No, he's not. I saw a clip of him jamming recently and he was horribly out of key and in way over his head because he has little understanding of theory. His playing has stagnated and regressed, not progressed. There are a ton of guitarists that would utterly smoke him......guys like Petrucci, Steve Morse, Satch.
good point. but i dont entirely agree. i think eddie has a lot of understanding of theory just not as much as most (good guitarists) have. hees never had music or guitar lessons though. other than occasional piano lessons when he was very Yong. eddies playing style is in a category of ts own. its very hard to compare him to other guitarists because his style is much different .
it's good to see people not bashing Eddie's current playing for once. it amazes me going to other videos and seeing people saying eddie doesn't have it anymore or eddie can't play anymore. the fact is even when he's not 100 percent healthy(drug problems/alcohol/etc.) eddie van halen is still better than 95 percent of other guitarists out there
I know Michael was an oriinal member but on the live dvd i got everyone gets a solo piece and Alex, Eddie, and Sammy all do a good quality piece but Michael just runs around like an idiot banging his bass and trying his hardest to look out of control. wtf ?
how old are you? you'll find as you get older none of us can do what we did as good as when we were youner. it doesn't matter he changed heavy metal the way the beatles changed rock n roll.
WOW... now thats EVH....mind blowing, awe inspiring, edge of the envelope, he is LASER sharp here, honestly at his best, ed continue to blow minds and push music and show all younger bands everthing music can be if played at its absolute maximum and beyond and if you are geniunely dedicated to it :)
I was almost directly across from you in section 106. Show rocked and yes it was VERY loud! Nothing better!! My wife had never seen Halen live, needless to say, she dug it big time. Rush at Mandalay Bay May 10th is next!!!
