders but I tend to find their effect to be quite subtle.

  • @leokimvideo Your videos are absolutely fantastic! The Mad Bomber series has amused me enormously and your making-of films are incredibly informative and professionally done! Your comment about 'overdoing' paint effects for video certainly rings true - I've been experimenting with miniature effects and in my latest scene subtle effects just weren't showing so I really had to overdo them; in the flesh it looks terrible but on video it's fine.

  • ware do you get that crane?

  • @treedoublehappiness I bought mine at a toys R us, they seem to come and go. Look carefully at the cheaper end of toys you will find this crane is packed in quite a few toys.

  • This is a really cool technique. Do you know if it will work on wood as well or just plastic?

  • leo i found that same crane on line

  • I love the front end loader (To a degree it looks like it was caught in the fireball of a Natural Gas explosion.) I like how a little bit of the stripes by the cab show through it gives it that look like there is a livery under this layer of grime.

What's funny I have that same construction set (I got mine years ago, though) Still have most of it...

  • @BurlingtonNorthernRy Thanks for your comment, I have to say I love the crane in this set.

  • wow Awesome !

  • can i buy a ERTL thomas that wes not blown up

  • @MrTrainboy1 Try Ebay, ERTL stopped making this type of stuff years ago...

  • i thought the cran really was medal

  • Question do the small Take Along characters just lift out of the cars or did you have to cut him out.

  • @SkarloeyFan

I suspect your asking about the FC in the Take Along car.

You have to drill out the rivets and all will be revealed in how to remove the FC, there is a plastic clip which holds him in no cutting required.

  • Can you put the shellac mix into a water spray as well as the black spritz so you have two bottles? Will the shellac mix dry solid within the tubes and destroy the spray?

I just feel perhaps that the spray would give a more thourough coat...

  • Yes / No / maybe! a brush is simple and you know me I love simple.

  • like it leo

  • what do you mean by a spider took over your channel?

  • I had a video go mega viral which featured a spider, this took much management and consumed heaps of my video producing time.

  • I've never heard of shellac before. But there are a few things popping in my mind, what will this do to plastic models that had brass or metal parts and products, as well as moving parts and electrical conductivity if used in a model railroad application (or model railroad video application) Also, you said that the effect is reversible, does it fade over time or rub off?

  • It is a very robust finish, if applied to shiny plastic it may scratch off easily.

  • I was always a big fan of the dry-brush technique, but I've never tinkered with shellac

    (YET!)

  • in this collection of china best crap lol

  • Great job. I was especialy impressed by the weathering on the space shuttle model. 5/5

  • at 4:33 you sparyed black on every thing behind it.

  • Thats my Jackson Pollock moment in the video..lol!

  • i think i hade that set!

  • i love shellac

  • Great tutorial

  • good insights.

  • "China's Best Plastic Crap" - priceless, Leo!

  • I thought this would be boring, but it wasn't. I don't have any talent for this sort of thing. Everything I do would have to be virtual and I'm still not very good at that as well.

I just lack the patience for this sort of thing, but I can appreciate it. :)

  • Great insights, thanks Leo. If only it was this easy to get CG models looking good!

  • Nice, reminds me alot of what they did in Thunderbirds.

  • hi leo how are you

  • does it hav 2 be plastic

  • @IndianaJonesnutter

No, it can me any material

  • It will be cool if you do Mad Bomber Ep 3 in CGI.

  • Erm no. Leokimvideo would rather use homemade sets and effects than go anywhere near CGI. Besides when I watch his videos I know the explosions are real and I would never want that to change.

  • Well, if he did, then he might lose subs, we like seeing REAL things, not CGI. And please, TurboJUSA, take down you contest video. It is plagiarism and makes no sense at all.

  • wrer could i find this crane ?

  • This crane can be found in various toy packs, you have to look carefully as it seems to be the generic cheap crane.

I purchased this set from Toys R Us, but I notice the stock sells really fast.

  • i want to find crane for my layout

  • @TheThomas64fan

    Seems everyone wants this crane...!

  • This video will teach modellers they don't have to spend a fortune to make something extremelly realistic. The most basic Childrens toy can quickly transform just like that. It's nice to modify things because it adds a charm to your layout and is certainly more appealing than simply buying expensive scenery.

  • Warhammer, Hornby or any Hobby related to Modelling can make use of these techniques for scenery and vehicles :)

  • Great tips Leo, you helpot with my models, thankz:)

  • Thank you Leo for revealing how you make your models look so realistic. The effect is amazing especially what you achieved with the spaceship. I am becoming more and more interested in making model films now. What I particuarly like about it is that your totally free to use your imagination and a limited budget can be made to go a long way. Excellent voice over as well Leo. Another superb film in your library. Well done and thanks again for sharing. :)

  • @shrimpfarmer

your the first tuber to give me a credit for my voice overs, thats been the one thing I have been hammered for for 3 years now.

I could send you a list of a thousand comments about my crappy voice overs.

Sir I am Mr limited budget, thats the part I always strive for. No need to blow big money for a big look.

  • That is fantastic, i'll have to try that out on one or two bits on my layout.10000* Cheers.

  • wow looks awesome and your video is concise, simple and instructive.

  • Awesome. This is really good stuff. I love weathering things. Thanks for the tips!

  • That was interesting throughout, informative and enlightening.

    Keep going.

  • very cool! I learned something :)

  • Mark thanks for the support.

  • Actually Mark your bloody awesome, your a big name tuber who has the time to peruse the much smaller tubers.

Now if only all the mega tubers had time for the bottom feeders!

  • Sir Top'em Hat Approves!

  • Awesome! :D

  • how cool is that! good video buddy.

  • Very good and interesting!

  • I got to use that in my lego animations!

    It's perfect cause it's reversable!

  • 0:51 LOL China's best crap

  • Leo,you have done it again.Well Done =D

  • sorry for taking so long to get this video out, that spider caused absolute havoc.

yet another secret is released to the tubers, pretty soon I will have none to tell!

  • I highly doubt that Leo.I'm pretty sure you will have tons of secrets still to come :)

  • interesting, I might have to try this on some transformer toys I have.

  • AWESOMENESS. TOO COOL 4 WORDS

  • Many thanks for sharing this truly abstract method. I wonder what other model train guys will think of this, as they are used to powders and painting for weathering.

  • @hiesler this method is used widely in the film industry by scenic artists, it's a fast method for a fairly rustic look. The powders and paints do have their place, that is if you have the time to apply them.

For film and video work you really need to over do the effect so it can be seen.

  • Interesting technique there! 5/5

  • cool , i'm giving that a try with one of my 1:18 model cars this week end

    a 57 ford pickup i have 2

  • Hi there

Is awesome seeing how u were able to do the rusty looking effects to ur models ^^ Fabulous vid there Leo ^^ The Coal line is being featured again? Oh dear, had we known sooner, u could have kept the model longer to have it in the background or something. But still, awesome vid and something I'll keep in mind in the near future ^^

    Euan

  • mate u r awesome thanks for that

  • THAT Is fucking awesome.

  • Absolutely brilliant.. :)

  • Amazin !

    the next one looks COOOL

  • Might not get the views of the spider, but it was far more informative. Thanks

  • I try my best to mix it up on my channel, you just never know what the next upload will be.

Variety is a important as Content.

  • Fascinating stuff, mate!

  • This looks very helpful. Thanks Leo.

    -Robert
