  • Wow what memories, thanks for posting. I loved this game... to bad my Sega CD system stopped working years ago.

  • I LOL'd hard when it said Canada developed an Aircraft Carrier... I am Canadian =) SOOOOO funny!!

  • @Echoboy2002 Heh. Go Canada!

  • this is eery! That was a game way back when. Somebodys been playing us for years, lol. They didn't expect us all to figure it out. Thanks internet! lol

  • what system is this for

  • @PrinceofPrussia10

    Sega CD.

  • wat system is this for

  • This game is so epic. I've played and won with USA, Russia, Germany, Japan, France, UK, and China.

  • @sastath

Nice. I recommend you try the other "challenging" nations like Libya, Brazil, South Africa, Iraq, and India. They are so fun to use. Seeing Europe blanketed by the Middle East powers is very rewarding.

  • @YouLikeBeef

I did start Israel, but deleted because I recently discovered HOI2 and now my time is SC2. Still have to give this game credit. Like the start of it all or something. Think I'm going to play it again. Those small nations is a bitch though.

  • @sastath

Yeah, I totally understand. I found it boring to use those major super powers. I get so much hate messages because I used Israel in this video, but it is NOT my country and I am NOT Jewish. I get stupid remarks like "worst game ever, you are a jew". I'm like you guys are so stupid. I chose Israel because Egypt is easy to defeat in this simulation.

  • I am remember playing this along time ago ,it was classic, and i noticed people are afraid to make world war 3 games nowadays, anyways, where can i download this at?

  • I am remember playing this along time ago ,it was classic, and i noticed people are afraid to make world war 3 games nowadays, anyways, where can i download this at?

  • is there a pc download for this somewhere?

  • @Kriegasaurus

This can be played on a PC using a Sega CD emulator such as PicoDrive. You need the iso/rom for this.

  • where can I download this???

  • I've been playing this and I can't figure out what triggers tech advances. Do you know?

  • @concordat: To me they seem to be random.

Make sure you have developed all your weapons (Military>Develop Weapons) and also pour some money into national policies (Domestic Policy>Develop Industry)

  • I was kind of worried that they might be random.

I've been putting a steady stream of money into developing the GDP, usually just enough so it doesn't cause other domestic stats to go down.

  • you should upload more of these vids dude this game looks awesome who have you played as ? .

  • thank you for your comment.

I've played with all the countries.

fun countries to play as: Brazil, Libya, South Africa, Iraq, China, India

not-so-fun countries to play as: Australia, Canada, United States of America (boring -- have too many resources), the European nations (UK, France, Germany)

  • you should upload a guide ;) so its easy to play as the USA UK France Germany Canada and Australia what nations have the best Military and economy ? .

  • @deadeye012006: USA and Germany are easy to play because they have a nice army, good GNP, and access to weaker nations. Canada, Australia, UK aren't good by nature of their geographies. France is moderately developed.

Best military: Russia, USA, Germany, China, Israel

Best economies (GNP): USA, Japan, Russia, Germany, France

Best balanced nations: USA, Russia, Germany

  • wait was this actually a game for sega, damn they have this propaganda in everything

  • Yes this was an actual game for Sega CD. It is a geopolitical simulator.

What propaganda are you referring to? There's nothing propaganda about this game.

  • sorry your right its just symbolic

  • No S.Korea??? who has 4th best army in planet?????

  • Nope.

I'm sure the 4th best army on the planet isn't South Korea.

  • believe me, it is... some people thinks about lower ranking for S.Korea but it's minimum 6th best in planet, maximum 3rd best with China

  • The 4th best army is israel.....

  • there are france and germany...not italy?O.o

  • I guess it's not recognized as a major global player in geopolitics?

i do question certain choices of countries (like Libya), but given the technology back then, they could not include all of our favorite nations. it would've been fun to play as Iran or one of the Koreas (North/South)

  • well...you're right XD

but i think it's boring using always the same 2-3 superpowers...america,russia...

  • I only went deep into the game a few times, where you'd unlock all the end-game material, but I did beat this game with all 16 countries in all 5 scenarios.

I enjoyed being the weaker countries, especially Canada and Australia, since they offered the biggest challenge. I played this game to death as a kid!

  • lol, Lybia is a playable "superpower" while Egypt is not?? lol...

  • I guess the makers chose Libya because of its history as a nation identified or having ties to state-sponsored terrorism. I think they should have replaced Lybia with Iran. That would be a fun nation to use. Or even North Korea should've been a playable nation.

  • yeah, but still Egypt was there and participating...or maybe Burundi xD it was interesting in the time...

  • 0:54

    New world order! :O

  • Canada.. Lol.. Why would somebody play with Canada?

  • because it would be cool as shit.

