Nice but I do worry that if there was ever a fire and you were upstairs you couldnt get out fast enough..?Do you have a rope ladder that you could hang out your windows.?
how long did this take you to get everything figured out as far as water systems, heating and cooling, power for like internet or tv, and basically everthing you need to live and working properly? You should put some carpet and a trap door type thing on the upstairs
thats pretty amazing, you should put LED for illumination, there are a lot of 10w reflectors that will light up whole yard, 12v too, ur saving the planet man, keep it up

@lococavasa totally agree, i love what this guy is doing, and think it could really be taken to the next level with a small community of like minded people as like you say, you could get a mini farm type deal going on to provide all your food. In addition, you could barter your skills with others and help each other out to improve your quality of life.
Not bad use of space. I am sometimes clumsy though, so I would have to be able to put a door on the loft enterence or I would fall down one day trying to get to the office, lol. Wow that would hurt. I am sure you are less clumsy though.
Great setup. I'm definitely going this way in the future. This is more then enough for a single man and his woman. And the great thing. ITS OFF THE GRID. Thanks for the great video brother take care.
This is so cool. I wonder how far away from urban centers you need to go to get land where it won't be a hassle to build something like this or to get land this cheap? I don't mean like New York or LA but for instance how far is the nearest city of around 100,000 peeps or so with some sort of nightlife?
Since you use a ladder to go up to your bedroom and down to the bathroom, how do you go to the bathroom in the middle of the night while you're half asleep in the dark?
That sounds like what an ex-wife would love to hear if she's still paying for your life insurance and she is the beneficiary.
@solarcabin Which is why I am happy to report that my bed and bathroom are level, and about 20 feet away from each other (the entire leanth of my place). Your cabin is more efficient at heating though. Mine is about the same space but spread out.
I have one question. What do you plan to do with this house once you are old and can not climb the loft ladder? i have always thought about this when watching these homesteading videos. If it were me I would just build a smaller portion off the side of the house that way when i am older I can access it.
@SalafeeSpot Invest in plenty of vitamins for your health. My great grandfather was as strong as an oxe at 95. Having to be feeble when you are old is a misnomer.
Love your videos and your home is bad ass. Do you plan to expand the cabin dimensions to accomodate a child if you and the miss have children in the future? You never know.
Thanks- I and the girlfriend are past our kid raising days and my son is 18. I hope to have grandkids someday and then I might build on. The cabin is designed to have additions off 3 sides and I include the addition plans in my book,

Also, with that gap that I saw between the screen door and the cabin floor, I wasn't sure the whole home was all that insulated. KUDOS for building what you did, though. Looks nice and tight, especially for one person.
What is the total square footage of the whole layout? I'm guessing about 425 sq. ft.
I have a huuuge question for you: When you look out of this home, from the living area, you see a huge gap below the front door where air and whatnot (bugs?) can get in? How you seal off the gap below the front door, when only the screen door is open, and also when BOTH doors are shut, please? Thanks!

yay i was thinking in previous vid when u said sum about "thats all u need in a living room" that "NOOO, where's the ps??" Phew, there have it man there u have it
I was told by a co-worker (Power Company) that a solar system would not be cost efficient enough to justify setting one up. I'm interested in have some semiblence of power after the collapse...how much of your solar system makes up your total system and how many things can you run at once?
My cabin is totally off-grid. If you are connected to the grid stay connected but look at a system big enough to handle emergency needs in case of a power failure.
This reminds me so much of my small house. I started out with a 14X 20.....with a loft. I have since added three additional rooms. Each room was larger than the original part of the house. I REALLY regret adding the additions. I would give anything if I would have left it exactly as it was. I paid or it as it was being built and owe nothing.
Great video and information. I live very simply in a small unit, but my dream is to have a small cabin in the woods, preferably near a stream or a lake. You give me hope that I can achieve that dream. Here, the codes to build such a structure make it impossible to get a permit, or i should say expensive and very time consuming. Thank you for spending the time to share the information. From the amount of hits you have, your helping many people.

@jayjayenn1 Meaning of poor: $2000.00 mortgage payments - $500.00 Car payments - LARGE utilities payments - LARGE insurance payments - GETTING EVERY MORNING TO SLAVE WORK TO PAY FOR THIS SHIT AND NEVER GET TO ENJOY IT BECAUSE YOUR NEVER HOME AND WHEN YOUR HOME YOUR TO TIRED TO ENJOY IT. SO IF YOU THINK YOUR RICH BECAUSE OF THAT WELL ALL THE BEST TO YOU BRO!
So does the second floor have a weight limit, and when u catch some shut eye does the loft ladder have a floor board to cover it cause it'll be mighty painful to fall from that height... :OUCH
@jayjayenn1 Unlike you, some people know the common actual needs. Not everyone needs an iphone, benz, big house, etc. So do the rest of youtube a favor and shut your mouth.
Yes ofcoure poverty sucks and everything I am not American and I don't evening in the US, what I really liked about this guy is his self determination and his ability to make things happen on the ground. Thumbs up.
@jayjayenn1 are you a little dim? this guy doesn't have to haul out money every month for house payments, you're just jealous. i'm 18 & i am joining this crowd~!
I work when I want as a I want and only a few hours a day. I take November through March off to travel. I am semi-retired. I am an author, song writer and and own a small pest control business. I will work on my creative projects for the rest of my life and they provide a nice income.
This is such a wonderful home! Because I do organizing for a living and love saving money, I fully appreciate smaller homes, using only what space we need, leaving a smaller footprint, and still enjoying everything we love. I really enjoy your videos.

I was told by a co-worker (Power Company) that a solar system would not be cost efficient enough to justify setting one up. I'm interested in have some semiblence of power after the collapse...how much of your solar system makes up your total system and how many things can you run at once?
Unworthy241 4 months ago
@Unworthy241
My cabin is totally off-grid. If you are connected to the grid stay connected but look at a system big enough to handle emergency needs in case of a power failure.

I don't like the hole in the floor of the loft, I would get clumsy and fall through it. Otherwise, some very good ideas.

This reminds me so much of my small house. I started out with a 14X 20.....with a loft. I have since added three additional rooms. Each room was larger than the original part of the house. I REALLY regret adding the additions. I would give anything if I would have left it exactly as it was. I paid or it as it was being built and owe nothing.

is your tv connected to cable or satellite?

@eldrama2
Neither- I have an antennae and get 15 channels. You could get satellite just about anywhere.

From the amount of hits you have, your helping many people.

a barn style roof would really open up the loft space :)
ub2bn 5 months ago
@ub2bn
Yes it could be done with a barn style roof for more headroom and that would not add much to the expense.

This is such a wonderful home! Because I do organizing for a living and love saving money, I fully appreciate smaller homes, using only what space we need, leaving a smaller footprint, and still enjoying everything we love. I really enjoy your videos.
