Not to be overlooked -- the resignation frees her from the bogus ethics complaints any time she gives a speech, goes to a fundraiser, etc.

The unethical jerks who are filing those have crippled the ability to speak as long as small minded people keep filing frivolous claims that cost money. They are also becoming liable for libel and slander suits once she leaves office.

So there may be a lot of other reasons behind this.

However, I think the family is the most likely reason.

Palin's potential draw is mostly related to the panic in the conservative movement, due to the lack of Republican leaders. Only time will tell if she will stage a political comeback, but my grain of salt in this matter is that it was a mistake. She will not command as much press as before, period.

Press is not what she needs - they repeat lies about here and do not raise funds for her so the press is unimportant to her at this point.

She is aiming squarely where her support has been; grass roots conservatives. She draws huge numbers and money from them, the kinds of people that are at the TEA parties. Rumore has it she may be aiming at putting more TEA Party candidates in the GOP primaries to thwart the GOP establishment.

She was absolutely right to handle this as she has. The media and attack dogs are costing her state millions. Which she fought every day as mayor and Governor. No reason to be the cause of wasted dollars defending her children against the frivolous attacks, her family against the attacks, or herself against media hyped, trumped up, friviolous 'ethics' complaints. I agree with this to a point. Palin is certainly more bad press than she deserves but she shouldn't have shirked her duties as governor of Alaska for her own political ambitions. She should have at least waited for her term in office to be completed.
