@solynawaz To say it's the fault of "poor village peoples" is highly incorrect.Think about the thouands of high net worth firms in the private sector creating pollution and environmental degradation, which in turn have attracted people from outside for jobs. Also the wealthier are buying more cars and building homes creating a concrete jungle.
I hate how at 1.57 they say 'Dhaka is almost beyond help'. Since this was posted in 2008 many areas of Dhaka have alreday improved and some look more beautiful than where I live (Surrey, UK). It just needs really really hard work and lots of it, but the problem won't ever be eradicated but can be improved.

Bangladesh needs Decentralised, only solution for Dhaka, Instead of making Dhaka a worlds largest slum visible from space; BD gov should Equally distribute the national wealth amongst all 7 Division and develop those cities as well, so that will take allot of pressure from Dhaka.

I go to Bangladesh every few years or so..I just recently went in december 2009..im not from Dhaka though I'm from East bangladesh-Sylhet but we visit Dhaka ..and you really can tell the difference, when you go to Dhaka its very polluted and congested. I am an Indian, all I have to say is give Bangladesh some more time. Within 30 yrs they have a Nobel Laureate, deaths due to cyclones in BD is now history (I guess BD has one of the best storm mgt), BD's population is now lower than Pakistan's which shows that their birth control measures r 1 of the best. All this pollution is due to sudden economic growth. Even London was also polluted during industrial revolution. BD will overcome this matter also in a matter of few years.

This is hilarious....the reporter claimed that Dhaka is becoming a dead city......while in reality...our exports rising by more than 25 percent each year,along with remittance,earning a combined total of 16+11=27 Billion US Dollars annually..and dhaka lies in the center of it all.There are currently 15000 buildings under-construction in Dhaka,of which,over 300 are skyscrapers(12-47 storied tall). They dont have time to cover that kinda news!

Bangladesh needs Decentralised, only solution for Dhaka, Instead of making Dhaka a worlds largest slum visible from space; BD gov should Equally distribute the national wealth amongst all 7 Division and develop those cities as well, so that will take allot of pressure from Dhaka.

I go to Bangladesh every few years or so..I just recently went in december 2009..im not from Dhaka though I'm from East bangladesh-Sylhet but we visit Dhaka ..and you really can tell the difference, when you go to Dhaka its very polluted and congested. I hope it will get better in years to come, insha allah.

I am an Indian, all I have to say is give Bangladesh some more time. Within 30 yrs they have a Nobel Laureate, deaths due to cyclones in BD is now history (I guess BD has one of the best storm mgt), BD's population is now lower than Pakistan's which shows that their birth control measures r 1 of the best. All this pollution is due to sudden economic growth. Even London was also polluted during industrial revolution. BD will overcome this matter also in a matter of few years.

Its interesting because on the pricewaterhousecoopers website there is an article called "Beyond the BRICs: updated global growth projections to 2050" its an update from there previous article that that came out a few years back and claims B'desh will be a major league economy by 2050.. (",)..shocking!! but I guess this all this pollution is a side effect

You need a big population for economic development. Quality and quantity of consumption determines eco dev. UK n other countries needed colonies n big populations to dev eco. In India we thought our big population is a curse n China 1 child policy is a blessing. Now the reverse is proving 2 b true. India in near future will have maximum population in working age whereas China n western countries will have maximum ppl who r retired n r on pension. I c BD n Srilanka as 2 dark horses like Vietnam.

Oh wow, what a terrible place to live- it reminds me of London during the industrial revolution. Now Asia and Africa are going through what western society went through in the 18th century, only this time there's cameras rather than just drawings...
I hope that Dhaka- and other places polluted as badly, no matter what part of the world it's in- are seen to and cleaned up. No human being should live like that.

My friend recently came back from desh and said.. they got lots of fancy buildings & cars in dhaka all the trappings of a modern city.. very nice eh?.. But he also saw people are still openly defecating in the streets.. WTF!! in 2009..? Bottom line is bro, our people as a whole are generally very unclean, its bad habits and lack of basic hygene.. thats the sad truth, so dont go thinking you dhakhiya people are so high and mighty coz you aint.. LOL..

theres a state funding mosque going up by my house as we speak. How about spending that money on something more important? Makes sense to me but then agian im just a westerner. im not moving my tounge im actually typing, and muslims are muslims by name because they want to incorprate islam with everything and it obviously does cause porblems if it didnt the most powerful nations would have never seperated state and church. I have been living in Dhaka for 10 months now and have met many banglideshi political figures and yes they are muslim and yes the government is muslim. Anyway i was not blaming all the problem on religion just as something i seen that should be fixed

dumb christian, it's just the christian nations that separated 'church' and 'state'. as it says already one needs to separate 'church' and 'state'. it doesn't work and needn't work for islam and muslims.
throughout history, muslim countries that lived the most islamic lives, under most correct religious rulings, flourished. Same holds true today.
Because Bangladesh, Turkey, indonesia, or egypt are secular, they are backward compared to Saudi Iran or even less islamic countries like UAE qatar

So out of the 25 countries 13 have a majority religion of muslim and the top 2 are both muslim, so i dont understand if muslims preach cleanliness then why are over half of the top dirtiest cities muslim? Also i dont have a probelm with islam besides the fact that they are unable to seperate religion from government. You're clearly misinformed about the nature of Muslim societies, majority of the Muslims are Muslims by names. They merely follow the outwardly traditions of the religion and neglect the principles and the crede. Bangladesh government is not Islamic just like majority of the governments in the Muslim world, so saying Muslims can't separate religion from government is stupid. They are unislamic to begin with.
This is a problem created by years of ignorance and corruption not because of religion
