It's funny that you say that. Electioneering was actually the first Radiohead song that I heard. I fell in love with it and it opened me up to the world of Radiohead. It certainly is a different song, but I think it's pretty powerful. Plus, the release of the album was during the 1998 presidential candidacy. I'm glad the album was made the way it was and I'm even more elated that this B-Side found the light of day because it is very good.
Yeah this could have opened on the album, just listen .....you can can hear Airbag kickin in after the 1-2 sec delay between tracks...@*%"£$^ perfect. Perfect anyways but you can add to perfect.
good they didn't put it on OK Computer, would not have fitted very well with the actual album but on a bonus dics and on a EP it is a master song. I like it alot.
@Pandemonium44 I don't know if I agree with your first assertion. I think it would have fit in very comfortably between "Fitter Happier" and "Climbing up the Walls."
@psylcaycau I put it right after Subterranean Homesick Alien and before Exit Music (For A Film). Sounds great and makes a 13 track album which is oddly appropriate.
Palo Alto serves as a central economic focal point of the Silicon Valley, and is home to more than 6,000 businesses employing more than 98,000 people. It's the home of Hewlett Packard and many other internet based companies, such as Facebook and Photobucket.
Born in Palo Alto at Stanford University Hospital.Though I never been back and have lived in Los Angeles since age 4,I am proud to be a Palo Alto native!Home of facebook,Hewlett-Packard,Standford,etc.
This song reminds me of the people who invented facebook and how they moved to palo alto after the site got big. I relate to the singer. He feels he's on the edge of something Orwellian but he's so insecure he can't take astance because everything and everybody seem so nice.
This video was aired on 1999. Directed by Grant Gee. Grant Gee directed also "Toilet Trouble" radiohead video. Hopefully, somebody will upload it on Youtube, since I want to have all the radioheadvideo youtube links, in my humble blog

Wait.. If the album is perfectly timed, how could another song have been better? I love everything off of "Airbag/How am I Driving?", but there's a reason they got cut from the album.
i hate airbag/how am i driving?.. it gets me to sleep, and i love electioneering, it has an amazing guitar, something that sometimes the rest of the album lacks
Ah man, Pearly* and A Reminder are amazing songs! Not to mention Polyethylene (Parts 1 + 2) and Palo Alto. I'm not fussed on Melatonin, but really, for a collection of B-Sides they are pretty damn awesome.
Palo Alto is where big tech companies HQs are: Xerox, blah blah blah. Others. They just went to one of them (Thom and co.) and, um, he wrote the song?
Does anybody know why they renamed this song to "Palo Alto"? All I know about Palo Alto is that it is where the Stanford is and it is outside San Fran...
I don't get why it is a B-side, I think the song is much better than subteranean homesick alien....this song had to be on OKC....anyway, radiohead is amazing!!!
this song was gona b on ok computer as the title track! but it never made the final cut, they changed the name from 'ok computer' to 'palo alto' and it ended up on the 'airbag/how am i driving' EP + was a B-side. but yeah, its awesome!

The mark of a truly great band is when their b-sides are better than most band's singles.
Yeah this should have been on OK Computer, but it's quite difficult to place it when you know the album running order inside out!

i disagree, because electioneering fits in with the British middle-class alienation theme of the album. where as Palo Alto is in california.
