  • the only one who can do this song justice is the amazing Dolores Keane. such an expectional talent. pure and heart felt. amazing

  • ilove dis song buut dis version is much too slow for me. i play it on the guitar and no offence but i prefer dat version. der is more life to it. it is an amazing song. anyone who likes dis song should listen to these songs: hard times come again no more, the a team, christina perri songs, adele songs, broken strings. ENJOY!!! :) :) :) :)

  • AMAZING XXX

  • poignant. my 91-yr-old maman died on jan 14. a few weeks earlier shed heard this on radio n said "thats very nice" so i ordered it as a surprise. alas, reached greece too late. never mind, she's hearing it nice and clear now, my dad nodding along in time.

  • Not only is the song amazing the pictures just give it the finishing touch

  • Shite pictures not a bad version though.

  • Amazing! Thanks!

  • wow, i just listened to that crappy version of missy macdonald for a few seconds.. it's like stepping in a nice warm bath after you've been outside in the blistering cold rain for hours when i listen to this beauty.

  • heres a fact the first ppl to settle scotland were from ireland so ya were all the sames, dats why i love da scots and we also share a great hate for the english:)

  • Nobody can sing this song like Dolores!!!! She sings like she has lived and you need that for this song...Great song and well done to Dougie MacLean for writing and performing a masterpiece!!!

  • Lovely song and the video is spectacular...

  • only one T in being a scot & scotland/ has never been a celtic nation , you'll find a clue in this song title (caledonia) . our roots ly in the caledonian picts not the celts or anyone else .

  • Ach, you Celts - you'd fight over yere ain breath!

There's a lot of comments been deleted due to their anti-englishness. To the people who think the Celts were the only ones to suffer under "The English", Ordinary English folk got stuffed and continue to get stuffed by the English lairds and moneymen just the same as ordinary Scots. People would do well to recognise that the clearances and the Celtic diaspora were about the greed of powerful people and little to do with AntiScotsness.

  • All due respect to Dougie, but it feels like this song was written for Dolores to sing. Beautiful version, beautiful song,

  • Long live the celtic nations! Saor Alba

  • Dolores Keane..The best to come out of our little green isle

  • Galánta!!

  • Comment removed

  • Im a Scott myself and i love this song. and yes it was written about scotland. but scottish or irish were all of celtic origin. so lets not fight over whos on what side of the water and just enjoy the music that is a product of all our roots.

  • @missconniem

    Aye, you are so right.

  • One greart disappointment I hve with youtube is the amount of bitter, bigoted or racist comments. Here we have some of the world's loveliest music, in this case sung by an Irishwoman. Caledonia is, of course, Scotland. I was born a Scotsman and am now an Irish citizen and proud to be. That said, beauty is beauty, whether Irish, Scots or Mongolian. Can we not enjoy it without turning on each other?

  • @NormbrettaMod i have the right to freedom of speech, as you do.

i said not one insulting, or racist thing in my post, if you want to interpret my patriotism and love for the Country of my birth and the Country of my roots, Histrory and Heritage and the place i made my home for the past 7 years go right a head. but i suggest you removed the chip from your shoulder, Pro Scottishness or Irishness does not equal Anti Englishness, i was merely pointing out that we are different. We are.

  • keep politics out of it. Music should rise above such bullshit. None of us will be bringing our countries with us when we leave this earth...

  • @eamonreillydotcom

    Youre so right,

  • What a mad video - about 90% out of alignment with the songs content. And the Irish accent is wierd, thought the singing is fine.

  • what a tune!!!!!proud to be irish!!!:D

  • Indepenedence fae Scotland yee bampots!

  • Anyone know where you can get sheet music for this?

  • Reminds me of me and my boyfirend..Thru the good and the bad :) x

  • very gud song

  • I see a good many others are justly annoyed at this incorrect assignment of Dougie MacLean's song to someone else. The only video response is to Celtic Woman. But let's try to get the person who posted it to correct the statement. Caledonia is the Roman name for SCOTLAND. This is a love song to a place -- SCOTLAND -- as well as a personal lost love. SCOTLAND, GOT IT?

  • PARDON ME, BUT THIS IS A SONG COMPOSED BY THE GREAT SCOTS POET AND MUSICIAN DOUGLIE MACLEAN. AND IF YOU'RE RECOMMENDING VERSIONS, TRY HIS. AND CELTIC THUNDER ALSO.

  • @jadesceptre You can't be serious?!?! This is head and shoulders the best version and you know it. Dougie maclean is of course a good version but not comparable. frankie gavin's version is laughable. Paolo nutini an honourable try but too much heavy breathing and amy macdonald just too damn much heavy breathing.

  • @doire7 So doire7, you're one of those people who can't imagine that your tastes are not shared by the entire universe? "Matters of taste are not arguable." I recommended versions and unlike you, I WAS DEADLY SERIOUS. Get a life, dear one, and the sooner you figure out you are not the center of the universe, the easier YOU will breathe.

