What a inspiring rendition of this most inspirational tune! It belongs to EVERY American who themselves, or their ancestors came here to start a new life free of tyrany and struggled in their own way to keep America a beautiful, shining beacon to all the world.
This is the rendition that the World Renowned Rust College A'cappella choir does...& they kill it...& i'm not jus saying that cuz I'm an alumnus!!! lol I need 2 hear more altos though, TSU...
htis is a beautiful arrangment we sing it at my school huston-tillotson univ. its probalbly one of our best songs of our repetiore. good job it just needs to be more polished with attacks and releases and the balance needs work too.
OMG that ending note was horrible.. All i heard during the song was sopranos that was overkilling it at parts, a tenor that wasnt singing the correct notes throught the quartet part... i heared absolutley no altos..
this is how we sing it at my high school....but we do it acapella and people tend to clap before the God of our weary years party which throws us off...;but u guys sounded amazing. i love this arrangement probably b/c this is the way i learned it. 2 thumbs up!
this is an okay rendition. Props to the accompanist, but it could use some work espeacially after the choral. Beautiful voices but blending is off and I would have loved to hear much more feeling from the conductor throughout the piece. And there's nothing wrong with the arangement (blasianFMA). Maybe you should hear it with full orchestra as it was written for by Nathan Carter.
This choir is not well baanced....that could be because of the placement of the choir, I would sugest less Soprano so that the inner voices can be revealed so you can get sweet harmony. Just WAY to much outter voice.
I'm sorry, I did. I totally agree. I am just the accompanist. Roland Carter is my father and I'm sure he would agree with you and the rest of the critical comments. I agree!
This is the most beautiful arrangement of this song I have ever been blessed with the opportunity to sing. However, no one would know that listening to this choir butcher it. The end of this song usually brings people to tears... all i could do was laugh at the poor quality of the choir. The tenor soloist didnt know any of the chorale and the overall sound of the choir was just bad...
I mean for real...you film anybody's choir from the SIDE and see how balanced it will sound, even this super high choir you claim that you are apart of, and unless your high school choir is Overton High in Memphis, or Renaissance High School in Detroit (the top two high school choirs in the nation) your high choir couldn't sing it this well.
not bad....anybody knw the composer or this rendition....????? it so bad i use to sing this version back in high sch and i never took the time to knw the composer.
The ending note was terrible!!!! But I would blame that on the choir getting out of key on the minor 2 choir, did not keep the pitch that should have stayed consonant from the minor 2 in the 5 choir and just ruined the progression to one. Secondly, the last note was over attacked. I would have went to a subito piano and cresendoed to that pitch if that's what the director wanted. Landing on that note was not of good judgement. I would now give this choir a 1 out of 10.
I for one agree with you, that was a total butcher at the end especially, though the whole thing was doomed from the uncermonial start. Those sopranos need to learn how to sing and project, not to over sing and shout out key.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt this way, though I feel that these reviews should carry a little more tact, I noticed their lack of volume dynamics. Were they afraid that nobody would hear them?
Oh, and I've never liked this arrangement anyway. It's such a rip off of the Wilhousky's Battle Hymn Arrangement.
omg i thought they started off ok, but after the middle section "god of our weary years" which they sped up the tempo and when off key so many times, and even lost the harmony in a section, it sounded like there was only 2 tenor and 1 bass and 1 loud mouth soprano. Then they continue to speed up the tempo right to the end, where that same loud mouth soprano singing above the rest, through the entire choir off key, she was a bit flat on that last note and killed the whole thing....horrible !
If you have never sung this arr. then you should. Roland Carter is a great arranger, composer, and instructor. Every year he attends the Church Music Workshop at Jackson State University and I attend all the session that he teaches. You must one day meet him.
Roland Carter is a master. I love this arrangement. Of course, its dedicated to Hampton. But why is is taken so slowly? The quartet needs some work in tuning (especially the tenor).
(Anybody notice the resemblance to Wilhousky's Battle Hymn of the Republic?)
I love it my old high school choir did this version... I love all the movements and changes...Thank God for U-Tube... I can hear all that old stuff right here... yall betta take me back... LOL
We sung this at Paul Quinn College. The director at the time was Jowanda Jordan.

My only note: What's up with most of the choir not singing "The Choral" part? Other than that. great performance.

just wondering...is this the chorus arrangement of this song because I've been noticing the choirs (that aren't church affiliated) sing it this way.
