@Tobolococo it was imaginary so they weren't native americans really, but they could have been. i forget the ending but this entire movie was to watch and forge your own ideas..perhaps the main reason why he chose not to fight was so that they would spare the child if he sacrificed himself.
I had trouble interpreting this movie, to be honest it seems like the film was created out of smite for Christianity. I liked the movie, it tugged at my emotions. One question though, are the people at the end native americans, or mouris?
@hero0fwar native americans... and i liked that spiteful innuendo on Christianity... was refreshing..... no true V(w)iking would have ever bruised his knees just because some quack in a dress told him it was the truthful path to follow
that movie made me think about the old myth amon the one eyed god who fights evil everyday.that this guy is like the one who receives messages from god(thats why he's psychic and see's the future)like he was the buddha, the krishna, the christ(i think all the same person) at that time or era.and at the end the indians kill him and don't realise this act will lead them to their eventual doom.
Mads Mikkelsen, he stared in king arthur(2004). i wanted to see more of him after that. he has that thing that people want to see, whatever that thing is he's got it.
Funny how people are arguing over a matter of opinion. If you didn't like the movie, too bad. If you did, great. "It sucked" "Nu-uh" "Ya" "No" childish really.
@scmthrasher: Ok cool I will look that up! You know there is so much genetic code in the UK from us that have been there fr generations (less and lessby the day I might add) Geneology in my family is very coastal and Northern despite my being born in the SE. I am blue eyed and blond and so is my mother who's family go back a long long way in Aberdeen where we know the Nords men landed! its fascinating! thats probably why I was down on the movie as was probably expecting more.. Mads a good actor
@scmthrasher: Well I only mentioned Vikings as the stories title gives credence to it. Looking at it again the soldiers were merc converted to teh cause of God and on their way to the holy land. I do find the subject matter v interesting and how these vikings made it so far is pretty incredible. I just think its frustrating that the film maker wernt this way but that was his choice, I just didnt like it. I would love to see 50% of this approach and 50% full on Holywood that would be interesting
@choffle33 interesting perhaps a budget was also involved in altering the story as happens to alot of good "stories" not movies as stpries turn into movies....check out the story the smokey gods
@enginetai one eye is succesful in battle that can seem like a virtue at a time when you live watching youre friends die, the only detail about the people at the end is in the credits where they are reffered as indians perhaps they had sailed to the north east coast of america
@scmthrasher Again good question, we know the vikings got that far! however I never knew Vikings were Irish & Scots, or most especially Christians!>..!!!!! Where did they start of from!, as I said before its all very well if you have complete historic knowledge of this period in history however if you dont then you are having to make far to many assumptions!
@choffle33 yes interesting but im not sure if i would consider the christians vikings but its how ever you want to define viking... i define it as pre christian nordic... and most dictionaries say anyone who participated in scandinavian raids from about 800-1100ad. i think the most interesting part of this movie is very over looked. the part were they drink fresh water.... theres an interesting norwegian tale about this...look into "the smokey gods"
@choffle33 I just saw the movie, and I thought when they asked the boy where is one eye from he said from across the ocean. Which I took as from the Viking lands. I think maybe the other guys (The Christian Crusaders were suppose to be Scottish), but One Eye himself was suppose to be the Viking. I absolutely loved the movie, but I have no idea what the ending was suppose to mean. Was he giving his life to save the boy hence the chapter title "sacrifice"? Why didn't he fight the Natives?
@Jaipur77 Oh... ok good info tx, yes I was annoyed by the ending! he just sacrificed himself, thats ok but it left to much open for me!...2 confusing! :) .....:(
@choffle33 i think at the end he sacrifice his self like Jesus did and humanity or the boy could live another day, even thou he is a child and would not be able to sustain his survival which i think symbolizes the human species own existence.
People who don't like it are usually just impatient or so used to cliched, hollywood action movies that they can't apprechiate beautiful triumphs like this film
The only people that didn't like Valhalla Rising are mindless degenerates who don't know how to interpret things by themselves without the help from a narrator or dialog blatantly stating it.
