Put the focus on your pick up that's closest to the bottom of the guitar. Go to your amp, put 'low' full blast, 'mid' at the middle, and 'high' full blast.
Yeah the 7th string helps a fair bit, having the thicker guage of string. Even on my shithouse amp I can get that crunchy sound easy (that and the fact it has EMGs). So the solution is simple enough, get a seven string!
I prefer nearly every shape (except V... its a bitch to play if u r sitting) but it should be made from mahagony. But my favs are still SG and Razorback :P

no schecter has a HUGE variety of 6 strings, and so does every company i listed, but Agiles, for 650$(ibanez are nearly 1250) u get a GREAT quality guitar with ebony fretboards and emgs 707 and theres variety in them like normal shape, V.s and X, check em out, googlr rondomusic
MAN Slipknot is deffently falls under Metal, but not Death Metal. Alot of different genres of metal are to do with song structure, but thats not it, its alot of little differences too. Slipknot would be a mixture of things. It all depends on the album with them.

trivium are a good bunch of musicians, but not good artists. Theyre not doing anything new, these are all repeated formulas. If you look at a band like Mastodon, theyre doing something innovative and new. Metallica did experiment quite a bit with their sound too, compare Master of Puppets to Load or Reload. I know that metalhead purists hate Load and Reload, but they were solid hard-rock albums and Metallica showed the breadth of their skills as songwriters, well James and Lars did.
new isnt always good. putting iron tires on a car would be something new but would ultimatly be terrible. metallica ruined themselves after a while for to much experimenting. im not defending trivium i like select songs. but metal isnt about experimenting with new sounds new would also be playing out of tune. but it dosnt mean its good. its about expression and creativity. metal heads need to support each other not knock em, cause they dont care what we think they do it for money or thierself

Any respectable music critic out there will tell you that Mastodon is one of the most innovative and talented metal bands out there right now. What Trivium are doing now has already been done by tons of bands in the last 30 years. They might be decent at playing their instruments, but no way are they as innovative as mastodon

Take Petrucci, and Malmsteen, 2 of the greatest guitar heroes ever.....they focus mainly on solos but they constantly play the samething. Yngwie can solo and throw out sweep arps all day but almost every song he plays is in A minor pentatonic, and Petrucci won't move past D minor pentatonic, and phrygian. My own instructer says they're trash now cuz they can't get past that point. So back off lil kid

Bleeding me is one of their most innovative songs ever, the riffs in it and the general feel of the song is very experimental actually. i agree dude, but sometimes when they speed up a song live, especially when it's a groove based song (ex. "gunshot to the head of trepidation"), it butchers it and i think that might compound the perceived "sloppiness"
I like both Trivium and Children of Bodom. Alexi, Matt and Corey are all awesome guitarists. But when it comes down to it. I like Trivium much more. Just love their style and the riffs they do. esp. the harmonized leads and rhythms.

but what puts Trivium above others in my opinion is that Matt actually sings here and there, instead of making weird fucking noises out his ass like tons of other bands.
Bands like Bodom and Lamb of god are amazing and great but it's the instrumentals that save them

trivium are a good bunch of musicians, but not good artists. Theyre not doing anything new, these are all repeated formulas. If you look at a band like Mastodon, theyre doing something innovative and new. Metallica did experiment quite a bit with their sound too, compare Master of Puppets to Load or Reload. I know that metalhead purists hate Load and Reload, but they were solid hard-rock albums and Metallica showed the breadth of their skills as songwriters, well James and Lars did.

new isnt always good. putting iron tires on a car would be something new but would ultimatly be terrible. metallica ruined themselves after a while for to much experimenting. im not defending trivium i like select songs. but metal isnt about experimenting with new sounds new would also be playing out of tune. but it dosnt mean its good. its about expression and creativity. metal heads need to support each other not knock em, cause they dont care what we think they do it for money or thierself

Any respectable music critic out there will tell you that Mastodon is one of the most innovative and talented metal bands out there right now. On the other hand, they will also tell you that Trivium are nothing more than a generic metal band capitalizing on the triumphs of a bunch of bands who did amazing work 20 years before them. But I dont expect you to have the intelligence to get it.

PanchorDr J, innovation means deriving something new and not done before. You can look it up in the dictionary. The style of the riffs Trivium are playing as well as the very music theyre playing is not anything completely new. When Metallica did thrash 25 years ago, that was something new and not done before. What Trivium are doing now has already been done by tons of bands in the last 30 years. They might be decent at playing their instruments, but no way are they as innovative as mastodon

Every album is in different keys not just B. Insurrection and to callisto like a star in heaven are both in the key of E plyed on a 7string. Example, the album Ascendancy was recorded in drop D but the song Ascendancy is in F. Jack ass

I'm a veteran guitar player of 10 years, I graduated from Musicians Institute, and no Kirk Hamster and Kerry King solos suck, Kerry always sucked and Kirks been sucking since '99. And if you want to compare guitarists and say they suck because they play riffs instead of constantly soloing your going to lose.

Take Petrucci, and Malmsteen, 2 of the greatest guitar heroes ever.....they focus mainly on solos but they constantly play the samething. Yngwie can solo and throw out sweep arps all day but almost every song he plays is in A minor pentatonic, and Petrucci won't move past D minor pentatonic, and phrygian. My own instructer says they're trash now cuz they can't get past that point. So back off lil kid

RunMeThrough, Metallica did innovate and showed the breadth of their talents. Compare Load and Reload to Kill em All and Ride/Master. Bleeding me is one of their most innovative songs ever, the riffs in it and the general feel of the song is very experimental actually. Trivium are not doing anything new, theyre using formulas used by bands like metallica, slayer, dream theater, kreator, gojira and stuff, nothing new. Theyre good with their guitars, but not at crafting new music.

I personally think jimi hendrix was garbage and people call him a god. he never did anything special most of his music was lame. people only like him because he was a hippy in hippy days and people think that is retro and cool. i dont really think there is any guitarist that mesmorizez me. i like some but none inspire me to play their music. i think they played things other then penatonics. some bands played alot of penatonics and i like them. Not trying to brag. hendrix is just random garbage and the only reason people cant play it is because no one wants to spend enough time getting all the bends and crap to the note. he wasnt the first to do alot of anything. classical guitarist many many years before jimi hendrix could out play him backwards and foreward it was just never mainstream. so he kinda invented distortion but nothing other then that. i dont think he is a god

dude have you watched any live videos of bodom?? anything from the last 5+ years he butchers his solos all the time.. Hes amazing dont get me wrong but hes sloppy and lazy live now, b/c he knows hes a badass. Triviums problem is they play to damn fast live and end up also playing sloppy but for different reasons.

i agree dude, but sometimes when they speed up a song live, especially when it's a groove based song (ex. "gunshot to the head of trepidation"), it butchers it and i think that might compound the perceived "sloppiness"

I like both Trivium and Children of Bodom. Alexi, Matt and Corey are all awesome guitarists. But when it comes down to it. I like Trivium much more. Just love their style and the riffs they do. esp. the harmonized leads and rhythms.

You clearly haven't listened to the entire album man, these were all provided for free on myspace etc and these imo [apart from down from the sky] are the worst songs on the album [still brilliant songs though!] the better songs are torn between, insurrection and like Callisto!

i agree about scylla/charybdis and callisto. i disagree with throes of perdition. the weakest songs imo are calamity and he who spawned the furies, but they're still very solid.
