Well, logically speaking, it would be in humanity's best interest to spread out. Setting aside the problem of Earth able to meet the needs of an ever growing population, there are other issues. Any number of disasters could affect the Earth, so it'd be good to have a "backup" human population elsewhere to continue propagating the species.

Well, logically speaking, it would be in humanity's best interest to spread out. Setting aside the problem of Earth able to meet the needs of an ever growing population, there are other issues. Any number of disasters could affect the Earth, so it'd be good to have a "backup" human population elsewhere to continue propagating the species.
Although, admittedly, the way humans are now, I can't say I'd be too sorry to see us all go the way of the dinosaurs.

When I was in high school (two and a half yrs ago) in my junior yr, three science classes including my own were combined to see the presentation of a NASA manager talking about sending rovers and other machines to collect samples from the planet's surface. As well as how crucial it was for zero human contact on the surface of Mars would be, lest we contaminate the planet and any possible signs of life still living.

Cosmology is heading down the wrong road at breakneck speed.
