  • we're going hoppin lol!

  • Is the first line actually "WERE GOING HUMPING...?"

  • My school is performing this song

  • If my old fogey memory serves me correctly, Barry performed this number at the music awards and the following weekend Dick Clark opened the show with it from that point forward.

  • I wonder what ever happened to the different podiums that Dick stood behind when the sets were changed from decade to decade? Just wondering what became of the different podiums, as well as the big AB logo that hung from the ceiling in the ABC Studio in Los Angeles when the show moved to L.A. :)

  • This is by far the BEST opening into that they used....

  • Great song! You know, Barry Manilow is about as unfashionable as any singer can get, but he recorded a hot number here. The interesting thing is that he slowed the tempo somewhat from the original Les Elgart "Bandstand Boogie," which was superior by far. But by doing that, Manilow managed to create a far more danceable number.

  • i love this song...but i never knew it was that old...lol im 21 but this is a really good song. i dont care what anyone says!

  • @bballgirlj955 My 16 yr old loves this song. She was just a baby in her walker and when the show would come on she's go over to the TV and just stare at it. Then she started to do the "bandstand boogie" LOL.

  • @bballgirlj955 94.7 in chicago dick bondia played this two weeks ago

  • @t7204

    Dick Biondi a Chicago legend!!!

  • Barry Manilow was so talented.. Still to this day, has a great voice!

  • I loved when after Dick Clark gives out the itinerary for the musical guests stars and before going to a commercial, he would say and point to the logo sign: "American...

    2:43 - BANDSTAND!!!

...and the dancers would point at the sign too.

  • It's Got A Great Beat and You Can Really Dance To It!

  • Barry Manilow is a genius. That is all.

  • A Definite Keeper!! September 1977 was the first time that "American Bandstand" used the "Bandstand Boogie" Theme for the show's opening credits -- on behalf of Barry Manilow -- on ABC Television. A Spectacular 12!!

  • Sounds so much like Saturdays growing up :)

  • This was the closing theme from late 76- late 77 when it became the opening and closing theme in late 77'

  • @rufus317 I thought they used the closing theme around late 1975-early 1976.

  • @tyrese3745 Yes they used Barry's song as the closing theme from late 1975 to around 1987. They didn't use Barry's song as the opening theme until 1977. Before that they used the moog version.

  • @qr11k They played it half a step lower than on the record to open the show, but the closing was played at this tone.

  • Wasn't the tune originally from the '40's? People forget Mainilow was an arranger as well as a performer; he's the man who put Bette Midler in the top-40 with his arrangement of "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy".

  • American Bandstand is Videotaped @ ABC Television Center in Hollywood, CA

The home to Break the Bank w/Tom Kennedy & Jack Barry, Barney Miller, That's My Mama, SOAP, Benson, General Hospital, Password w/Allen Ludden, The Dating Game w/Jim Lange, The Newlywed Game w/Bob Eubanks, Trivia Trap w/Bob Eubanks, Bruce Forsyth Hot Streak, The Better Sex w/Sarah Purcell & Bill Anderson, Double Talk w/Henry Polic II, Married with Children and of course, Family Feud w/The KING Richard Dawson

  • American Bandstand is a TRUE TV Classic

The show Pave the Way for the likes of Soul Train, Solid Gold, Club MTV, Dance Party USA and of course, America's Top 10, Video Soul, MTV and VH1

Dick Clark is Da Man and he's Pave the Way for other TV Music Hosts like Don Cornelius, Dionne Warwick, Marilyn McCoo, Downtown Julie Brown, Princess, Donnie Simpson, Sherry Carter, Rachel, Daisy Fuentes, Martha Quinn and of course, Casey Ksaem

God Bless Mr. Clark and this is BETTER than American Idol

  • I wonder who actually designed the American Bandstand logo so they could make the big logo that used to hang in the studio in Los Angeles where they done the show in it's later years?

  • by the way how'd u get the logo

  • @willjarmon I redraw the logo from my computer. Im a graphic designer.
