I basically wanted what another gent had Kevin build for him. Since most of Kevin's basses were 2-strings, I thought three would be good. Actually, for playing in church, E-A-D works out pretty well. However, since Kevin has delivered some successful 4's, maybe I'll sell the -3 and order up a -4.
Well,Josephdorf03, I'm not the only one who says the upright is dull and muted.Ever wonder why the other members of a traditional jazz combo always play real quiet when the upright bass solos?Because it's hard to hear !Many upright players have their left ear close to the fingerboard so that they can hear themselves.A recent issue of Bass player magazine interviewed an upright bassist who stated,"I like like to use amplification because I like my A flat note to be an A flat. Not an A flat thump"
BTW.When I say upright,I mean ACOUSTIC upright.pfherb"s Twiggy is heavenlyEvery note is articulated. Also there are upright acoustic players that I can hear.Stanley Clarke.Steve Rodby.Charley Haden.Dave Holland.
dude, don't diss the original upright. it's the grandaddy of basses and has a very unique sound. I love it. without the double bass, there would be no Fender Jazz Bass or Twiggy-3
Price is $200 for a 3-string, $250 for 4-string.

Fascinating bass. Great sound, as well. I'm wondering, though... Why three strings instead of four?

Some bassists just dont need the range. Why pay for the strings if you dont use them? Thats the jist of it.

Thanks! The action's a bit high, so it can be a little stiff to play, but I'm thinking about how to mod the bridge a bit.

Now THATS what a bass is supposed to sound like. Not dull, murky, muted like an acoustic upright.
