Size of the woofer isn't as important as the specs of the subs you're looking at. A 10 inch sub with good exursion and a high power handling rating can easily out perform a 15 with low excursion and weak power handling. You should choose a sub on the type of bass you're looking for and then consider how much room you have for a proper enclosure to house the woofer.
@whophead007 well put.. I have three of the 10W6 and I know several with 2 15s that can't believe that three smaller subs can outperform both in sound clarity, and spl ratings Powered by a Phoenix Gold 600.2 TI zero point series..
@nzdrift777 4 gauge is fine and it would depend on the subs rms and the amps channels... if you have a two channel amp and the subs rms is about 500-600 its fine
This guy is an idiot. He's right...there's no replacement for displacement. But how many people know how to use Thiele Small specs in WinISD? How many people know how to tune their system so that subs or mids don't over-power each other? I can do just as much with 6.5" subs as you can with a 15" sub. Read a book please.
Yea I Personally Like bass Myself And When i get My Car im Gonna Want Everyone To Hear it but I want people to hear the lyrics Of the song also and hear Gods Words through the songs..
@Drewsky351 ok thanks alot looks so good on youtube lol ... just one last thing ...... do i need to worry about my car battery constantly running out or being damaged?
@jiminator14 Yes it will probably be a good idea to get one more battery and put it in the back. And buy a little volt meter and just put it in the dash, so you can get a digital readout of what your average voltage is. If your under 12.5 and you have allready put a extra battery in the back, then step it up to a High Output Alternater. You dont want to play your amps under 11.5 or over 15.5 volts. Your going to get the best performance out of your subs and amps if you can keep it around 14.4 v
They have 18s and even 22s. Personally 18s are better than 22s. But the only problem is when you get in to the 18s+ range, the subs start to get more and more power hungry. Watts = $
if it matters to the system,im geting a e46 bmw.i like loud music, im a teen. but i dont want a loud loud system that makes car doors shake & all that crap thats to much. i just like it louder then the factory speakers can do.i know absolutly nothing bout car speakers but i dont listen to much rap but still want good bass thats not to loud.but i need good quality but dont know a thing about them. help?? message me or something. thanks.
@Drewsky351 im looking to spend maybe 300 on speakers around that. because this is my first car and the bmw is gonna b 8 grand. so trying to spend least as possible. but dont wanna worry bout em blowing
@Drewsky351 hey im getting an audi a3 and i want a sub tht is very clearly heard outside the car, so if im going down the street people on the sidewalk can like feel it lol can you please tell me how much i would have to spend and what speakers, because im totally lost! thanks alot
iv been into car audio for a little over a year and i have had over 9 differeny systems. here is my point of view on
Kicker- loud but not acc. very durrable subs
Rockford-acc. but not as loud.
Crunch- ( personal favorite) loud and extreamly acc.
i have 2 15" crunch subs ( ones with the blue L.E.D's not their new crap), a 2000/1D poweracoustik amp, Audio pipe wiring and a kenwood headunit. this set up is just as loud as my buddies who has 15" rockford p3's and i spent a quarter of the price.
i gotta say if you want a great sub the jl audio w7 12" will pound. not sayin that it isnt pricey but if you want a great sub and dont mind spending the money the w7 will not disapoint you.
The first subs i ever considered buying were the kicker cvr12's but i noticed when i went to car shows all i ever saw was kicker kicker and more kicker, cause it's what everyone has. if you want a brand that most likely no other person will have go to your local audio dealer and or internet and research JBL...i got two p1222's last summer, which is my very first system. i did end up buying a kicker amp which was rated at 750 watts but on the power certificate it said that it tested out at 934
kicker is reliable for comps or cvrs get the 2010 models though because they improved so much over the 07 models if you need more help send me a message and ill be glad to help.
what would be the best brand to go with for a 12''? im looking to get one or two and i want some advice as to which brand to go with. (just for the record iv'e never had them, and i want to get some...) let me know what you would recomend. thanks.
I've only owned alpine so i recommend looking at others as well but Alpine is much clearer and less distortion then kicker for price but kicker is louder and more bass then alpine for price. If you go with alpine i've never had a problem with them but type r is the best don't get type x they're more expensive and worse then type r.
My job is to find the best deals on the interenet for car audio equipment. i actually visit almost every site and look for the weekly deals and the all time lows. i also review websites and tell you what to look out for. so if you want to find the best deals... i have already found them for you. w w w mydirectselect c o m
@MyDirectSelect Walmart is on your list, really? Ebay is my personal favorite but if you dont like buying from the internet, here are some tips that may help.
1) Learn about the materials subs are made of and judge the quality of them by your own knowledge.
2)Learn what each of the specs of the woofer actually mean so you can apply them.
3) Balance your system evenly. Match rms ratings( amps/subs ),gauge wire to power ratio( or youll cause a fire ) and fuse sizes( to protect from fire ).