  • I love Canada, beautiful country. But in this game, it's basically a crappy nation. You have the USA below and the only other way to progress is either attack the giant, or establish a base oversees, which requires a good navy, which again, Canada is disadvantaged. You have to build up its navy and that takes time and resources.

Believe me, building up Canada and then attacking the United States is so fun.

  • is there any way to get this game on PC? Or is there a game like this now?

  • technically? yes if it's a Sega CD emulator. However, this is strictly Sega CD game and it was never ported over to the PC.

Your best way to play this is to obtain a physical copy or get a ROM/ISO and then get the Sega CD emulator for the PC. Again i do NOT condone roms or isos you don't legally own. So please obtain a copy of the game legally or own it legally.

  • Is there a way to avoid retirement?? I play and save every so often after the retirement age but the game ends. If you save and reset, you can keep squeezing a few more months out? Is there a defininte end?

  • I don't think there is a way to avoid retirement. But then again I never tried to squeeze out more months -- thanks for that observation. I figure being an "eternal leader" ala Kim Il Sung gets a bit pedestrian.

  • ive never seen this game its right up my alley but i dont have sega anymore do you know if theres a pc download anywhere?

  • Download the Sega CD emulator for PC and LEGALLY obtain the file for the game. I do not condone the practice of downloading roms that you don't legally own, so if possible own the game.

  • where can I get a sega cd emulator and download the game?

  • I remember this game quite well. I had 99% for every stat, a GNP of 99999, and had used mass weapons on every remaining power. Yeah, I spent a lot of time on this game. :-P

  • Well it's good to see a real fan of this game. There's nothing wrong with spending a lot of time on this game. I've plunked down many many hours on the game too but not to the point of 99999 and 99% stat. i didn't think that was possible. most of my games ended with me winning the scenario or by retirement.

  • If you conquer 50 or so states (but not more since too many will give you a "military victory") and have around 40 or so economic monopolies, your influx of funds per month will be around 1000. That, and 8 command points, means you can do quite a bit. FYI, I was only able to accomplish that with Germany.

  • Interesting. Yes i've played with Germany but i've always ended up in a military victory.

Thanks for this. We need more comments like yours from fans of the game.

  • I have come close to similar results, though by using the Soviet Union/ Russia. I have to admit though, I have played the game so much that my proudest moment was actually not related to winning the game at all but actually when I made China the second highest GDP in the world starting in the Cold War scenario. That took so much time and strategic investment (taking advantage of the random months when a certain minimum investment would yield twice what it normally did). I love this game.

  • Nice. I did the same with China too! China's fun to lead. One of the first things I like to do is to overrun the Korean peninsula and retake Taiwan.

  • You have to keep your buffer states you know. China is a fun, balanced medium difficult state to start the game. Japan, oddly, I have never had much success with, outside of building some of sort of Asian sphere. Canada and Australia also seem unfairly worthless. I tried to build a Canadian empire and got laughed all the way back to Ottawa.

  • Japan is a mighty dragon in WAR OF THE PACIFIC POWERS. I had fun destroying the United States with them. Without the staging ground in Peru it is very difficult to win against the United States.

And yes, Canada and Australia are as useful as a pimple on a butt. Australia really can't get anything going. I just try to invade Africa since it's the weakest but really it's at a disadvantage. Canada -- hah. don't get me started with that.

Thanks for your comments. Good times, good times.

  • Ha~!

  • I think the A.I. in this game may have been programmed by default to always attack Saudi Arabia since it is closer and its army is pretty weak. You'll also notice that Libya will attack Egypt by default. If you are Israel you might fall victim to the A.I. when it attacks Egypt. If both you and the A.I. attack Egypt at the same time, you will always have your invasion cancelled and override by the A.I.

  • Awesome game! BTW why does Saudi Arabia always gets attacked in every Third World War senario by Iraq and they always win?

  • superpower 2 is better

  • well it better be. this game came out earlier than Superpower 2. and i mean EARLIER. I think for a world simulator it was very good for its time and the system. Your opinion is akin to that of "Legend of Zelda Link To The Past is better than Legend of Zelda on NES". of course it looks and plays nicer, but the first Zelda was great for its time. So Third World War to me is better than Superpower 2.

  • Absolutely beef, unfair comparison.

That is like saying, "well you know, the honda accord is much better than the ford model t."

  • Thank you fredlburrows! Good example!

  • lol the virus in japan at the begining was probably the t virus from resident evil lol

  • 这是什么游戏啊?

    what is game?

  • 3Q Thank you!

    我看你日文里的汉字 勉强理解了

I see you in Japanese characters barely understood

  • 虽然是日文,但大概意思还是懂了。一款综合性很强的即使战略游戏。

  • You seem to know a lot about this game, you should write the first ever guide.

