"A joint African Union/United Nations Hybrid operation in Darfur was authorized by Security Council resolution 1769 of 31 July 2007. The Council, acting under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter....
, authorized UNAMID to take necessary action to support the implementation of the Darfur Peace Agreement, as well as to protect its personnel and civilians, without "prejudice to the responsibility of the Government of Sudan". The Council decided that UNAMID shall start implementing its mandated tasks no later than 31 December 2007."
Well explain to me why the Canadian Armed Forces just loaned 105 AVGPs (Armoured Vehicle General Puropse) to the African Union Forces? There is also a small Canadian team teaching the AU troops how to operate these vehicles as well. DARFUR is on its way to liberation. See, you send in AU troops becuase its their own matter, when that fails and it will, the pressure for U.N. forces will be high enough to crack the Sudanese government. Just my opinion.
The UN has just given China's PLA troops an AWARD for their efforts in peacekeeping in Darfur, Sudan.
