Without a doubt this is one of the most ironic songs these ears have ever heard. What the singer is saying is not what they are giving the child. This has incredible effect on the melody. Great, great song.
I don't think this song is perfect, if we are going to talk about perfection meybe the song You Oughta Know or Uninvited, in this one I think she is just singing about perfection :)))
I have always been of the notion that "Jagged Little Pill" was one of the best albums of the last 20 years and this song was my fav'. What a talented lady.
what are some of you talking about? this song is, as some others have said, about the pressure on a boy, because his parents want him to be perfect because they want to be always proud of him, on the other hand his sister can't be as good as her brother, she can't make feel her parents proud of her.
oops! sorry I forgot about that, you've done a great job on this video, she always looks awesome and you showed that on this video. It's as good as the song, that's why I rated it with 5 stars.
thanks =] im kinda used to people going off topic though, im having an argument with someone who feels the need to tell me im insane because i dont actuallt want to put chris crocker in a blender and eat him on toast as many seem to. it's amusing. the maturity is immense!
everyone here is crap at interpreting lyrics. this song is more about parenting and has nothing to do with religion or disorders. this song is about soccer moms and little league dads, who are more focused on their own demands and aspirations for the child rather than their happiness and unique situation.
Being Catholic does NOT mean you have a "Rescricted up-bringing."
This song is just about the how kids and teens think they are expected to be perfect. Which sometimes CAN include eating disorders. So don't say that it has nothing to do with eating disorders. you have NO idea what it's like.
So yes, you may be right. It's about being expected to always do better, and it wasn't specifically about eating disorders, but it could be included.
whoever you are imlovinit2011, we aint diggin at catholics, but alanis said herself she's always had the "catholic guilt" thing. it's kinda imbedded in you.
and no one is trying top say we're experts on eating disorders, but this song, im sfraid to say, has nothing to do them.
you can interpert a song whatever fucking way you want. dont you ever tell someone their opinion is wrong. thats such an asshole thing to do, it really is.
i hope one day something means the world to you and then someone comes along and tells you its not what you thought and you cant take the same meaning from it anymore. really, i do. go burn in judgemental hell.
who the hell has time to actually carry this argument on? grow up! i dont come on here to have fights with hypersensitive half-wits. if you want a debate, join a society or something. LOSER
people who were touched. and i swear to god i will kick your ass. dont tell me IM the loser. if you wanted to end the arguement, you could have just not replied.
The song that was about an eating disorder was Mary Jane. This song is about, as Violet said, being brought up Catholic and being expected to be perfect. I know how that is... Love the song, it's fantastic. She's definately someone I look up to.

it's not about eating disorders. it's about being brought up as a catholic girl and having a restricted up-bringing.
