Can't understand why wussy fans can support what Leaf did in the NFL? Griese did more in his career, both college and NFL than Leaf did in his whole football career! What can you say about Leaf, who is the Biggest bust, joke, moron in all of profesional sports! Is Leave still in jail? LOL!
Being a WSU fan, I'll admit that WAS a PI. But stop with the Ryan Leaf jokes. What did Griese ever do in the NFL? A ring being a 3rd string quarterback shouldn't count for anything.
Washington State fans are funny. You really are just going to ignore that Woodson was camped under the football the previous play until the WSU receiver ran over him?
If Michigan and Nebraska played for the 1997 National Championship...Michigan would've STOMPED the Cornhushkers...Charles Woodson, Tai Streets and the crew would have gave Ahman Green and Scott Frost some trouble...And Tom Osbourne would not have been running up the score like he usually did.
I really don't know what the hell you wsu fans are crying about. You already got away with the penalty on your receiver for interference. "DeNial" ain't just a river in Egypt wsu fans. You lost that game, with a gift! And you want to cry about a "spiked" ball?
To this day, Mike Price tells people that his watch is always a little off because he claims he has a a couple of extra seconds on it.
Even though my Cougs lost this one, I can't help but be proud of them for playing the national champs to a standstill and leaving everything on the field.
@hiazn69 What, is 54raynor wrong, so what we didn't score anyways, how does the PI effect the score? The point is WSU, a school that has never gotten the attention they deserve, played with the #1 team, the indisputably best team of 97, and not to mention the winningest program in the history of college football. The effort and determination that Washington State put on the field that day represented a modern era of Cougar nation that has been forever in the shadow of other schools. And Go Cougs
@Tuel4Heisman YES, HE'S WRONG. THE POINT IS, HE IS HE'S CRYING ABOUT A PLAY THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED! THEY DON'T DESERVE THE ATTENTION BECAUSE OF THEIR WORTHLESS QB, ryan "leave me alone, I'm throwing a tantrum because i'm an underacheiving qb that never deserved to play PROFESSIONALLY!" AND WHAT HAS wsu DONE SINCE THEN? NOTHING! THEY SHOULD HIRE THEIR LOSER QB, ryan leave, as their coach. WHAT A LOSER! NOTHING BUT GETTING IN TROUBLE SINCE THAT GAME. INDY KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING!
WSU fans complain about the 1 second, yet they never bring up the fact of the chicken sh!t no call. And its funny how they assume if they get that 1 second back, they win the game. Notre dame fans were the same way following last years victory.
Game should have been over when the receiver(Taylor) pushed Woodson(Heisman Trophy Winner) out of the way. He would have intercepted the ball, game over. Was that ref Hochuli? I think it was! LOL. Nice to know refs can still bet on games!
It's really too bad that you have a basically blind Keith Jackson calling this game. He should have left the game years before this game. I have no idea what his RX was, but he called so many wrong numbers, so many errors, it was embarrassing. He should have gone out on top, as it was he was pathetically bad at the end
I aprticulary like the interference non call where the official has the flag out and in his hand, but realizing that Nebraska needed some help to get a share of the title that year, over and above Tom Osborne breaking out the"sandwich board" and saying "I'm retiring"....... No college football is not fixed
I didn't watch this third part the first time because I figured "hey, they have less than a minute at their own five and they don't score." Glad I watched this. I now understand the reason for the undeserved bitching from people who think we shouldn't have had a share of the NC and I understand that their bitching is indeed undeserved. That missed PI call may just be worse than the awful Cissoko stuff during the 2009 M-Eastern game.
It sucks we had to share the national title with Nebraska. We were way better than them that year. I remember the fluke Nebraska/Missouri game where the football hit the guy's foot into the hands of the awaiting linemen in the end zone for a touchdown in overtime.
Not at all... The Michigan vs Michigan State game in 2004 where Michigan was losing in the fourth quarter 10-27. They came back to win in triple overtime 45-37... OMG so good. It gives me chills just thinking abou that incredible game.