@graffitiman54 Exactly! And just for the record, i know just as many old people with earth shattering bass as young people. it's funny how many people think that only "young punks" are into those kinds of systems.
i like all kinds of music...including HOUSE... it doesnt really matter what brand of subs you have as long as you have an EQ and tweek the subs... if you really want some kick (like i do) i recommend ROCKFORD... i have two RF P2's(12")...for a smoother bass hit maybe the JL audio w7... those hit very smooth. you also need a good amp which is another story =P
thank man, yea i really want the kick, not much as lie rap and hip hop that is continous kinda thing, but the kick , u know what i am talking about if u listen to huse and electronic music in general. do you have any idea of how much a good system would cost my with amps and everything like u said?, the dont have to me extreme , but good ones
with what i've heard you should stay away from Rockford, Alpine, Pioneer if you want well rounded speakers. There kinda like the Ford, Chrysler, and GMC of car audio, yah they make good stuff but nothing compares to a mercedes or BMW
lol who's the mercedes and beemer then? lol...i have all three and im very satisfied... ive owned xplods, kicker comps and crvs. adn they aren't as good as my Rfs...
I played with the subs in Best Buy, and kept them all on the same amp... Rockfords was shaking cd's off the racks, you could hear everything in the store move, the rest didn't do much... i'm getting two 12" P2 Rockfords with 2,000 watt amp.
Bwahaha, I can already picture 16 year olds setting their car on fire, electrocuting themselves and blowing their system hahaha
I'm 17, looking at getting a Speaker Cab for performing at gigs and home. Just need something that can handle low low sweeps or smooth booms during some parts of a song...
Sort of like a THX intro bass when you go watch something in IMAX lol
Other than that I'm more of an audiophile, can't stand cars rattling etc...
i was thinking about getting 2 12' rockford fosgate punch p3 subs with a rockford fosgate punch mono 1000 watt amp , good idea , & how would it sound , any opinions
you need an amp no matter what, unless you have some crazy over the top deck. thats because most headunits/deck/radio only reproduce about 100-200 watts and a subwoofer needs about 200 to be powered, abd keep on mind that decks are made for door speakers......there are self powered basooka tubes if you dont want an amp
subwooferz are subwoofers, speakers pick up high frequency, midrangerz pick up low and highs and subwooferz pick up that very low bass which makez it more entertainin i love subwooferz
are you havin a dig at me? i love subs! its my dad that hates em and all the adults i know, but good for you if ya dad likes em! i brought myself two subs and lovin them, and im lookin for a full component system, im all for top sound and full musical spectrum. so before you go layin into people like that just think a lil bit ;) cause im allll into great car audio mate.
i have a scion tc.. i want something that will just compliment the music in the car like u said.. im a teen but i dont want to much since the car is small.. will one 10 inch give me a good amount of bass?
well i guess you could use one ten inch but you would have to put it under the seat because if you put it in the trunk you wont hear it well, so under the back seat facing the front some how, a custom job i would assume, but yes, a 10 inch will compliment your car well, a 12 inch isnt a bad choice either but a 10 will be more crisp.
your right abou minimizing the lows on the reg. speakers, but what your missing is What KIND you should get.
Brand has ALOT to do with this stuff, and how well each piece collas with each other.
I got a 12 inch rockford phosgate, to a 850 watt Lightning Audio Amp with dual output brdged, and that pounds WAY better than my other system, a 12 inch 1,200 peak Pioneer sub with a 1000 watt Sony amp.
what about 12" subs? can they reach to ~20 Hz. The speck on my old 12W7 was that it could go to 16 Hz but the newer Alpine type R's only reach to ~23 Hz. Is the lowness of the frequency size dependent or is there something else going on? . Also I've noticed that smaller subs (and more of them 4x 8' sub vs 2x 12" subs) make a much tighter sounds for kicks. The larger subs do better at sustained notes though
an 8" and a 15" woofer can reproduce the same frequencies. except the 15 will be more prominent than the 8 since there is 3.5x more cone area.
just cause the company lists the "frequency response" of the woofer and says it can go down to 10hz, doesnt mean itll do that.
and smaller subs dont have more of a "kick" its a misconception and you should stop telling people that. its 95% in the box design how well your speakers will sound.
in 1820 a man named fredrick osloft one day he was working in his lab a ghost came by and killed him the next morning fredrick was nowhere to be seen 100 years later two boys went to the lab as a dare the boys were never seen again aparently murdered now that you have read this comment when you go to sleep fredrick and the boys will come and murder you but you can stop this by posting this comment on 5 other videos by midnight
my friend, if u are looking for a good sound then not always huge subs are the once to get. i would rather get a small sub which gives a clear sound instead of a huge subs which can only give quality when volume is at max.
and u r going to fit a sub in the trunk of a car not in a lorry ;)
ANY sub can sound clear at MAX.... Its all in the installer... You have to make sure theres no clipping. You have to set your gains correctly. and its not always the sub making the sound be distorted it can be your amp...