  • @jadesceptre You are the one with the attitude but just so you GET IT and just to annoy you even more, we irish produce wayyyyyyy more talent when it comes to music and singing. Having said all that still love the scotch with the exception of you of course. Byeeeeeee!!!!!!!

  • @ doire 7: So, why does it come as no surprise to me that I'm dealing with a nutcase? And, of course, the nuttier the more likely to confuse his own mental weakness with reality. GOT IT.

  • PARDON ME, BUT THIS IS A SONG COMPOSED BY THE GREAT SCOTS POET AND MUSICIAN DOUGLIE MACLEAN.

  • Get it right for God's sake people the song was composed by Scotland's Dougie McLean, for his homeland, Bonnie Scotland. Although anyone can sing a song? this one belongs to The Scots, but you can sing it too, just don't lay claim to it! Watch Dougie's version on U-Tube and imagine the loneliness he was feeling, away from his ain folk in a foreign land (Spain) that led to him writing this beautiful tune. Thanks.

The Ghost of Hank Williams Snr..

  • Caledonia is just Scotland and not any other Country so please do not get it confused as Caledonia is the ancient name for Scotland

  • Sorry but why put pictures of Ireland and England and not Scotland to this song which is a beautiful song about Scotland? Nice video but just wrong.

  • Failte Romhat Go Leir

  • I'm Irish. Love Scotland. Beautiful song.

  • THIS LOVELY VIDEO REMINDS ME OF THE TIME I VISITED BONNIE SCOTLAND AND STAYED IN EDINBOROUGH, THE HOME OF ALL THE POSH PICTS. OH, GOD, THERE WERE TWO FUNNY FELLAS DOWN THE WEE ROAD AND I ASKED THEM THEIR NAMES. ONE WAS BEN DOON AND THE OTHER WAS PHIL McCAVITY. AND THEY HAD ANOTHER FRIEND CALLED JESSIE!

  • With a population of just over 4.5 million...Ireland produces an insane amount of talent.

  • @fletcherarc Except that song was written my Dougie MacLean who is not Irish and does it better.

  • @1davidcampbell I was referring to Dolores and other singers from Ireland.

  • @fletcherarc There are plenty of good singers who could do a decent interpretation of someone else's song. As an Irish person I get quite bored reading bs comments about how good we are, we're not actually we just like to believe our own hubris, we're no better or worse than most other countries, probably a worse given most decent Irish artists had to make it abroad. The folk scene in Ireland is mummified compare to England or Scotland.

  • @fletcherarc thats the drink for ya

  • @fletcherarc Insane being the word.

  • @fletcherarc Sorry bud, but this is DOUGIE MACLEAN's song, and he's a Scot. And in fact this is the unofficial anthem of SCOTLAND. Dolores Keane's verssion is an OK COVER of Dougie MacLean's better version.

  • @fletcherarc Apparetnly we need to keep making the point; THE UNOFFICIAL ANTHEM OF SCOTLAND WAS WRITTEN BY A SCOT. Easy to follow.

  • @jadesceptre And HIS name is Dougie MacLean, not the singer of this cover.

  • This is your song Dolores .....no better

  • This is Dolores Keane.....anyone in Ireland who knows anything calls her "The Queen".....and as a man who worked with her I can assure you that she is.

  • dacent

  • Love this song! have you heard it sung by Celtic Thunder? Beautiful! Dolores is also very good. I have scots/Irish ancestry and feel like a misplaced Celt. One day to move across the pond! Hail the Celts!

  • i love this song with all my heart. it means so much too me it always reminds me off my home. it gives me another reason to say im scottish and proud. although im rather confused as to why this video contains images of england when it's a scottish song? anyway i reckon this should be the scottish national anthem if they ever change it. beautiful song by a beautiful voice about a beautiful country, scottish through and through!<3

  • A super voice and I love the video thank you for the privilege of this ...David

  • I like it

  • @MrArratoon kind of true and yes the aberdden thing is true but is also true for most of scotland the celtic welsh nations borders were near edinburgh but we were pushed back by a number of different invaders and the ones left behind became scotts, thought todays welsh and the welsh then were very different

  • @TheRaulip The P-Celtic speaking people of Scotland weren't pushed anywhere as such. The Picts in the north of Scotland and the Britons of the south of Scotland simply stopped speaking their traditional languages through time. They took to speaking Gaelic and Scots. Cultural change and change of ruling elites rather than depopulation.

  • This looks like a good example of very skilled musicians who should be famous playing very annoying music.

  • let me tell u that i love u and think about u all the time

  • I imagine that this rendition put a tear in Dougie's eye!!

  • I imagine that rendition put a tear in Dougie's eye!!

  • my favorite version >> proud to be Irish :)

  • thank for a awesome video i came for other country is spanish but never see before a place like this full of nature such a paradise

  • 3:42 basically the father ted theme tune :)

  • this is what i grew up listening to. is she the original singer??

