  • this looks soooo awesome on mute XD

  • Well, the music and choreography are meant to evoke a sense of primitivism and exoticism, so based on the other comments it has clearly done what it set out to do. Right. On.

  • Copland and Cage have been trying to copy Stravinsky ever since ... Fortunately, it didn't work!

  • What's that?!

  • Ok! You can't immagine how it is now! The choreography ad evolved so much! And the dancers! Just try to see it for real! On stage! You gonna cry it's so amazing!!!

  • The original by Nijinsky is vastly superior.

  • @chindertitan absolutely!

  • I can see why there were riots. Not that i don't lik it. It just makes me feel so weird :P Its scary.

  • I like trains.

  • psytraaaaaaance

  • @7:02 hahahahhahahahahahahha! overkill!!!

  • gold. danke!

  • not savage enough for my tastes :)

  • 7:00 - 7:12 Nothing can beat it!

  • Simply amazing!!

  • A lot has happened in music, dance and history since 1913. The reconstructed Nijinsky choreography looks 'interesting' but a dated sedate pageant all taking itself too earnestly. There is more direct power here

  • Is this Nijinsky's original choreography?

  • @hwales1 No, I don't believe... Béjart modified the choregraphy.

  • The best visualization of pure Art I ever seen

  • 3:35 - the true birth of the Thriller dance!

  • fun fact: this was charlie parker's favorite piece...

  • wow, this is not a good version...

  • Kunst gefällt nicht jedem - aber ich finds gut!

@ reinforce11: in youtube gibt es soviel bull shit - das hier gehört nicht dazu!

  • OK, if you don't like this one, go see the Joffrey reconstruction of the 1913 Nijinsky production. It's way different. Way good! It's here in YT.

  • was ein kranker bulls hit

  • Saw a rendering of this ballet a couple of weeks ago in Stockholm. I just loved it! One of the best pieces of modern dance I've ever seen!

  • I think it's awesome. Look at how they are moving their bodies which is what dance is about and Béjart is a brilliant choreographer. It's sexy. I love it.

  • @321sebastian123 what was so funny about that?

  • haha this video is so funny i laughed so hard at 3:00 till 5:40 x)

  • same with 3:17. It looks like an "ancient ritual" alright!

  • this is so peculiar

  • I'm trying with EVERYTHING I have to take this choreography seriously... I feel like the only one who can't. :( I'm sorry!

  • @meowkie so don't take it seriously.

  • @meowkie I actually find this to be the best choreography out of the three versions I've seen.

  • @OriginalBasaliskos Oh, it's REALLY incredible! But I think someone was bound to get a kick out of it sooner or later.

  • @meowkie I was having the same problems but in my researches i found out that you need to take some LSD in order to find the meaning... good luck and good journey! :P

  • @meowkie try not to see ballet as a form of art with norms which should be followed only for attaining "beauty", but as a medium of free artistic expression through body movements... do you know the meaning of this music? it is about man in it's most natural, essential emotional state. once you understand stravinsky's vision, the choreography will make sense

  • @Skhikkhi0 I most certainly understand this piece, I've studied it for years now and I've seen hundreds of different interpretations of it through dance and sound. I hear and respect your opinions and interpretations of this particular choreography! :) Personally, I just *don't* think this looks....natural. It's expertly performed, it just cracks me up because it looks so bizarre! I'm more taken with acts that reflect Nijinsky's portrayal of raw emotion and primitive story-telling. :)

  • @Skhikkhi0 In any case, I've seen this entire ballet, and I do like the remaining few parts. I wasn't a big fan of the Sacrificial Dance, but I really enjoyed most of the other movements. This, to me, is just an awkward way to captivate an audience for the remaining half hour or so of the show, hahaha...I think the rest of this piece is really interesting though!

  • @321sebastian123 I entierly agreee

  • Le son est décalé.. :s

    Merci qd même :)

  • How can I get a DVD of this. To AUSTRALIA.?

Went to Bejart site, no luck. How did you get hold of this please Kalla31?

  • Really broadens the scope of the original ballet, or rather abandons it. But very coherent.