you need an amp no matter what, unless you have some crazy over the top deck. thats because most headunits/deck/radio only reproduce about 100-200 watts and a subwoofer needs about 200 to be powered, abd keep on mind that decks are made for door speakers......there are self powered basooka tubes if you dont want an amp

subwooferz are not a speaker
subwooferz are subwoofers, speakers pick up high frequency, midrangerz pick up low and highs and subwooferz pick up that very low bass which makez it more entertainin i love subwooferz

i have a scion tc.. i want something that will just compliment the music in the car like u said.. im a teen but i dont want to much since the car is small.. will one 10 inch give me a good amount of bass?
honorskid93 2 years ago
i got a 10 inch in a hatchback and its alright i wont say its brilliant it does the job but if you want good bass its better getting the 12 man
ezydoesit 2 years ago
well i guess you could use one ten inch but you would have to put it under the seat because if you put it in the trunk you wont hear it well, so under the back seat facing the front some how, a custom job i would assume, but yes, a 10 inch will compliment your car well, a 12 inch isnt a bad choice either but a 10 will be more crisp.

your right abou minimizing the lows on the reg. speakers, but what your missing is What KIND you should get.
Its a matter of combination for the most part.

lightning audio? you're quite the spender

some adults* lol i just got two and my dad hates em! but whatever floats ya boat.

What I took from this is that small subs make a little bass and large subs make big bass. I 'm glad I watched this... very helpful
quisp2112 2 years ago
not only that, but larger subs will have notes that go deeper, usually only high end 10"s can hit 20hz, while most stop at say 32hz.
dckmn52 2 years ago
what about 12" subs? can they reach to ~20 Hz. The larger subs do better at sustained notes though
quisp2112 2 years ago
Any sub can reproduce 1 hz. When you look at the "spec" you are looking at what the sub produce with a clean undistorted sound.
And to LJM2stepspain, you would want to face the sub toward the back of the vehical to get what is known as "base" reflection.
druail 2 years ago
an 8" and a 15" woofer can reproduce the same frequencies. except the 15 will be more prominent than the 8 since there is 3.5x more cone area.
just cause the company lists the "frequency response" of the woofer and says it can go down to 10hz, doesnt mean itll do that.
and smaller subs dont have more of a "kick" its a misconception and you should stop telling people that. its 95% in the box design how well your speakers will sound.

my friend, if u are looking for a good sound then not always huge subs are the once to get. i would rather get a small sub which gives a clear sound instead of a huge subs which can only give quality when volume is at max.
and u r going to fit a sub in the trunk of a car not in a lorry ;)
alexlex85 2 years ago
ANY sub can sound clear at MAX.... Its all in the installer... You have to make sure theres no clipping. You have to set your gains correctly. and its not always the sub making the sound be distorted it can be your amp...