Whats that God? yeah I know WSU should've had 1 second left. I know just 1 more play and we would've won one of the biggest games in the schools history.
@connorqb17 What's that God? Retribution for that blatant offensive pass interference? WSU wouldn't have won anyways because Michigan's defense was stopping them ALL GAME LONG? ok God... bye!
@connorqb17 what's that God? the yes woodson was pushed and the ref was about to throw a flag but didn't he kept it in his hand and decided to keep the WSU in the game. wow. lets just be biased and ignore the obvious pass interference that would negate washington State even having a shot with one second at the end.
@Brettwbeyer14 Thats justifying a bad cause, is it no different than a government making a mistake and the people paying for it. Listen, if a ref makes a mistake, he should realize this by trying to better his decision making, not by punishing a team from his mistake, as a fan, I understand that you want to defend your national title, but seriously, that does not justify what the ref did.
@connorqb17 that's not the point im trying to make. im not suggesting the ref let the seconds run off the clock to justify his call. fact is if he made the right call in the first place there would be no excuse from you or any other WSU FAN. it;s that simple throw flag=wsu out of game. since michigan won you can't just make an excuse and ignore the other side of the coin. the bad call happened first, and therefoe negates any later attempt to argue about what happened after.
@connorqb17 Learn the rules of football you idiot. It's not when the ball hits the ground, it is when the ref signals the time keeper to stop clock; in this game 0:00. You lost, deal with it.
@VCavman24 No the play is over when the ball hits the ground. If the ref makes the mistake of running an extra second off the clock (which he obviously did) nowadays the play would be reviewed and they would put a second back on the clock. Since they didn't have replay at that time the ref blew a huge game. Theres no way you should be defending this call even if a pass interference call was missed.
@connorqb17 You think God is a WSU fan? Really? Hmm... Anyways, you were lucky Taylor wasn't called on a blatant pass interference otherwise you wouldn't have time to spike it. So, no, you don't deserve that "bad call" in your opinion. Plus, you must be stupid to think Leaf would've laid a game-winner in the endzone. Woodson and Hendricks would've either batted it down or picked it off or Leaf would've been sacked by the likes of Glen Steele. Sorry your still grouchy have 13 years.
@connorqb17 Dude, tell me Woodson didn't get pushed 2 plays prior. The freaking ref had his flag out, but was balls deep in Washington St. bench and was too much the coward to throw it.
@connorqb17 OK, so admittedly I'm a wolverine fan and I was at that game, but if WSU had somehow won after that BS drive that would have been a far bigger travesty. First, there was the obvious offensive pass interference, then the idiot who caught the pass fakes an injury to keep the clock stopped, and finally, why on earth was WSU spiking the ball anyway? Run your final play and throw it to the endzone for crying out loud! Don't try to milk two plays out of 2 seconds. The right team won.
@connorqb17 ok ill give you one more second if you take away that shit 50 yard play that should not have happened. Quit bitching and stop living in the past
yupp sure there should be one second left, from the fucking 10 yard line!!!!!! NICE SHOVE DID YOU ENJOY THAT, thats the answer for Charles woodson, right, shove him over so he cant intercept it. i dont want to hear all this garbage about how there should be 1 second left okay.
Bob Griese is a class act. Brian did not make a lot of mistakes that year, but Bob was very impartial. I know it was hard to do this game with his pup on the field trying to make plays. Lloyds joke was pretty funny by Lloyd Carr standards...
thats if woodson didnt pick it off too. he had better positioning for it and didnt even bother to put his hand back to check where the reciever was. the only thing he was thinking was getting the ball
Thanks for uploading these three videos, I just turned my last paper in as a student at the University of Michigan, and now i'm reminded of one of the many reasons why i came to this school. This game and this university makes me proud not only to be from Michigan but to have an opportunity to go to the school.
Ridiculously obvious pass interference- Woodson would have probably ended the game right there with an interception. Best thing was Bob Griese losing it at the end after spending the entire season trying to be objective while watching his son play.
in all honesty WSU probably should've had 1 second left, but then again there was that blatant offensive PI that went uncalled 2 plays earlier. poetic justice? i think so