  • Disney tried...but the mouse can't touch this. AMAZING bit of CHOREOGRAPHY!!! ROCK on Igor!!

  • I really enjoyed it!

(Although, one must admit that it's like a gay acid trip.)

  • @druidmechanics because its the 70s ;)

  • who is the conductor?

  • if I didn't know anything about the story of this ballet I would say the dance depicted the birth of man-primitive,fully formed. The visual impact is rather stunning

  • Birth of hip hop at 6:36.

  • don't mock Stravinsky's holy sacre :P It's brilliant music, though this orchestra is not that good ...

  • @Sunagan It almost appears as if the choreographer is satirizing Stravinsky's music. (And I've always enjoyed this music.) I'm a critic of many things that Disney did, but his take on this music in "Fantasia" is much more appealing than this "choreography."

  • nice exercise is this yoga ?

  • Yeah, it doesn't look like they're really dancing, it only looks like they are hopping while doing yoga.

  • i love it

  • This is WONDERFUL!!!! I love it...

    Jack, from Brazil...

  • sorry if this was posted already, but who is the orchestra playing this? I'm guessing its a French orchestra? the bassoon sounds terrible!

  • It's also a 1970 recording.

  • I like this beginning; leaving the Introduction to Part I blank always seemed silly to me, but why oh why did the choreographer decide against using the naturally jarring rhythms in the Dance of the Adolescents? It's so strong; not using it muddies the music. And that section sounds so good on this recording...

  • I agree, it doesn't seem to fit...

  • que impresionante, gracias por el video!

  • Yeah, it's great...

  • What incredible insight into the human psyche you must possess, fredserpente. The comment to view ratio on ballet performances are extremely low already, there is no need for your graffiti style stereotypifications. There is no connection between homo eroticism in art and homosexuality. I'd recommend auto sexuality for yourself however. In that manner: gfy.

  • It was a joke!

  • just for the lulz, eh. I see you are Italian, get rid of this Berlusconi like mocking of minorities.

  • love the seventies hair dos! Wonder what they're all doing now.

  • c'est étonnant!

  • thank you for posting this great masterpiece!!!!!

  • i kinda like the original dance better. Though it is an interesting modern take upon the dance

  • 3:03-03:40 is so funny xD

    I like this music!

  • Bejart is a genius and the dancers incredible.

  • 3:21 funny part !

  • This is awesome!

  • fagotto sounds like a cross between a viola and a sax!!!

  • I know! Immediately I noticed the same thing.

  • oh my god!

    this is amazing!

    i'm on shock!

they brought it right back to real primitivism, there's so much conceptual detail which is demonstrated through the dancing extraordinarily!

    favourite.

  • So that's what they're doing? Being primitive?? And the other version, the Nijiski or something like that, isn't it also primitive? I don't know, I just began my obsession with this like a week ago.

  • oh.. ermm...

yes the original choreography was supposed to be primitive, to me it was just really ancient tribal, while this is like... cave man, like really primitive. lol.

mostly because of the beginning when they use their hands and posture and it looks kind of... monkeyish. haha. and also their costumes are like they're practically nude, whereas the original choreography includes full tribal costumes.

i don't know either, that's just my interpretation.

    =]

  • watch bausch's work, to have another idea

  • i did watch bausch's choreography.

    it was incredible!

so many amazing interpretations of this piece, we are so lucky to be able to see this on youtube.

  • why did my comment get two thumbs down?? i only said positive things...

    :S

  • grazie!!!

  • RESPECT for that orchestra!

  • Thank you for sharing it...So nice!

"harrietamidala1691" i too thought of the same, why weren't no women in it...

  • This reminds me of a William Shattner fight scene.

  • are there no women in this version? Kinda interesting with using only male dancers? There was a moment where it was almost like the rumble from West Side Story.

  • the first part is men only. then the women have their moment.

  • Wow! This is intense!!! Great talent too!

...and, uh, I must say, I'm liking these male dancers

In all seriousness though, I've always liked the Rite of Spring, and still when I watch this I am in awe as if experiencing it for the first time.

  • In credible piece of music! Who can invent stuff like this?!!

  • thanx for sharing
