ENJOY!!! :) :) :) :)
poignant. my 91-yr-old maman died on jan 14. a few weeks earlier shed heard this on radio n said "thats very nice" so i ordered it as a surprise. alas, reached greece too late. never mind, she's hearing it nice and clear now, my dad nodding along in time.
wow, i just listened to that crappy version of missy macdonald for a few seconds.. it's like stepping in a nice warm bath after you've been outside in the blistering cold rain for hours when i listen to this beauty.
heres a fact the first ppl to settle scotland were from ireland so ya were all the sames, dats why i love da scots and we also share a great hate for the english:)
Nobody can sing this song like Dolores!!!! She sings like she has lived and you need that for this song...Great song and well done to Dougie MacLean for writing and performing a masterpiece!!!
only one T in being a scot & scotland/ has never been a celtic nation , you'll find a clue in this song title (caledonia) . our roots ly in the caledonian picts not the celts or anyone else .
Ach, you Celts - you'd fight over yere ain breath!
There's a lot of comments been deleted due to their anti-englishness. To the people who think the Celts were the only ones to suffer under "The English", Ordinary English folk got stuffed and continue to get stuffed by the English lairds and moneymen just the same as ordinary Scots. People would do well to recognise that the clearances and the Celtic diaspora were about the greed of powerful people and little to do with AntiScotsness.
Im a Scott myself and i love this song. and yes it was written about scotland. but scottish or irish were all of celtic origin. so lets not fight over whos on what side of the water and just enjoy the music that is a product of all our roots.
One greart disappointment I hve with youtube is the amount of bitter, bigoted or racist comments. Here we have some of the world's loveliest music, in this case sung by an Irishwoman. Caledonia is, of course, Scotland. I was born a Scotsman and am now an Irish citizen and proud to be. That said, beauty is beauty, whether Irish, Scots or Mongolian. Can we not enjoy it without turning on each other?
@NormbrettaMod i have the right to freedom of speech, as you do.
i said not one insulting, or racist thing in my post, if you want to interpret my patriotism and love for the Country of my birth and the Country of my roots, Histrory and Heritage and the place i made my home for the past 7 years go right a head. but i suggest you removed the chip from your shoulder, Pro Scottishness or Irishness does not equal Anti Englishness, i was merely pointing out that we are different. We are.
I see a good many others are justly annoyed at this incorrect assignment of Dougie MacLean's song to someone else. The only video response is to Celtic Woman. But let's try to get the person who posted it to correct the statement. Caledonia is the Roman name for SCOTLAND. This is a love song to a place -- SCOTLAND -- as well as a personal lost love. SCOTLAND, GOT IT?
PARDON ME, BUT THIS IS A SONG COMPOSED BY THE GREAT SCOTS POET AND MUSICIAN DOUGLIE MACLEAN. AND IF YOU'RE RECOMMENDING VERSIONS, TRY HIS. AND CELTIC THUNDER ALSO.
@jadesceptre You can't be serious?!?! This is head and shoulders the best version and you know it. Dougie maclean is of course a good version but not comparable. frankie gavin's version is laughable. Paolo nutini an honourable try but too much heavy breathing and amy macdonald just too damn much heavy breathing.
@doire7 So doire7, you're one of those people who can't imagine that your tastes are not shared by the entire universe? "Matters of taste are not arguable." I recommended versions and unlike you, I WAS DEADLY SERIOUS. Get a life, dear one, and the sooner you figure out you are not the center of the universe, the easier YOU will breathe.
@jadesceptre You are the one with the attitude but just so you GET IT and just to annoy you even more, we irish produce wayyyyyyy more talent when it comes to music and singing. Having said all that still love the scotch with the exception of you of course. Byeeeeeee!!!!!!!
@ doire 7: So, why does it come as no surprise to me that I'm dealing with a nutcase? And, of course, the nuttier the more likely to confuse his own mental weakness with reality. GOT IT.
Get it right for God's sake people the song was composed by Scotland's Dougie McLean, for his homeland, Bonnie Scotland. Although anyone can sing a song? this one belongs to The Scots, but you can sing it too, just don't lay claim to it! Watch Dougie's version on U-Tube and imagine the loneliness he was feeling, away from his ain folk in a foreign land (Spain) that led to him writing this beautiful tune. Thanks.

THIS LOVELY VIDEO REMINDS ME OF THE TIME I VISITED BONNIE SCOTLAND AND STAYED IN EDINBOROUGH, THE HOME OF ALL THE POSH PICTS. OH, GOD, THERE WERE TWO FUNNY FELLAS DOWN THE WEE ROAD AND I ASKED THEM THEIR NAMES. ONE WAS BEN DOON AND THE OTHER WAS PHIL McCAVITY. AND THEY HAD ANOTHER FRIEND CALLED JESSIE!
@fletcherarc There are plenty of good singers who could do a decent interpretation of someone else's song. As an Irish person I get quite bored reading bs comments about how good we are, we're not actually we just like to believe our own hubris, we're no better or worse than most other countries, probably a worse given most decent Irish artists had to make it abroad. The folk scene in Ireland is mummified compare to England or Scotland.
@fletcherarc Sorry bud, but this is DOUGIE MACLEAN's song, and he's a Scot. And in fact this is the unofficial anthem of SCOTLAND. Dolores Keane's verssion is an OK COVER of Dougie MacLean's better version.
This is Dolores Keane.....anyone in Ireland who knows anything calls her "The Queen".....and as a man who worked with her I can assure you that she is.
Love this song! have you heard it sung by Celtic Thunder? Beautiful! Dolores is also very good. I have scots/Irish ancestry and feel like a misplaced Celt. One day to move across the pond! Hail the Celts!
i love this song with all my heart. it means so much too me it always reminds me off my home. it gives me another reason to say im scottish and proud. although im rather confused as to why this video contains images of england when it's a scottish song? anyway i reckon this should be the scottish national anthem if they ever change it. beautiful song by a beautiful voice about a beautiful country, scottish through and through!<3
@MrArratoon kind of true and yes the aberdden thing is true but is also true for most of scotland the celtic welsh nations borders were near edinburgh but we were pushed back by a number of different invaders and the ones left behind became scotts, thought todays welsh and the welsh then were very different
@TheRaulip The P-Celtic speaking people of Scotland weren't pushed anywhere as such. The Picts in the north of Scotland and the Britons of the south of Scotland simply stopped speaking their traditional languages through time. They took to speaking Gaelic and Scots. Cultural change and change of ruling elites rather than depopulation.
@aoifey ABSOLUTELY NOT. This song is the unofficial anthem of SCOTLAND and the singer / author is Dougie MacLean. Look up his wonderful recent version on YT for a real treat.
For all you transvestites wearing kilts, and pretending to be straight, don't e-mail me anymore, and go back to Scotland, the dole money is more over there anyway!

Some of you are a little confused about Irish/Scottish history! The Scottish brutally colonized our Northern Counties with the help of their English cousins, so save the sentimental quips OK! Or better yet, look up Scottish racism, toward Irish Catholics, and then tell me, were basically the same! NOT!!
@sherp2u1 The Scoti lived in Ireland first and then colonised Scotland. The descendants of the Scoti colonised Ireland in turn generations later. If Ulster Unionists had any sense, they would want to rejoin their Scoti friends in the south. Pity they are all as thick as pig shit up there!
