This is Mairead Hickey from Cork. She is now 15 and has won the All-Ireland fiddle competition 8 times. She also plays classical music and is the National Concert Hall Young Musician of the year 2011/2012. She has has a brilliant app out for teaching irish fiddle! It is called 'Irish Fiddler' and is great for anyone starting out and children! :)

Firstly I'd like to say HOLY FUCK! She's amazing. And her style is fantastic. She seems to be enjoying herself and willing to let the tune breath. She plays with feeling which, at 9 years old, is pretty insane!!

Secondly, the tunes are: The Gold Ring, The Killimor (a Sean Ryan number) and The Contradiction Reel.

Thirdly, would she possibly from the Murphy family of Kerry (i.e. Donal Murphy the accordion player with Four men & Dog)?

:3 Nicely done! A little more bow tilt and relaxed bow hold and you could increase your tone and lessen some of the squeak/scratching. In the end however, I think you deserve a step up on your next instrument, you have much more you could discover and do if you didn't have to fight your instrument quite so much.