  • I just started playing this one. As US, I occupy Libya, Iraq, West and East Africa, and Cuba. US has good relations with the rest of the world except S.Africa who kicks my ass out of Somalia and Ethiopia. I lost my 11 aircraft carriers and most of the army. GNP is in 7000 range compared to S.Africa's puny 600. Only problem I have with this game so far is the pre-battles that you can't control and the fact that aircraft carriers are extremely expensive. Fun little game though.

  • If you dominate a country by force, is it worth it to also take control of their markets? Is the GNP boost decent or not worth it?

  • It all depends on what nation you use, the scenario you're in, or goal you are attaining. I think it's much more difficult to dominate economically than militarily - so there's a challenge. but if you were speaking in terms of the rewards, then I believe it is worth it economically dominating a country's markets. Yes, it's minimal, but it does add money to your budget, especialy if you are not focusing on shoring up your nation's GNP.

  • ok but still dont know how i should make money

  • it all depends on what nation you choose. it's easy to make money by just conquering and economically dominating a country. USA and Russia have it easy as they have a high GNP and big military. Germany is a nice medium-sized nation that can easily dominate too. China has a low GNP but again, can easily become a power by militarily and economically dominating its Asian neighbors.

Again, either take over a nation or invest (spend money) in your nation's GNP.

  • and what does gpn mean ?

  • There is no such thing as "gpn" in the game. Do you mean "GNP"? GNP stands for "Gross National Product" - a measure of a nation's wealth. The higher the nation's GNP in the game, the greater income you get. The United States of America and Japan have the highest GNPs in the game, thus have a much higher budget available.

  • question i have this game but dont any idea how to play it is there a guide anywhere ?

  • there's no guide anywhere. just ask your question and I will answer it.

  • ok how do i boost the economy and how to i get money ?

  • To boost your national economy you have to invest in it. If you go to DOMESTIC POLICY you choose the DEVELOP INDUSTRY and invest money. Depending on how much you put in, your GNP grows, thus your economy grows. Alternatively, conquering nations and economically dominating a country adds to your GNP.

  • i would buy this if they had it on xbox 360

  • did you buy this game in japan?

where did you get this game?it's cool.

  • No I did not buy this game in Japan. This is a U.S. NTSC game so it was purchased in the United States of America. I bought it at a local game store more than 14 years ago. I also bought the Japanese version -- same thing but in Japanese language and some of the weapon names differ slightly.

I'm glad you think the game is cool. it is cool and it's fun to play! I highly recommend it if you have Sega CD.

  • Do they sell it in Canada because I'm in Canada not U.S.

  • Do you have an eBay account? I see one up for auction where they will ship to Canada for $7.50. Make the seller an offer since it's Best Offer auction.

I don't think there's any place in Canada that would have it. It is an old sega cd game. most if not all sega cd games would be in the hands of private collectors.

i do recommend eBay if you really need to get a physical copy. PM me if you need help finding.

  • I'm only nine years old of course i don't have a eBay account my dad has. But he only used it once i will ask him to buy me the game on my birthday.

  • i loved this game,my dad mastered this!

  • wish I still had sega lol

  • wow games like this and way better out there!! 1. superpower 2! 2. geopolitical simulator

  • Finally a video with this game. I spent many night staying up way too late playing this!

    Awesome!

  • Right on! I too spent many hours on this game. too bad there aren't many fans of this niche/cult game.

  • Look into Superpower and Superpower 2 for the PC. Not to shabby!

  • i noticed you tried to do trade agreements. do they really bring in any extra income? i havent really noticed a change whenever i've got them

  • Trade agreements do bring in extra income; $5 billion to your national budget. but i don't think you will see the rewards until the beginning of the next calender year. the most important things i found that boosts your income are 1) economically dominating a nation/region 2) GNP

If you're not dominating economically, then at least boost up your nation's GNP.

  • ah thanks for that.

i need some clarification about dominating a nation. if say it takes me $80 billion to take it under my control and you only get $800 million a month from it, it takes literally years to cover the cost of that investment. does it really pay off to invest so much to economically dominate a country? And $80billion is a conservative estimate. I've had to spend a lot more than that on occasion.

  • It does pay off in the long run to economically dominate a nation. but the old adage applies: it takes money to make money. It'll take a nice amount of turns (years) to see results.

Easiest way to economically dominate a nation is occupation; assuming no other foreign investment is there. that's why in the scenario ECONOMIC STRUGGLE the easiest way to win is to attack nations before foreign investment arrives.

if you're concerned about money then focus on the domestic front - boost your GNP.

  • You need to post more of these. Only one so fat and this was the best game I can remember.
