I hate to be negative. I really do. I'm a 60 year old man who has flyfished since 5 due to my dad. He gave me a deep love of trout fishing and flytying. I have seen 1 after 1 of my dear trout waters ruined by pike and walleye and pollution and overfishing. I still can't blame anyone though, keeping a fish or two with a son or grandson. It's a wonderful experience. Thanks for letting me ramble.
Now trout are planted in much fewer spots. I have to say spots because 50 years ago they put 50 here and 100 there and 80 here etc. Now they might plant 1000 trout but all in 1 spot and they hope they will run up and down the river... alas they are stopped by beaver dams and falls. etc. They remain grouped up and 10 anglers fish that spot every day til they're gone. When I was young I thought my dad had wonderful trout fishing. Now I long for the trout fishing days of my youth.
Also... Our state fish hatcheries had to learn the hard way that planting trout fry or fingerlings resulted in an enormus die-off before the next spring. Now, in Marquette Co. all the fish plants can be seen on one page of paper. In 1948 just the trout (brook, brown and rainbow) needed 10 pages of paper. (I have the planting schedules back to 1936) Those fish that were planted back then averaged 7"-11" in length. and they were planted EVERYWHERE. From the littlest creek to the biggest lakes.
Ok...let's get some facts straight here. #1... Brook Trout reach spawning age at 1 and 1/2 years of age. They have to since an "old" Brook Trout is 3 years old. Yes...3 years old. If they are big they just grew larger more quickly due to a number of reasons such as genitics, more forage base, less stress..etc. RARELY does a Brook Trout see 4 -5 yrs. of age unless they are in an impoundment (hatchery, family pond etc.) continued..
yes its funny.video is about appreciation for nature and there in that guys creel is a total of four fish approxiamtely 5 years old each,.. top peak breeding age brookies.twenty years of growth in his basket .It all looks harmless and was,..in 1932,.but in 2010 there are 200 times more anglers wanting to fish the same hole and the first few well intentioned dads have unwittingly killed all the fish so other sons and dads cant enjoy them as well.I know you didnt mean it but there it is,
@ravenfork You are obviously not from Michigan. We have a great amount of brook trout here. I personally keep very few but if I do so what? They are not over fished. If they were the DNR would implement lower creel limits. You make a comment like this about a grandfather, his son and grandson keeping a few brookies like it is a crime. With all the video games and crap there are less and less young anglers now. My dad taught me to trout fish by dunking worms and still do at times.
I catch and release, but catch and keep isn't illegal. We have a ton of hatcheries to keep up with demand. That's why they call Michigan's trout fishery "put-and-take."

Do you use a bait or lure?

Bahahaha i like how they just straight up catch and kill,
a small spot like that being fished with bait and keeping the fish will not be left for generations to come