@AOTS210 what a load of bullshit man, perhaps the film was just boring, i mean you can't say i don't like films that have a deep meaning because i like Donnie Darko but seriously people might just think this film is a waste of money like me so just stop chatting out your ass and keep it to yourself.
@AOTS210 I just bought Valhalla Rising... not watched yet but read so many bad reviews about it all over the internet. But then one stood out and basically said what you said about people being mindless. Only seen the trailer, but from what I've read, it sounds quite thought provoking. I am definately looking forward to watching it!
@scmthrasher Silence! ref his reply to you,I think that says it all! This movie was souless drivel, how can you interpret from that which is blind and vacuous!
@scmthrasher Well i interpreted a lot. Odin had one eye, he made the sacrifice for wisdom. I also took a different view on the whole hell aspect. If i remember right, in norse mythology, hel was the ruler of The underworld Niflheim. Niflheim was a misty place. I believe it was half mist half nice, but it was the land of the dead. Go to hell meant go die basically. Niflheim was also across the ocean So to speak. Educate youself. Then start barking up the question tree.
@bzimmie i just think this movie didnt have much of a story too it and noit much of a budget so they made up for it by using alot of silent slow mo scenes so people would watch it and say its art and people who dont like it say its cause they dont understand, there is a couple cool things in this movie but i think the most interesting is over looked but youd really have to educate yourself on some old norse stories to catch it, the fresh water when they are sailing... look up "the smokey god"
@AOTS210 Oh come on!.... This was a film that went overboard ref its lack of direction, script and storyline. It's the over embellished spawn of an indulgent film maker who simply asked the PAYING audience to work everything out!. It’s almost as if you have to have a complete knowledge of that timeline in order to fill in the gaps. I have watched thousands of movies that challenge and evoke thought, this did neither!. How do you interpret what is beyond interpretation?
@choffle33 Pick your poison. Its like music pal. Some people like music lyrics that are open to self interpretation. Others like the straight forward hey i did drugs i like boobs lyrics. I enjoyed the movie. The scenes evoked a lot of thought and emotion. Apples and oranges man, if you don't like it don't trash everyone else that does and beg for their reason. We made our interpretations. No one can help you with yours. Obviously you're more of a surface level thinker.
@choffle33 Think of it like this. Take a painter for example. I guarantee if you sit next to a painter and talk to him about what colors hes sees where, hes going to see probably three times the color you do. Not because his eyesight is better, but because he has that kind of thinking he notices things in different detail. Like most people draw lines where artists draw form.
@bzimmie Indeed art is subjective so we do not always see the same thing, if we did art would be dead and so its up to the artists to bear the responsibility of praise of indifference ref their work without curtailing their momentum. I have a chance to work with someone known here in Dubai soon, let's see!
@AOTS210 Negative, fuckstick. The movie was BORING... BORING AS ALL FUCK. Fuck interpretation, you have to actually SIT THROUGH THE HALF HOUR LONG SESSIONS WHERE NOTHING AT ALL IS SAID OR DONE... It's a dull fucking film. Bottom line, the fight scenes were the only thing that made the movie even remotely bearable. The movie sucked.
@AOTS210 ja du er fandme bare sådan en selvfed filosof type.. hurra for det nar.. Se mig jeg tænker så meget over tingene at jeg ender med at blive idiot af det.. hurra hurra..
@AOTS210 wow sir, you are a pretentious snob if I've ever met one.The fact that people have differing opinions doesn't mean that one is a "mindless degenerate" and the other is some high level connoisseur.I don't like impressionist paintings.Does that make me ignorant? No, I just appreciate different things in life.If the film Exit Through the Gift Shop has taught us anything,it is that there is far to much snobbery in the art world. The image of seeming "high level" holds far to much merit imo.
hes talking about the great unwashed. You know all the shit movies out there, and shit music, and shit art. Most of it therefore, all the people that laugh and cheer when he said theres lots of killing, you know, fn morons, the world is full of them.
