I have this kontakt instrument and it's a dog to use. The programming in the NI drums is much better. It sounds good but not worth the hassle to program it IMHO. It's badly in need of an update
@hateymchater Saving back is a bit of a pain but other than that there's some great programming in it. One thing that people sometimes overlook in the programming of Ocean Way Drums is that 6 different mixes were done per kit piece per kit actually AT Ocean Way by those engineers. It's a ton of work in a very expensive studio. Just a day in this studio with an engineer like that would cost most than the product does so it brings what would take weeks in a studio like that with great engineers.
@sonicreality its convoluted, complicated and your programming is lazy. There are many superior kontakt drum kits. I think you're just trying to get whatever milage you can from your inferior programming. I'm not trying to be mean about this. How about getting a decent KSP programmer and update this outdated product
@hateymchater Given the name you call yourself on here I don't expect "nice". A little harsh and inaccurate to call it lazy when it was a ton of work and a massive production to do in the first place. Keep in mind that the main part of a sample library for a sound company is the session and editing. The features of the software interface are the outer part and while there are some great examples of that since OWD with KSP, nothing else has the same sounds as OWD and visa versa.
@sonicreality Im sorry , i mean no disrespect to your programming department. Maybe they did work hard on this, but your competition is far in advance of this product. Considering the rather large cost of this product, you should consider taking a look at your rival products to this which work far easier and better. I agree the recording is great, but the programming is poor compared to its competitors. I am speaking from the user experience of this product which i can definitely say is bad
@hateymchater I'm a user of the product too and my experience has been amazing as have many others. I personally only need great mixable sounds playable from the keyboard and off I go. But, to each his own. The value of the product is that it is the sounds of Ocean Way by Sides and Miller. To reprogram it with new scripts we'd lose the original script mix presets which are also a huge value. These guys mix platinum albums and their time is not cheap. They won't redo it again.
@sonicreality To top it off it's not up to Sonic Reality it's up to them. It's their product we just helped them make it. We have done more advanced scripts for our other Kontakt-based drum products and they have their own unique sounds (famous drummers etc.). But keeping up with the latest Kontakt features is not easy. I'd love to get some new KSP programmers actually and I'm all for fancy features too. But we do more than just Kontakt.
@sonicreality It sounds great and when someone hears your music they don't know (or care) what you used or how fancy the programming was in the GUI of the product you used. But, in terms of user experience there is no argument that there are more advanced scripted Kontakt plug-ins since OWD. They just don't have the same sounds so it is a matter of preference. A trade off of latest Kontakt features vs. a specific sound that is unique to OWD. But I do get your point.
@sonicreality Right, so why not improve this product? Would it be really so expensive to get a KSP programmer in to jazz it up a bit? This is the best sounding kit i agree, and I like the imap template. You could even charge a bit for the update, then I can start using it again without getting depressed about how my sounds changed because i didnt remember to save it all correctly
@hateymchater First, it's not up to us. But it would be a major expense to do it AND preserve the valuable mix preset data. We've since changed our approach and do mix presets differently... and you can save back other SR Kontakt-based drum products easier. We actually DID apply our latest scripts to Ocean Way Drums SE which we carry but it's stereo kit pieces not discrete mics with their mixes... but it saves back easier. I know. It's a trade off. But worth it for the sound you get.
@sonicreality I withdraw my earlier comments about lazy programming. That was mean, I am just a bit frustrated with it. It's a shame that this product can't be improved to the level of the NI Kits for example. I'm willing to go to a bit of trouble for good sounds, I use hardware, just for me, I think it's too much trouble. I hope someone will see fit to rescue this product one day
@hateymchater Well you never know. Could happen. We are experimenting with new kits and seeing what can be done there. Sometimes that work migrates over to other products (like it did for OWD SE for example). As for something being too much trouble... miking up a drum kit is much more trouble! But worth it too. Again, I go by the sonic results I'm after first and convenience second. Both are still important though ideally. These things are always more complicated than anyone really knows.
@SuperStig23 This isn't really a drum "machine" but a drum software instrument. You make a good point but there are also other ways such as using loops (In fact we even have Steve Gadd's loops). A great drummer in a great studio with the top mics, engineering... it's not something everyone can afford so a product like this helps you have that sound in your music with total control over to you (and no attitude from the drummer!). But, I love using this AND working with great drummers.
@worm860625 Thanks. I think it's one of the best. There are so many good ones these days and each has their plus points. I think the important thing to recognize is that the CHARACTER of the sampled sounds are unique from one product to another. So if you want the specific characteristics of Ocean Way's Studio B with engineers like Allen Sides and Steven Miller with incredible mics and the rest... then this is the only thing that gets you exactly that.
did you have a video about Refill product for propellerhead, cause i didn't knew that a Refill version of this ocean way drum exist. i just saw that on Sonic Reality web site
Love the mixosaurus more, but this 1 is awesome too

ive got this and it's not that great. The sounds are good but the programming side is shit. Saving anything is a pain in the ass. Not worth the money

Ever wonder why they use these drum machines so much on records??
Cos' a great drummer is just too hard to find unless you are a famous artist
& can pay someone like Steve Gadd, Steve Jordan etc you are screwed, if the drums don't sound great the rest of the recording is worthless.
Next to a lead singer they area as rare as Hen's teeth.
