I just watched Beyond the Sea - I just love this movie. Every time I see that it is on - I stop on it. I just love this song. Kevin Spacey did a wonderful job... I remember watching that movie the first time and ended up searching You Tube for more Bobby. And it is sort of funny, I did it again today. I was 20 when he left us, I remember how sad I was. I was always a fan!
I think Bobby did what he set out to to: "My goal is to be remembered as a human being and as a great performer."
saw the Kevin Spacey movie this morning, so naturally I had to go to You tube to get not just more but the original. Though I was only 15 when he left I became a fan and loved his style and originality.
I am moved, inspired, and energized now after researching for hours of his life. I have included my 8 year old daughter with his story, music, beliefs and we are now better because of him. His spirit lives decades after his death. How strange, I was 8 when he died and knew nothing of him, but now I teach my daughter of 8 his story and she can remember his greatness, and possibly benefit from them. Memories are like moon beams, memories never die, and Bobby lives on!!! I will teach others of him
I sure hear you there, You know I Wil be 70 this summer and I was born with the start of Rock and Roll and the Muscle cars throw in a couple of girls and a six pack and what else would anybody want LMAO
Amazing. I'm saying the same thing as others, but that song could have been written today. Amazing what a gift one man can bring. Very important not to let TV dumb down our entertainment by replacing true talent with Reality crap.
Growing up on a collage campus during this time period was an early lesson in activism. I remember huge crowds of student's marching or "sitting in" singing this song and many like it. It truly was a national anthem. Thanks for posting it.
It's amazing how we've grown more apart from this time, and you would've thought that we would be closer. Fuck this technology stint and let's get back to basics! And, understood, this is how I'm relaying my message, is by the way of technology, but I think we need to go beyond this medium. The way they did it in this age. Face to face.
I had never seen Bobby sing this song before. It's terrific. After watching Spacey in "Beyond the Sea" recently, I had to see some original Darin tunes. What a treat. Thanks so much for posting this.
he was the best of two different genres of music he was a brilliant singer!! :'( frank sinatra was his idol and he was just like him i love bobby darin and wich there was sombody like him today :(
What a great song!....I think I'm going to add this to my live setlist, as it seems to be a time people really need to hear this...btw, live music with meaning AND feeling is alive and well in Seattle!
My first thought of Bobby is Mack the Knife - that *** song would get stuck in my head for weeks. OTOH this has alway been one of my favorites. The Canadian group The Bells also recorded a fine version of it.
@redsled3 i know this but cars nowdays arent american muscle. im restoring a 78 firebird, a 70 monte carlo, a 70 c-10, and a 57 ford f250 with a buddy of mine. im all about the classic cars and im only 16.
@lslb2010 Nice choice of cars!!!!!!!! I started on cars and built my first engine at 13 years old, I am 68 and will be 69 in May but I still do all my own mechanics and pull and rebuild my own engines I have a new one ready to sit in the 58 onh the stand right now. I am very glad to see the younger peole take interest in the older cars. Not the rice burners.:) Can't wait till I can go out to the track anp put the pedal to the metal and go down the 1320 feet track.:)
@redsled3 I don't understand Bobby's comments where he says he wrote the song and TIM HARDIN RECORDED IT FIRST. Did Darin Not record it first and release the song commercially before Hardin?
@tenniscollector Bobby Darin was a singer (Pop singer in 50s, 60s) and a song writer. He wrote and published several songs (if not many) that were hits for other singers. When he "reinvented himslef" in support of the Vietnam anti-war movement he recorded this song as part of his new image
I absolutely love this song :-) It periodically pops in my head and I just have to hear it. The clarity in his voice for a live performance is truly beautiful.
@unusedhero Almost sounds like Bonnie Bramlett (if I spelled the last name correctly), but I don't think it was her. At that time, she was doing backup for Joe Cocker and Eric Clapton (as was Rita Coolidge).
@BreatherBoy You've got that right. Lot of people don't know how great of entertainer he was. Passed at an early age, had a Heart problem at birth. God bless him he is missed. I am an old man of 68 but I grew up in the same era of all the old rock and rollers , and when the muscle era started,. man who could ask for anything more. Bob
@BreatherBoy You know it is strange but some peple don't know how great an artist is or was untill he was gone. Bobby was one of the greatest and what an Intertainer:)
Does anyone know the name of the female singer? She has a great voice and I want anything else she has recorded.
