I really never liked this Liam Gallagher guy - his brother is a lot more talented but still carries the same sort of 'down the nose' sneery attitude, which is difficult to understand. They take actual tunes and riffs from other bands and market them as their own, that's theft. Like Cigarettes and Alcohol it's the exact same riff as T-Rex's Bang a Gong. That's not inspiration or a tribute that's being a lazy writer.

I get a completely different sensation from Cigarettes and Alcohol than I do from Bang a Gong, which indicates to me that each song has a uniqueness that the other doesn't. Oasis, just like the Stones, take from their inspirations and build upon them. That's not lazy song writing, that's honouring the artists that inspired you.

There's no way two ways around it, if you are taking another riff or piece of music from another band and are not giving them credit, that is theft. Oasis are therefore thieves. This whole "honoring' rubbish doesn't make sense, considering they aren't giving credit where credit is due. They're unoriginal song writers because there's nothing special about them.

@piemakesmelol , if that is the case then how do you explain blues music? Whenever I listen to blues music I feel like I can predict the note/chord that comes next. From what I can tell, blues musicians have been re-using guitar riffs since the inception of the genre. You can hear it in Clatpon, the Stones, Zeppelin, White Stripes, Black Keys... John Lennon himself did it on "Yer Blues." Personally, I would never call any of these song writers unoriginal.

And a lot of modern musicians, like the Black Keys and The White Stripes have managed to create interesting riffs within the blues scale. That's why they sound original. Because it is. They may sound similar, but they don't take actual RIFFS from one another like Oasis does.

The White Stripes took the Heart Shaped Box riff for I Can't Wait, and John Lennon was sued for Come Together. With the exception of I Can't Wait, these tracks are arguably the respective artists biggest hits, and yet they have been legally penalized for stealing. I just don't see why Oasis is deserving of any more scrutiny than they are.
