@2Old4Toys hmm, well the original I got for 8000 Yen while the newer was higher. I'm guessing the original has dropped since the new better one came out. I'd save up for the new one if you had to choose.

The gap is there so that the markings on the back won't be scratched when transformed.

@blardie seems like a horrible reason to make a physical gap... its like how people put ugly plastic covers on sofas so that they dont get dirty...its a fix, but an ugly one

I am so glad I was late to the Macross Frontier party. Having just discovered the series and only after the v2.0 Valkyries were announced, I managed to completely miss the original VF25. I got the new one about a month ago and it is a shining jewel in my collection. Bank account balance permitting, I plan on getting every version Bandai makes of it.

Man, this makes me feel bad about buying the Armored Messiah Ozma Custom 1.0, now that a new version is coming.

@areasevenpro It wasn't my intention to make anyone feel bad, but I can understand.. There is enough of a difference to me to warrant another purchase. The update is a good departure from the original.

@RocketPunchArmy Not your fault. I already felt like this since peaugh reviewed the new VF-25 last month. It's all Bandai's fault for rushing the first figure.
