Master Xu is demonstrating a technique, not how it would be like in self defence or sparring. The application shown is but one of many possible applications. Bottom line it is a demonstration and not sparring instruction. True instruction cannot be gleamed from watching a demonstration, it can only be experienced by going to a class and studying from a teacher. There is nothing wrong with Master Xu's demonstration. What is wrong is newbies expecting a demonstration to be like a jackie chan movie
Not only is Master George Xu a great practitioner of the Chinese martial arts, but he is also an extremely generous teacher. Often times people will want to make these kind of videos with the different masters. Many of these people have not yet met their full potentials in the art, and don't always have a good sense as to what they are doing. This guy who is falling down a lot probably doesn't have regular access to a good teacher. Once or twice a year is just not enough.
The only time I see feeders like this in is bad 90's kick flicks...criminal #1 throws straight punch Hero knocks out criminal#1. I would like to see tai chi apps applied to a street fighter or boxer as I have found when randomly assaulted those were the most comon styles I and others I have spoken with incountered or the guy that tried to high school wrestle you into submition. thanx
I agree with you, far too many people stuck on doing demonstrations of technique/style applications like this. It does nothing at all to simulate a true attack from a hoodlum on the street. Attacker throwing a slow-motion kick or punch and then turning into a stone statue needs to be a thing of the past.
Simulated attacker needs to keep pushing his assault more than throwing one strike and moving at least "jumping-jacks" speed - not letting himself be casually off-balanced.
yes, quite an odd comment. As for the video, how fortunate we are to have such technology that one can watch a master of Chen Tai Chi actually demonstrate applications.
Who are retards tapthis? what an un-intelligent, ignorant thing to say. To many cartoons, mcdonalds value meals, bling bling and late night tv i think!
Thanks for the reply. Nice to see someone else with the same interests, but please don't use this channel as a flaming ground. It doesn't really fit to the idea of internal martial arts and doesn't pay George the respect he deserves. Just simply smile at such people and know for yourself that they don't know what you know :) .

Why does the kid hop away from George....the Kid is exaggerating his movements....for what purpose does he do it???

Sometimes, when thrown, it is better to keep hopping than dump over your own balance and let the ground hurt you.
