MOSCOW - Russia could aim nuclear weapons at Ukraine if the former Soviet republic joins NATO and accepts the deployment of anti-missile defenses on its territory, President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday.
Putin spoke at a news conference in Moscow after four hours of talks with Ukrainian President Yushchenko, who has said joining the Western alliance is a priority for his country.
That's weird about the missiles. Wasn't it just announced that Russia and Ukraine had reached some sort of agreement on gas pipelines? Wouldn't that mean that relations were at least improving and the tension lessening? Maybe I'm missing something here but it seems like they wouldn't want to threaten a new energy alliance by pointing missiles in their direction.
Why is the US and EU backing muslims?
