This song reminds me of the day we confessed each other... we were old, good friends, she was hurt because of her ex and was scared of loving again. I told her that I would never, ever hurt her in the tinniest bit, that I was willing to make everything perfect with her... soon, we were the perfect couple.

And? She left me a couple of weeks ago. She said she doesn't love me anymore, for reasons I don't yet fully understand. She was my everything...

@deadlifter77 I guess you are only half right...Sure they sound almost identical. But I believe the real inspiration for smashing pumpkins is new order - "love vigilantes" as you may know that NO is a big influence on Billy Corgan. It may apply to whipping boy, too. So, I would rather say both of them rip off new order. And maybe whipping boy ripped off more since they used it as the main signature riff in this song.

the original music video was actually the sequal to the song "1979" with the same cast with the exception of one (in jail). sure, maybe its a bit depressing, but it is still a very well-done music video nonetheless.