  • @aoifeyP Dougie Maclean is the composer/singer.see his videos.Alone or with a small group(see the Butterstone studios version in HD.).

  • @aoifey ABSOLUTELY NOT. This song is the unofficial anthem of SCOTLAND and the singer / author is Dougie MacLean. Look up his wonderful recent version on YT for a real treat.

  • First time I've heard this version!

Excellent! Love the video description! Scenes of Ireland and England for a song about missing Scotland :) Superb! :)

  • For all you transvestites wearing kilts, and pretending to be straight, don't e-mail me anymore, and go back to Scotland, the dole money is more over there anyway!

  • @sherp2u1 As a Dutch I can tell you there's nothing transvestite about wearing kilts. Imo they're more man than a lot of pants wearing men.

  • RIP Michaela

  • This is a fantastic Irish version of a Scottish song. This version and the Brigton Rocker (Frankie Miller) two best versions by miles.

    AQuis separabit

  • @MrArratoon You are obviously very anti-anything thats not "anglo-saxon" so why on earth did you bother finding your way to this clip? Perhaps you should stick to watching and commenting on things that are more your cup of tea and stay away from videos like this which obviously upset your sensibilities.

  • Dolores Keane...looks like a man..talks like a man..sings like a man..haha i joke, she sings this song beautifully.

  • my gran loved you xx

  • The Scots and the Irish are worlds apart in my view, and i`ve spent many an hour with both. Love the Irish without exception, the Scots, especially those from Glasgow think they are rock solid, `till they come to Liverpool and meet some real hard men. See you Jimmy!!! and all that shit. What a joke.

  • It's true...and Irishwoman CAN make a Scotsman weep.

    Thank you, Dolores.

  • No one can top on this version!!!

  • Some of you are a little confused about Irish/Scottish history! The Scottish brutally colonized our Northern Counties with the help of their English cousins, so save the sentimental quips OK! Or better yet, look up Scottish racism, toward Irish Catholics, and then tell me, were basically the same! NOT!!

  • @sherp2u1 The Scoti lived in Ireland first and then colonised Scotland. The descendants of the Scoti colonised Ireland in turn generations later. If Ulster Unionists had any sense, they would want to rejoin their Scoti friends in the south. Pity they are all as thick as pig shit up there!

  • @OasisDublin Up there?WTF does that mean? Co Louth,Meath or what.So anyone above Co Cork is a northener? You Dublin crackhead.

  • @billyhunchback Last time I checked (and Lord knows I'm open to correction on this one) Louth and Meath were in the Irish body politic. The counties I was referencing when I said "up there" were clearly the counties of the so-called state of Northern Ireland (Derry, Antrim, Fermanagh, Tyrone, Down and Armagh). Looking forward to Sinn Féin taking over as the biggest party in the north next year and Martin McGuinness becoming the First Minister.

  • @OasisDublin Just right,I do apologise

  • @sherp2u1 dont confuse protestant border scots that moved to northern ireland, with highland catholic/gaelic scots, your fuckin twat

  • the best version by far... she,s got the right voice for this song

  • This woman has an AMAZING voice!! I love her!!!!

  • sung by an irish woman

  • cliffs of moher look stunning:)

  • @chimycham probably cos we can all relate to the song....just a guess mind you and our lands are filled with similiar beauty and strife.

  • Ireland & Scotland is one and the same, Celtic cousins, Stunning lands, Warm sincere welcoming people, Heritage, History, Passion, eccentricity, style, and above all this.. the ability to not take ourselves to seriously.... the English on the other hand............

Glasgow born and bred but feel at home in any county in ireland.

    Tiocfaidh ar la

  • @alphaoseven nice comment..I couldn't agree more!

  • @alphaoseven don't be anti-english. England is as stunning a country as either and there's lots of good english people too. There's hundreds of thousands of Irish living there by choice when they could come home to Ireland.

  • @alphaoseven Well said!

  • @alphaoseven Spot on! So true, Celtic Scots always welcome in Ireland. And really beautiful song!

  • @alphaoseven racist much?

  • @alphaoseven eyeyeyeyeyey dont go forgetting about us welsh! although we have been lacking in pride recently! not as proud as the scotts and the irish, but still! but im part irish and scottish so im proud to be all three!!

  • @alphaoseven

what right do you have to insult english people like this?

  • well why not pics from Ireland?Im from Ireland its a beautiful country!:)

  • ire and scottland basically have the same heritage

  • some tune

  • beautiful song....with beautiful sentiment.

  • great rendition

  • i love this song (im english) and the others r rite bout the pics..

  • It's been extensively covered by Irish artists. Ireland & Scotland share the Celtic heritage. I was just about to ask about the English pictures.

  • dont know...and scotland is a beautiful country :) surely there could be pics from scotland..

  • Think you'll find that this song was written by a Scotsman, Dougie Maclean.

  • great uload...thks

  • Nice, thanks for your creation =]

  • the best
