How would you produce the note of f# on your flute if it is tuned to the key of c?Also, how do you know how long to make the flute? What note do you tune it to to get the final length? I know how to find the positioning of each of the notes, but how do you find the length of the tube? I have checked all of your videos and your website and have found no luck. If you could answer these questions I would be immensely great full. Thank-you so much!
I can see how practicing on pvc makes a lot of sense- but when I figure it out, I'm definitely going to use wood. That's something I've got plenty of in the pacific northwest- bamboo grows like a weed here, there's no end of it. I'm enjoying your videos, I'll probably watch them all...very explanatory for someone like myself who hasn't studied music but wants to learn. And you have ridiculously good hair;-)
@rockfreakinsolid thanks to you I now understand why my stone (serpentine) flute refuses to make music- the mouthpiece is cut wrong, with flat sides so the breath can't 'vibrate' in and out- but I know a stoneworker who can fix it-yay!
@fgv1977 what an assumption! jerk! Not everyone is comfortable in front of a camera. I play chromatic harmonicas and can get totally lost in my music, and even converse freely at my harmonica club and conventions - but the second I'm onstage - or in front of a camera everything changes, and I simply don't like being focused upon. It's called 'growing up shy' or 'not being a self-centered jackass' (like you, in other words). He still imparts great info - if one bothers to listen.
@coyotecrow4 - modifications to how you direct your breath, how constrictive or free-flowing your breath stream is from your lips, or movement of the tongue inside your mouth while blowing and other such things can contribute to that, actually, as well as to other effects.
@rockfreakinsolid embouchure? Not sure if you call it the same thing as when playing harmonica? I'm fascinated by this since I love Native American flute music - but I'd rather be able to buy a cedar flute. I just don't have the tools or skills to build one. Love the idea, though - since I do other DIY hobbies/crafts.

Huh, alternating compression/vacuum effect. Is that what gives 'em that nice warbling sound?
