Pandit Bharat Vyas ji accepted the challenge of writing the whole song in absolute Hindi as the film subject was mythological and genuine success is the history.
This song remains one of the sweetest romantic duets and with most dignified chaste Hindi lyrics by Bharat Vyas and wonderful rendition by Lata and Manna Da. It can never lose the power of pleasing an aesthetically developed mind even after 100 years. Hats off to those great people!!!
Laxmi-Pyare worked as assistants to the genius comoser and producer from south Late Adinaryana Rao, husband of Anjali Devi, the legendary actress. Their first Hindi venture Swarna Sundar, released in 1960 was a super hit. All the songs, especially the raga malaika--Kuhu Kuhu Bole Koyaliya by Lata and Rafi, stunned the then legendary composers in 1959-60 because it was from a south Indian using pure Hindustani Ragaas. Sati Savitri also was their film for which Laxmi-Pyare composed the songs.
no doubt it is pure hindi and the words breathe life into the song!Bharat vyas ji was a great poet who enriched films rather than filmi dunia finding Vyasji!
i just cant get over the sheer majic of the words just shows how special people can transform language into a spectacularly effective weapon to pierce our hearts!
no doubt udru is a very delicate and flowery language but special people like Niraj ji and Bharat Vyas ji and Subhadra Kumari Chouhan, can and have woven magic
@sadhana1234561 I believe the correct words are Tum Pranay ke devta. Pranay means "Love" as you know. And the previous line has Dhool with a long 'U" sound. Thanks for writing the lyrics in Hindi.
@dkmkartha I would tend to disagree on the lyrics, taking into view the mood of the song Pralay seems to be more appropriate like Tum Mahasangeet Ka swar Main adhuri Saans Bhar, each lover holds the other in at a very high level while presenting himself/herself as amere nothing in comparision.
@debashish430 I went back and listened to a very clear recording and I am absolutely sure the word is Pranay, meaning love and not Pralay, which means the great deluge, a quite negative idea that does not fit into the context of love, or Pranay. But I respect your right to hold onto your own version.
Mesmerising composition.... a calm and soothing stream of a sweet melodic spring flowing across a heavenly lunarscape. Thanks for the upload KhurramDBG, the audio quality is exceptional.
The song touches right at depth of soul. I am proud that my country has produced such great singers, Musicians and lyrics writers. These people above all the ages and can not be measured on the time scale
@stereosop It is not your fault that you ended up over analysing the lyric to tag it as gender discrimination. It is the fault of your ability to understand the true love and devotion. Only if you listened to the entire song and also understood the words that are sung by Manna Dey, you would understand that it is far from what you think it is. People like you will never enjoy anything because they will always be busy finding faults
@stereosop you need to stop imposing your views on people and cut the unnecessary self-aggrandizement. You are no authority to comment on words written by great poets of the past. It is a lovely romantic song. You don't necessarily need to bring in feminism and gender discrimination. I'm sure Bharat Vyas would never have even imagined that people could ever give such an absurd angle to his lovely lyrics.
So just one piece of advice, if you can't appreciate something, Shut Up!!!
saraswatichandra had similar chaste hindi lyrics, remember "chandan sa badan". For sanity sake stop that pseudo femenist ranting about self deprecation.Listen to the closing lines when Manna da says"tum sudha main pyaas hoon".Learn to appreciate poetry for what it is and stop imputing fasionable motives to works of pure art.
What is pseudo feminist about it? How about one person self deprciating self? Words carry meaning even if they are used mindlessly they depict how subjects are created and how they are provided social location and meaning.
You don't have to teach me how to enjoy poetry. I have a degree in literature; riti kavya.
@stereosop In true love, both lovers feel, I believe, urges for both domination and submission in mutual ways. This does not have to be connected with the social realities of power, where women are oppressed and violated etc. which is horrible. Perhaps because of or in spite of real social relations of power, it is fun to playfully dominate the partner and the beauty of it is either partner can do it. If you dont believe me, read the 8th Sargam of Kumaara Sambhavam by Kaalidaasa.
What is so romantic about it. Self depreciating words put in the mouth of a woman by the male poet. As if woman is an object for the use the men. Tum gagan ke chandrama, mein dhara ki dhool hoon. Tum Shama mein bhool hoo... Catchy music and lyrics should have a better purpose to build positive gender images and relationships.
@bandukaka Can we not enjoy a good tune without agrreing with the contont of the song?
Didn't understand your question. Do youy mean arguing over the content of the song?
I said something meaningful about the meaning words carry. The other person accused me of being pseudo so I had to clarify my stand. Secondly, I am qualified to make the comments I made.
Enjoy what ever you want to enjoy, that is your right.

Divine love expressed by means of beautiful words and class music. But I am sure that female voice is not Lata but Suman Kalyanpur.
