Holyoke is the victim of Massachusetts tax and business laws, as are the surrounding towns. Get a good look at those buildings (before the owners torch em) because there is no economical reason for them to exist. Holyoke is run by state hand-outs and "programs", populated by pensioners and poor people. Even the Puerto Rican people are leaving as they become more affluent. Holyoke is the "Detroit" of Western Massachusetts. Rest in Peace.
If you could 'reclaim' the buildings and 'keep' them for the city with the lazy landlords out of the picture, it would be more of an inducement to help out these buildings. If you could take space, rent free, and be creative with it, it would really be an incentive. If you could get skilled industry types to come and live rent free in exchange for expertise and skills, it would really be different and a way to get a small town and it's people working again. Holyoke could be a 'reality show'.
This is interesting, since I live in Salem NH-very close to Lawrence, Lowel and Haverhill. They're all trying to 'rehab' and revitalize old buildings like this.

Downtown Holyoke USED to be a good place until a certain element was allowed to infest it and ruin it. "Our Roots", that's a joke.

Nice video. It would be wonderful to save these historic buildings. It would be a shame to have them only in photographs.

Good video. All of those abandoned buildings are a wasted potential resource. What a shame.
